I think as far as natural un AFL pushed rivalries go you have to say the Power/Crows or Eagles/Docker comes close. But for me I'm gonna say not much comes close to the tension of watching Hawthorn and Essendon go toe to toe

Carlton and Collingwood

Then probably Ess-Carl, Coll-Ess and WC-Frem not necessarily in order.

I'd have Port-Crows and Rich-Carl on the next level down.

Dont let the shitfights on the bay fool you. The showdown isn't near the biggest.

Fitzroy and Collingwood.
Melbourne and Collingwood.

The word "rivalry" has friendly competitive connotations.

North and Essendon despise each other. Pure hatred.

People that understand your clubs history do, kids wouldn't. You might not be aware of the histories between the clubs prior to 2001.

Essendon kids actually believe that Essendon and Collingwood have a rivalry.

Homestate teams. West Coast Fremantle, or Port and Adelaide.

Love watching Essendon and Hawthorn and also Collingwood and Richmond.

adelaide and port is pretty intense but lacks history. in terms of biggest, then carl vs coll.

That's not entirely true. Port dominated the SANFL for 126 years before getting the license to play in the AFL. We were completely hated. Imagine if Collingwood had won flag after flag over the past 50 years. That's how hated we were.

The Crows were basically an amalgamation of people from all the other clubs. That hate carried over big time. Not to mention the 1990 issue with the Crows being created to keep Port out of the AFL and all the ill feeling that came with that.

Port and the Crows have by far the most intense rivalry. You guys are intense in yout hatred in the week you are playing your big rivals, we are intense in our hatred all year round.

Can't believe West Coast v Essendon doesn't even rate a mention. The JACKET WAVING PHENOMENON PEOPLE!!!!

Paul Salmon made me cry at the G' TWICE in the early nineties.

Sheedy's 'finger across the throat' gesture

Hird's goal and then hug of some random bloke in the crowd

Peter Matera's 7 goals at the G'

The game at the Dome in 07' when Juddy first got injured and we went down by a point.

Essendon and West Coast Fans back me up on this. Surely it rates a mention.

The Sydney vs West Coast rivalry was quite entertaining for a while.

Hawthorn and Essendon. Not a clash of two big clubs like Carlton and Collingwood, but the clubs both genuinely hate each other.

Hawthorn and Geelong is also huge. Both sides hate each other and the matches are unbelievable. We play them twice next year, I think Rounds 5 and 12, and they will both be like a final.

LOL wtf... are you saying Carlton and Collingwood don't hate each other...

Until the line in the sand game... the only game that generated any type of melees were the Carlton and Collingwood game and the Freo and West Coast game from when they started going nuts on policing it...

Carlton v Collingwood tick every single box that classifies a true rivalry (except last years encounters)...

Sydney v St Kilda in lieu of a Fremantle v North Melbourne option.

I'll never forget that Saints v Swans clash a few years ago that ended in a draw. It may have been 4 goals each. What a game!

Nothing better than watching these massive clubs face off.

I may have to call 'name a game' to buy me a copy so that I can enjoy it again.
