Patrick Rose - Port Melbourne 86

I played junior footy with Pat and there's bits of his game he's really worked on well and bits that still need polish.

He's a very smart small forward. Unfortunately he doesn't have the aerobic capacity to contribute in the midfield because he has some tools, such as his kick, that could make a good part time mid.

Deadly around goals, with strong balance andvery good footy IQ and foot skills. Can get a bit hungry, but you don't mind when they go through.

Just a little worried about his athletic gifts, but he's a very smart footy player.

Pick #92 Sydney – Darren Minchington – Dandenong Stingrays (181cm/76kg/1993)

Speculative selection for the Swans. Has plenty of ‘X – Factor’ explosive pace with good skills and knows where the goals are!

Just found his way onto the Stingrays list without completing a TAC preseason due to strong performances at senior level in the VCFL. The thing I like the most about Darren is his thirst for the contest, hits the packs hard, chases hard does the 1% all day.

Really wanted to get his name out there, most likely a rookie chance, but you never know. Is a December birthday so would likely be a 19 yr old selection for the stingrays next year if he doesn’t get picked up in the AFL

Probably wouldn't recommend for the Tigers.

Look at T.Taylor with homesickness. Have a feeling there will be similar concerns with Manson. So probably best of him making the grade is if he goes to a club with the resources to help him - WCE and Collingwood have been noted by some as potential destinations where he might fit. Think GWS with Kevin Sheedy as coach might also take a look at him since he likes his risky selections.

But at a struggling club without the strong leadership and culture eg. Port.A, I think he might really struggle at.

For Rich I'd look at a safer bet in the 2nd round - maybe an Ellis or similar.

Taylor didn't just leave because of homesickness though. He was a bad apple who didn't want to play VFL footy. Kid has been in juvenile detention which as far as i know Manson hasn't. I would argue our leadership has improved immensely and out of the young teams in the comp our boys are bonding together as a group very well.

We have that many high picks on our list that just need time to develop a bit more and if we take a quality mid with first pick like a Kavanagh/McKenzie then i'd be happy to take the punt.

We severely lack an x-factor type forward and would like us to look at Tipungwuti as well due to our game style of long kicking to our big forwards of Jack/Vickery.

I haven't seen anything hear on Alex Benbow from Dandenong. See him in the best alot and just don't see much on here about him, Got a few mates who play for the rays and think he is in the top 2-3 players behind Buntine and Elton but would be the best pure midfielder.

Dom Tyson's stocks seem to be rising can't see him lasting to 10 in the real thing

According to Emma Quayle
Dom Tyson's draft stocks just keep rising. Big chance now to go top 3 to GWS. Hard to see the Power passing.

Good stuff!

Go the woofer!!! :thumbsu:

I'm on the Woofta bandwagonn :D

The bandwagon is growing! I like it!

people here dont rate lachie neale??

height an issue?? ( 177cms)

i havent seen him personally so would like to know but found alot of ball at champs. racked up all the stuff you like to see tackles clearances inside 50's outside 50's. playing seniors for glenelg and finding a good amount of ball there too.

i havent seen him in this mock did you guys forget him or dont rate him or what??

I was in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago and managed to see his league game against Sturt. He was very impressive. Provided run and was good inside. I would be stunned if he wasn't drafted.

Kallen Geary - been going great guns in Qld. If I was a list manager he would definately be in my team as a rookie if nothing else. Tom Rockliff clone I reckon.

Sean Tapp - doing very nicely as a KPD for the NT Thunder who have been a powerhouse this year. May get a look in.

Dayne Zorko - he missed my mock last year after being in it the last two years. Big chance of him reappearing this year with their being quite a bit of talk that a few teams are looking at him very closely.

Good point Quigs. Three players I nearly took in the pre-selected were;

Tapp - Slot into CHB and still improving.

Zorko - He should definately be on a list. Seen 5-6 times this year and stellar in all games. HF / HB and mids

Quigley - tell me your views on Cam Illett and Ross T. I think Ross T will be on a list if he is happy to move away from Darwin. I would happily have Cam Illett at GWS

Ross would fit the Lions needs perfectly. Has that outside pace and finishing skills we desperately lack. Has been played higher up the ground this year but still managed to significantly impact the scoreboard, I think this has really helped his development. Perhaps staying in the same league (NEAFL) would help with the home sickness issues?

Cam Illett has been super since the introduction of the NEAFL. One of those players who is just far above this level. Is a really strong presence around the contest but also has the ability to use the ball well when on the outside of the game. Pace and age an issue?

