Big Signing for GC

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

There are 26 Crows players in total who are out of contract. Below are the names of the players that I know of that are uncontracted at seasons end.
Nathan Bock
Chris Knights
Scott Thompson
Patrick Dangerfield
Jonathan Griffin
Trent Hentchel
Brett Burton
Andrew Mcleod
Michael Doughty

Scott Thompson and Nathan Bock have been strongly linked to Gold Coast most of this season.

BTW Dangerfield is looking to buy a house here in SA. So touch wood he stays.

The AFL have the mongrels all the kids , so as far as Im concerned every club should have 15 names that the GC can not touch. I have waited decades for our time and then these guys turn up...

That's how they do it with the NBA expansion drafts (8 "untouchable" players per roster), and I'm pretty sure they did the same when Fremantle entered the league too. Clubs had to offer a couple of players up to Brisbane when they came in as well. Personally, I think the extensive draft concessions are enough of an advantage, because Brisbane, Adelaide, Freo and Port Adelaide never got such concessions when they began. It shouldn't just be open slather on every uncontracted player.

How exactly do people find out who is and isn't out of contract? Just through media reports?

Hardly a massive name but their are some rumours floating around on some Essendon forums that Sam Lonergan has signed with the Gold Coast.

I think that if we do lose a player to the Gold Coast not too many Essendon supporters would be too upset if it was Sammy.

If I was the bombers then I would be stoked as they then couldn't take anyone else.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Collingwood (A) vs Gold Coast (H). Would put a full house straight off the bat and look great in the media. Follow that up with Gold Coast down here with another big 4, then Brisbane vs GC up there. Once the novelty wears off and the press is finished jizzing over massive GC crowds they'll play freo, port and north.
By the time we get to Port we'll be a game clear on top. Too easy.

StKilda's Gilbert was mentioned on radio tonight , is he a "Big Name" , who knows.Really starting to sound like Its the Gold Coast Bears.
Armitage is coming up for a look too. They'll be here during schoolies week.

Anyone else think GC are fabricating some of these 'signings' so as to persuade other players to also sign?

As i understand, no player is allowed to sign during the current season, or even be approached by GC, which leaves a few months in last off season in which the GC could orchestrate the signings. I am suspicious of 'new' announcements. although the AFL would definitely look the other way...

But i think GC are saying they have signed plenty of quality players, so more players would think "hey, if others are doing it then i might as well too." Safety in numbers.

Just a theory.

According to Malcolm Blight, it's the media themselves that are fabricating the signings.

They can't sign anyone yet. so unless its a leak of someone they have already signed during that moratorium window earlier in the year it's nothing new.

Bock, Thompson from the Crows etc could not have signed unless they did so in January and now its gotten out. Which I doubt, otherwise they have to wait until October.

Any other defenders out of contract from the Crows next year???

Just asking..........

Brown is not going anywhere. This year his attitude, application and disregard for his personal safety has been a standout showing his love for the Brown and Gold.

Hawks will give him the 2/3 years he wants in his next contract.

Probably nothing,

But I was told from a player on the Gold Coast list tonight, that GAblett has already signed on.

Take it with a grain of salt I guess, but would be spewing for Geelong if true.

But an investigation by the Gold Coast Bulletin, which dug into every AFL club, indicates why there is still a lot of confidence coming out of the fledgling club.

Here are the top players uncontracted for next season:

* Adelaide: Ben Rutten, Nathan Bock, Scott Thompson
* Brisbane Lions: Jared Brennan, Michael Rischitelli
* Collingwood: Alan Didak, Sharrod Wellingham
* Fremantle: Matthew Pavlich, David Mundy
* Hawthorn: Campbell Brown, Jordan Lewis
* Melbourne: Ricky Petterd
* North Melbourne: Daniel Wells
* Port Adelaide: Travis Boak, Stephen Salopek, Kane Cornes
* St Kilda: Justin Koschitzke, Nick Dal Santo, David Armitage
* Western Bulldogs: Ryan Griffen, Jarrod Harbrow

The GCFC can take one uncontracted player from each club at season's end.

Without a shadow of a doubt this is the case.

No AFL player will admit anything during the season.

There will be nothing but assumption presumption and rumors until after the season and then there will be plenty of real GC news

Wasnt there a loop hole at the beggining of the year which meant that GC could in fact sign players that were playing at other clubs in the 2010 season? If this is the case would not suprise me in the slightest if it were true that they had signed some big names or at least good named players.
