The bigger problem for me is no matter how much Poch, the players and some supporters deny it, the fact is this Wembley thing is now not going to go away. The whole media and other supporters will be on it, which will bring unneeded pressure. Even if we win a couple of games comfortably, as soon as points are dropped it will be brought up again. Only ourselves to blame for the performances there last season though.

That equaliser today was probably more damaging than the Chelsea one. Doubly so because we are now going into an international break stewing on it
It's definitely a thing but it's something that is easier to fix than actually struggling to play there is what I'm saying. All it will take to create that belief there is 1 or 2 results. We see out the Chelsea game 1-1 and that would have been enough to see out today's game 1-0. Or if we see out today's game 1-0 we play even better next time there against Swansea. Instead we've failed both times and are now needing the our 3rd game there to be the 1 where we finally get it right instead of being the 2nd or 3rd time we get it right.

It was always bound to create some sort of anxiety for the team this season and is why I think many fans don't think we can challenge for the title this season. But it's just about how long it takes to get things right. Perfect world it would have been 1 game in and who knows what we could have done, but that was very unlikely especially with that opponent. I had faith in them getting it right 2nd time around but they've failed that test.

But when you peel it all back all it takes today is one small moment in the game to change slightly and we get our first win there. Kane, Alli or Eriksen make better use of good chances at 1-0 we seal it 2-0. There was 4 or 5 good chances to not even let the anxiety get to the levels it did to concede that goal. So it's not like we are terrible and not looking like winning. And even at 1-0 with 90 mins on the clock it should have been enough but some terrible defending by Trippier gifts them a golden chance which they take. Kane's August issue has hurt us more than we think as he tends to be the big moment guy for us who takes that chance to ease the tension for the rest of the side, yet there he was as anxious as everyone else.

In both games at Wembley so far we seem to completely lose our shape. Everyone drops back and we have no presence in the midfield and can't keep hold of the ball. We should have just kept the ball the last 10 minutes instead of just belting it up field and letting Burnley have attack after attack. I'm not sure if it's Poch's tactics either; I suspect that tiredness has a lot to do with it. The pitch is a lot bigger and with our pressing we're naturally goign to be a lot more fatigued, both physically and mentally, towards the end of the game.

Mentally we shat ourselves this time around.

Poch can only do so much really once the team is picked. He made 1 slight error picking Dier in a 4231 to start with but even then all that did was make it easier to make the tactical switch to 3421 which was needed when they went 442. He needed to bring on Winks earlier and it should have been the sub for Son imo. In saying that Sissoko was actually our best player when he was on the pitch so can't really fault Poch for that sub.

Who've we got next? I know the next home game is Swansea. We really need to attack that game and not play Dier or Wanyama in midfield.

Lloris
Sanchez Toby JV
Aurier Winks/Eriksen Dembele Davies
Son/Eriksen Dele
Kane

Well, he's Yoda_'s boy then ;)

Seems we have someone on the inside in British immigration then with these work permits going through quickly
EU grandparents for Foyth isn't it?

Poch has turned down Lucas Moura. FFS Poch he is 600x better than GKN and offers the exact same style of play! How can he say he won't improve our squad. Bring him in and sell GKN = upgrading.

I do like that the board turned down Di Maria. He'd be awful to get.

Linked with Celtic's Dembele again. Really hope we right our wrongs there and bring him and flog off Janssen

Except that they contacted us offering the two players. They need to sell for FFP reasons
I don't believe that link.
Just like I don't believe the link to Andre Gomes and don't believe Ballaque when he says we're battling Chelsea for Llorente and have tabled more money.

There's already open dialogue between PSG and Spurs and they have a real need to find probably 40-50m in sales in the next day so I think they would have sounded out our interest in players they are looking to ship off. Both Lucas & ADM are no real loss to them with Neymar, Draxler, Mbappe etc. so I can see why it's them 2 the press have gone with. Whether that's true or not who knows but I definitely think we've been offered an attacking PSG player or two to help balance their books

Don't mind the Fernando Llorente signing

Even though he may not fit our current recruitment model of long term players, he is a known commodity in the PL and other top leagues around the world.

The most intriguing deadline day gossip is that of Vincent Jansen. Poch publicly backed in his Belgian striker recently, the competition (with the addition of Llorente) is only going to be benefit the squad.

The Fernando Llorente signing on paper is exactly what I've wanted for a couple of years now, a veteran striker coming off the bench. Janssen on loan to another PL club is also a good move to help him adapt.

The only thing that made me think twice was it sounded like Swansea were potentially bringing in Bony for the same amount Spurs offered for Llorente, I'd almost roll the dice on Bony.

Llorente is a good option for me too, but I'm not sure if Bony has the desire to improve himself considering the amount of football he hasn't played since his City move, his loan at Stoke was horrible too.

Probably the best team & squad in my lifetime. Let's hope those last two deals go thru

I'd love to then squeeze through Barkley on the cheap but he won't be able to pass a medical.

No point he's out for a few months. Hopefully we get him in Jan.

What's your reckoning on Gomes? Who would you compare him to?
