Movie Biggest Drop-Off in Quality between a movie and its sequel

I respectfully disagree about the matrix sequels, but I know I'm in the minority on this one so I won't bother arguing about it.

One's that come to mind for me are Ironman 2 (Ironman 3 wasn't bad though), and all the Jaws sequels. All the Spiderman sequels (the one Frodo was in) sucked. Batman over it's various incarnations had some bad sequels. The Police Academy sequels were horrendous.

The sequel to once were warriors was quiet a let down at the time, but any thing after the first one was never going to live up to it.
Watched this for the first time in years and it was better than I remembered, obviously nowhere near Once Were Warriors as a film but still one worthwhile making imo.

The Police Academy movies are still watchable, but yes they drop in quality after the first one.

The blue oyster bar scenes make me chuckle and this is my favourite line:

PROCTORRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!

Which Superman 2? The Richard Donner version is way better, even unfnished, imho.

Superman 4 is even worse.

Was about to post the same thing. They should have never fired Richard Donner halfway through Superman 2. Superman 2 could have been so much better with Donner and when Richard Lester was given a full movie to direct, Superman 3 was what we got.

Didn't the Richard Donner version of S2 have a repeat of the ending of S1, where Supes flies backwards around the Earth, reversing time? That was dumb in the first, it would have been excruciating in the second.

Yes but mind you the Richard Donner cut was something done 2 decades after the movie was released. The whole time reversal was meant to be only for Superman 2 until some intervention caused it to be included into Superman 1. Had Richard Donner actually been able to complete Superman 2 during the time it was actually being made, it wouldn't have the same time reversal storyline. Had Richard Donner finished the product, we might have had a better film or at least avoided the disastrous Superman 3.

^ The reversing time sequence was intended for Superman 2 only, the first Superman was meant to conclude with him throwing the missile that causes Zod & co to escape from the phantom zone. Movie executives got scared and wanted a different ending in case the reception was bad and the story didn't continue into Superman 2.

That's from some information i read years ago and probably inaccurate.

Pretty much any horror series...

The Evil Dead would almost be the only exception.

Surprised that Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo has gone without mention.

I have talked about these in the relevant threads about them in the past, but here we go again - i used to think Die Hard 2 was the worst movie - in the 90's as a trilogy i actually rated it as 3,1,2. In the early 2000's i changed it from 1,3,2. However i actually do not think Die Hard 2 is a bad film, Die Hard 4 and Die Hard 5 are horrendous films though.

I'm pretty sure it's an offence in some countries to rate them in any way other than 1,3,2,(everything thereafter).

If they'd made a second Highlander movie, that would undoubtedly have sucked. But they didn't, so all's good.
They did and it was terrible. Highlander 2 - The Quickening. To make matter worse they made Highlander 3 as well.
Son of the Mask - making sequals more than a few years after the original never works (refer Blues Brothers 2000)
Sister Act 2 & 3 - the original wasn't great but the sequals were just painful.
Bill & Ted's Bogus journey - completely bogus
The Pink Panther 2
Miss Congeniality 2
Under Seige 2
Superman III & IV - whilst 3 was bad 4 was downright terrible.
Police Academy 3-8 - Whilst 3 definitely signalled the end of the laughs for this series, Police Acadamey 4 should of killed it, someone should've been shot for allowing them to make 5, 6, 7 & 8

All time worst though - SPEED 2
come on what where they thinking when they agreed to the script? The wholes in this are so big the cruise ship itself could sail through without worrying about touching the sides. Because the original was so good it will be hard to see this ever being matched for the biggest drop off.
