Good ball playing defender that will suit Pochettino's style. Not sure who will go out of Chiriches or Dawson (maybe both) but I'd expect Dier to be 3rd or 4th choice this season. Wouldn't be against both being sold if Pochettino has seen enough in young Veljkovic to make him one of the 4 CBs we use this season

On the subject of promising young, english centre-halves, Nottingham Forest's Jamaal Lascelles is another young centre-half on our radar. Nothing concrete yet but he just followed the official Spurs Twitter Page despite being a life-long Arsenal fan so take that for what it is.

Should it go through, we're going to have a titanium defence for the future with Dier & Lascelles holding the joint together. I'm liking our transfer business so far; just need to get Schneiderlin done somehow, Musacchio & it's a perfect window.

Perfect window would have included the signing of Lukaku. Doubt Chelsea ever would have sold him to us though. Rodriguez or someone similar who is a LW who can score goals and play as a striker is our big need, maybe Remy? Capoue is showing quite a bit this pre-season so perhaps a CM isn't needed

Musacchio all but a done deal for £17m. Best Centre-Half in La Liga last season & will probably be the preferred partner for Vertonghen throughout the season.

Musacchio, Vertonghen, Dier, Kaboul, Veljokvic great CB depth there!! The young two Dier and Veljkovic both can play CM/DM also great versatility and all 5 great on the ball. Signals the end of Chiriches, not all that fussed if we sign Musacchio and keep JV

Musacchio deal held up by stupid third party ownership problems, but that looks like it will be settled soon.

Schneiderlin looking less & less likely to come as the Southampton Chairman continues to insist he won't be sold this window. His odds of joining us are still 1.17 though so hopefully we can manage something; then again, David Villa last year was an even shorter price & he went elsewhere.

Depay would be a good signing. Gets compared to Townsend on a lot of the Spurs Forums; while he's not as fast as Townsend, he's a far better dribbler & shooter and would be a big upgrade. He's also right-footed, so he can cut inside from the left whilst also providing some pace. I still don't mind Chadli in that role, but he was very average for the most part last season & isn't very dynamic, which is what Pochettino wants. Great long-shot on him though.

Rodriguez seems all but off, at least until January. Don't see any point in going for him anyway while he's injured.

Depay or Rodriguez coming in would have to spell the end for one of Chadli, Lennon or Townsend. I think it will be in that order who we are trying to ship off. The guys who would float across that 3 behind the striker would be Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby, Townsend, Lennon, Chadli and 1 of the 2 signings. That would make it 7 players for 3 positions which is probably too much. That being said Chadli and Holtby can also fill-in in the deeper roles where we are even more stockpiled at the minute

Update from a reliable ITK, Trix:

----------------------------------------------------
Well here goes. Had another great day and I actually managed to get a couple of lines in the water myself today, now the boys are starting to get a bit of experience. 6 of us in total today including my mate, an agent, an ex player turned NT physio, and a guy who works for a very large international agency(the fixer), where he looks after the players on their books based in the Midlands and in the South. As such this is a contrasting set of info and is NOT as well placed on some other ITK that I may well be going against, looking briefly at what has been posted by others in the last 24 hours.

Firstly Konoplyanka

Not shown any interest at all since a very small enquirey in January. There has been very little interest in him at all and I don't want to give too much away but he is not very highly thought of off the field by very many at all. His attitude and workrate are poor and from what I can gather any potential interest died with Poch's appointment. I'd say this one has next to no chance of coming off.

Depay

None of them thought there was an actual link at all for this guy, but I must admit none of them could say for sure we weren't interested. The reason I posted "No" in my previous update was more to do with the next couple of bits though, regarding other players than it is actually about Depay.

Firstly J-Rod...

