It's in no way redundant, or a platitude, but don't let the English language get in your way.
let me set you straight. pay attention, you might learn something
Redundancy would imply that the two words have the same meaning, or that one implies the meaning of the other, which isn't the case. A racial stereotype could hardly be seen as mundane, meaning that there are stereotypes that are not mundance, and hence a stereotype that IS mundane could certainly be described as such.
lets look at some definitions. courtesy of our friends at www.dictionary.com
stereotype: A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
Mundane: Common; ordinary; banal; unimaginative
Platitude: A trite or banal remark or statement, especially one expressed as if it were original or significant.
now in this context, the term stereotype is used in a perjorative sense. how is the use of mundane necessary. it's a double negative, in that mundane only has a negative sense. so it most certainly is a platitude, and in its use the precept mundane was most certainly redundant.
For it to be a platitude, it would have to be trite or meaningless, which it clearly isn't given that you didn't even understand the meaning of the statement. Did you just throw darts at a dictionary, trying to sound smart, and come off more like a failed internet hero?
awww you sound kinda stooopid now don't ya? no need to be antsy cause y'alls english homework didn't go so well.
