Handy replacement for Craig McRae with Pick #68, especially given he's only 20. Who else should I have selected ahead of him O wise one?

It's not because of his ability, it's because he is a little squib who wanted to play with his brother. His attitude throughout the season was very poor. Didn't put in the effort in the VFL games, and then said that his decision to leave the club was because he didn't get enough opportunities. Good riddance.

And to one of WC's representatives, why did you take two strikingly similar players with your first two picks?

Because they were the best available, and also probably the 2 hardest players in the draft. Dunn is a quickish on-baller/flanker. Waters is a slower archer-type defender. Johnson was a steal at 26.

Fair enough. I was close to selecting Waters at 19 but since I had already taken McLean, another strong-bodied tough nut, decided to opt for Moody.

And I'm pretty happy with Spencer at 27. :D

Fair enough, you're trying to replace retiring/delisted players, but personally I would have taken Matthew Spencer well ahead of Spaanderman.

I considered Spencer as well. I took Spaanderman mainly because he appears to be more physically developed than Spencer and may be able to slot into the side as early as 2005, when Lynch definitely retires. Spencer probably not.

He'll fit very nicely in the forward pocket for us regardless, squib or not. As I said handy pick-up at #68 with our last pick.

If you can fix up his attitude, then good on you.

Cats picked up Raph Clarke, Jay Nash, and Brad Symes. We used a pick on Jordon but in real life we will pass on that pick. All midfielders but the were simply the best available

We took Clarke today coz we got thrown a bit by Ess and the WB but I've become increasingly confident that Keplar Bradley will become a Cat on Saturday. Thus we will have our tall.

At 22 Jay Nash is exactly what we need. A quick, onballer who has absolutely sensational skills. I reckon its out of him and Dyson on Saturday. If Ricky gets past 13 I reckon he'll make it to 22. If not Nash is more than adequate. We need one of these two.

Brad Symes was a bargain and too good to pass over. The H/S had him as a top 20 pick. Arguably the 2nd best midfielder in SA. Would be over the moon with him at 42.

The talk is that we're keen on Trotter at #13, so you might yet get Dyson at #22, although it'll be tough to see him getting past Brisbane.

Just as a matter of interest here's what the AFL website phantom draft came up with.

18. Brisbane Lions – Llane Spaanderman
(East Perth) 10 February 1986, 198.3cm, 99.6kg

Big, strong forward who is set to be a late first to second round draftee, due to his marking strength, his sheer bulk and his ability to kick goals. Spaanderman, who possesses good pace for his size, represented Western Australian in the National AFL under 18 championships in 2003. He has attracted strong interest in recent times from the Lions and Fremantle and although he is unlikely to be taken with the Fremantle’s No.10 or No.12 picks, he is right in the mix for the Dockers’ third selection at No.19. But the Lions will be looking to groom another forward for the future – when triple premiership forward Alastair Lynch retires – which has Spaanderman right in the mix. If the Lions want him, they will probably have to take him at No.18, with Fremantle eyeing him off at No.19 or No.27. He is a fascinating pick who has risen up the ranks in recent times.

Guess we'll see on Sunday.

I can understand that the Lions' priority going into the draft would be key positional players, but to be honest, I can't see Spaanderman going in the first round. I think late second or third round seems far more likely.

Will be very interesting to see where he ends up.

As Sydney in this draft i was very happy because i got David Mundy at pick 16, David Trotter at pick 29 (he will almost certainly go higher in the real draft), Brent Stanton at pick 45 (again, will go higher) and a local in Nick Potter at pick 47.
I would have liked Kyle Archibald also but i left a spot open for the PSD.

I'm sure Sydney would be happy if they got these 4 in real life.

He ended up exactly where I said he would.

Llane Spaanderman... first round pick for the Brisbane Lions at No. 18.