Not so much a dark horse, but Albert Proud's last month or so has been the most dominant of any player in the comp. What has impressed me the most is his penetration by foot. His ability in close and around the stoppages has always been first class but he always seemed to struggle with his kicking at AFL level. It's hard to believe how much it has improved. There are obviously other issues involved when considering drafting Proud but from all reports he has pulled his head in and is having a real crack at trying to get on a list again. Quite a few AFL scouts were very impressed by him and Zorko in the state game vs WA.

Just my thoughts.

I will add a few things:

The only problem I have with Ilet is that he will be 27 come the beginning of next year. He is definitely in his comfort zone with the Thunder and I think he probably only really suits a contender given his age. I think he could definitely play at AFL level at a reasonable level although he probably would be found out a bit for pace. Does he want to start again at the bottom though and play in Melb?

For Tungatalum it also comes down to desire. He will be 22 next year and should have a pretty good idea by this stage whether he wants to move away and have a crack at the big time. He is not the skinny young guy he was at the Saints any more but he has some talent if he is willing to commit. For him it is purely down to desire to play AFL. I agree with TLL though that the Lions might be the best spot for him. Better weather and he fits a definite need for the Lions. He would also get to see his Thunder mates pretty regularly when they are in town for the NEAFL matches.

Just my thoughts.

Agree with your opinions.I have been in QLD for 9 years now and watched the improvement of this league develop, which has gone ahead in droves over the past 2 seasons.Im originally from Albury and played in the strong Ovens and Murray league for some 15 years before retiring in 1993.I love my footy as they say, hence my extreme interest in this league now.as a spectator obviously.
If there is one guy that should be given a crack at the elite level, its Dayne Zorko at the Broadbeach club.Just 21, with 3 b@f awards and proberly a 4th come this years count. The guy is a dynamo, a little small in todays physique needs for afl, but just needs a club to give him a chance.
After seeing the Lions and Suns Reserves sides( that play in this league,) give some of their players games at the elite level,( and Im talking at least 10 guys at the Lions and 15 players at the Suns )I am astonished that their are other players in the league that are not been sighted and drafted, for there are a number that are better footballers then what these 2 afl clubs have on their current playing list.Anyway, thats how it is these days.Recruitment is all about youth, fair enough, but there are plenty of mature age recruits( as they call it) out their that could make the cut.EG, just look at the Podisairy at Geelong.
Anyway, I agree that Tapp is up there to make the elite level, and Proud is of the same. His class is undeniable and deserves another go at afl.
Two outstanding 17 year olds are Boston (Broadbeach) and Ives (apsley),
would have to be both drafted, one would think.
As of Cam Illet, a very good player, but as a onballer is it to late at 27.Maybe not, for he is class, but would a afl club take the gamble.
As for Ross Tangulam, has got silky skills, but I dont think hes got enough to crack the big time. But then again who knows.

I notice that only two ruckmen were taken. With Michael Gardiner retiring, Ben McEvoy would be the only genuine ruckman on the Saints list, so I imagine they would be looking for one or two, maybe one a rookie. Apart from Longer and Bolger, who would be the next best out there?

The league is certainly getting better each year. Proud's display on the weekend against the Suns was imo the best example of why he should be on a AFL list.

Don't worry, Boston and Ives are well and truly on the radar next year. Are too young this year.

He will play AFL at some stage. Went out to Glenelg the other week and he ripped it up.

Curious as to how the KPF's rate in this draft and how deep they go. North need to add a genuine key forward to the mix so if anyone could identify those that may be around at and worthy of either of picks 18 and36 that'd be great.

Reckon Julian Dobosz is the stand out genuine forward in the draft. Would have been the most prolific goal kicker in the tall forwards going around this season.

Damn good question! Not so sure the answer is there.
[1] Zac May (Bendigo) 203 cm of him and he is pretty mobile. However, he is as thin as they come and would need considerable time.
[2] Leif Cope (Eastern) even taller and was in Vic metro last year. Still hasn't appeared to have improved a lot, but he has the natural athleticism to make a go of it.
[3] Jack Beech (Sandringham) 200 cm of Vic Metro squad member. Must be chance.
[4] Chris Prowse (Oakleigh) 203 cm of Vic metro squad member. Still pretty thin, but gets some good taps.
[5] Jay Lever (Geelong) 200 cm of Vic Country squad member. Has some potential and good be a rookie selection.
[6] Cam Symonds (East Freo) 201 cm and a much larger body than most. Uses his strength and won't take as long as some of the others.
[7] Brodie Grundy (Sturt) looks damn good, but won't be draftable until next year. Seriously, he took on and beat guys with height, strength and age advantages. Only Longer looked better of the guys I've seen in this cohort.
[8] Jarrod Witts (Sydney Uni - Collingwood) 207 cm and a cert to be with Collingwood next season, as he is on their NSW list. Showed a fair bit at the Vhamps.