Is very happy to stay at Southampton.........because his rehab is going exceptionally well. He still very much wants to come but realises things are difficult atm and also understands he needs to be fully fit to have any chance to play in our side as it is far more competitive than Saints. He has no intention of signing the contract that has been on the table for weeks and will more than likely join in January if things don't happen this window(again due to his injury neither party is in any real rush to push this through)

Secondly

Poch is happy with Nacer. was always the intention that he would be the rotation option for J-Rod/new LWF. Very very doubtful he will go from what I was told, and if I was a betting man I'd actually be expecting him to play more often than not.

Thirdly

The price of Depay. Now no numbers were mentioned but i got the impression the price would be very high. The reasoning was that the bigger clubs in Holland have decided(mutually) that their league is as good as the league in say Portugal and yet thir stars seem to be valued at a fraction of the price. Expect them to hold out for more in the future.

Schneiderlin

Is proper naffed off. refusing to do anything that doesn't benifit himself. He is training but only to make sure he is fit. Not taking part in team exercises and his agent is there all the time instructing him on what he can and can't do. They all seemed to think he would have to get a move and that Krueger would end up backtracking bit by bit very soon. It was Apprently KL that said he could go and not Krueger, and at the end of the day she signs the cheques. As one of them said, she probably doesn't even know what position he plays".

Mateo

The "fixer" works for a huge agency with many players from South America on their books. I asked him about the Mateo situation and how difficult it actually was to do a deal like this. He said all third party deals are tricky but this was not a particularly bad one as legally it was all in order. According to him some of them are such a mess of legalities that their are teams of international lawyers working on them to get all the details in order before the governing bodies will even look at the possibility of the moves being allowed. It is not always just an agent or club involved either and their have been occasions that involve some fairly immoral and even sinister business men, and it makes some deals almost impossible to the EPL in particular. He thought this one was very much above board though and being as all parties wanted the move it would very likely happen.

Verts

Was told again his contract was done almost a week ago. No idea why it hasn't been anounced though, but it seems the club (not just ours) are very much playing the media game now and are waiting to announce things in order to produce the biggest possible impact in media circles.

I'm sure there will be a little more as I remember it, but that was basically it as far as Spurs were concerned.
----------------------------------------------------

Only an ITK, but he's infinitely more reliable than the usual tabloids like Sky.

Hi guys, with the season not too far away, the mods would like to start up a new thread for previewing each team's season ahead and we'd love to get your thoughts/answers on the questions below.

Instead of one poster doing a post for their club (and the subsequent scrolling through threads to find a specific preview), we are going to try and keep '1 post per club' (so if we get multiple responses for the same club, we will include them together in the same post) - similar to the format used here:

link to thread: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/club-season-previews-14-15-season.1072350/

Questions: (feel free to answer as many/as few as you like).
  • How have you rated your team's preseason performances so far?
  • How have you rated your team's transfer business so far?
  • Which of your new players (if any) are you most excited by and why?
  • What fixture is your most highly anticipated this coming season and why?
  • Who do you think will be your most important player this season and central to your chances of success?
  • Who do you see as the biggest surprise packet player at your club (big improvers, hot young talent from the academy)?
  • What are your minimum expectations for the season ahead and how do you rate your chances? (final league position range, cup focuses, silverware chances? etc)
  • How safe do you think your manager's position is and what would it take for him to come under scrutiny/get the sack?
  • Best XI when squad fully available.

We're finalizing a move for young Seattle Right-Back DeAndre Yedlin for £2.75m. I didn't watch the US much in the World Cup, but he apparently impressed, which is why we're bringing him here as a backup to Walker.

If videos are anything to go by, he looks like a great dribbler, very agile & fits into a quit tempo game-style.

Was very impressed with Dier.

Rose also moved ahead of Davies with the type of performance we know he's capable of - just doesn't produce consistently.
Can we have Rose and Walker in the side considering their more attacking players than defenders? Especially with the likes of Lamela, Ericksen and Townsend on the pitch.

If they defend properly, absolutely. Walker, I thought defended much better last campaign - and his pace is such that even when he makes a mistake he can usually recover. Rose definitely needs to concentrate defensively if he's going to take the nest step. Having said that I thought he was BOG in the first half against Schalke. Him and Holtby.

Dier has been a brilliant piece of business.

I dont think we've even spoken to Depay, just media speculation and we wont be signing JRod this window, maybe January when he is fit. Yedlin is being loaned back to Seattle till January.

We have shown some interest in Martial although probably not as much as the media would make out, we're just testing the water. Will be the best business we do over this TW if we can pull this one off. The kid could be anything.

Biggest problem we have is making way for these newbies as no one wants to leave.

Questions: (feel free to answer as many/as few as you like).
  • How have you rated your team's preseason performances so far? Not bad. Can only beat what is put in front of you and Schalke was the only real test. Good to see Soldado-Lamela-Eriksen-Lennon linking well
  • How have you rated your team's transfer business so far? Good. Identified targets in areas we desperately needed and got them quick. Pochettino wants to trim the squad but doesn't want to cast aside players just on the 13/14 season, guys like Capoue and Holtby in particular.
  • Which of your new players (if any) are you most excited by and why? Eric Dier. Ball playing CB who Pochettino's style will suit. By all reports he is a right footed Vertonghen type, not super quick or strong but reads the game well and can easily play as a full back or an anchor.
  • What fixture is your most highly anticipated this coming season and why? Obvious choice is always the NLD but I'm going with the Liverpool game 3 weeks in at home. Will be a great test of where the two sides are at and if we can get onto a good start to the season it'll be a better season than most think.
  • Who do you think will be your most important player this season and central to your chances of success? Eriksen and Lloris. They are truly world class players, everyone knows it with Lloris but if Eriksen produces what he did in the 2nd half of last season for a full season he will be right up there in the leagues top mids. He was injured & played out of position in a poor side last season and still finished with 7 goals and 8 assists.
  • Who do you see as the biggest surprise packet player at your club (big improvers, hot young talent from the academy)? Ryan Mason showed a little in pre-season but the midfield is quite cluttered so I'm going to go with Harry Kane. Got into the side late last season and scored a few goals. Pochettino likes a big strong CF and he is probably the strongest/tallest of our 3 forwards.
  • What are your minimum expectations for the season ahead and how do you rate your chances? (final league position range, cup focuses, silverware chances? etc) Top 6 in the league. Don't care too much which of the two but would love a long domestic cup run. Stronger focus than normal in Europa
  • How safe do you think your manager's position is and what would it take for him to come under scrutiny/get the sack? Should be 100% safe but he does work for Levy so that's never an option.
  • Best XI when squad fully available.
    Lloris -
Walker - Vertonghen - Dier/Musacchio (if he signs) - Davies
    Capoue - Holtby/Dembele
    Lamela - Eriksen - Townsend
    Adebayor

Update from ITK, Grey Fox. Says we've agreed personal terms with both Musacchio & Schneiderlin, it's a matter of whether the clubs give in:

Grey Fox said:
MM and MS personal terms have been agreed and it is down to the clubs to agree the fees i.e. a case of who blinks first. On MS I have information from my normal source and a friend who has strong links with all South Coast teams and both think it will get done. My friend has heard whispers that MS's agent is threatening to take Southampton to Arbitration for restriction of trade.

As for outs, as mentioned in other threads we have 11 on the books who we would listen to offers for, but it does not mean all 11 would be sold.

Nothing will happen until the last couple of days of the window, our squad is too big, needs more outgoings before incomings.

Yeah 2 of Carroll, Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro or Capoue need to go before we sign Schniederlin
Carroll loan and Sandro sold I reckon, Sandro has been great when fit but he's had 4 years at the club and hasn't pretty much played a full season since 2011-12 where he was largely a squad rotation player. Would prefer 1 of Kaboul or Dawson to be sold and Lennon to stay well away from that RW position as he gives us bugger all production year in year out.

What's been happening, anything?

Would love for us to get off to a good start tomorrow, 3 losses last year to the hammers so would love to get 1 back on em.

Anyway I better get back to the main board as the shit being flung at my club is just too funny.

Looking forward to tomorrow night. Hopefully a good season to come!
