Not jealousy. Happy to admit I hate their filthy guts.Oh. Jealousy driven then.
I must admit though, I have wondered as to how Martins' tank seemed to have grown substantially.
I remembered a guy that would just give up on a chase prematurely and now he's running all day. Fine Cotton maybe?![]()
Yeh but they still managed to turn over the majority of there list and staying up while doing so. The talent is coming from somewhere and they haven't needed high end picks to find it.I again disagree.
To "rebuild" infers their lists were in a bad way.
They actually had very strong lists - all they did was keep topping them up.
More like repainting a very nice house versus making good a "renovators delight"!!!!!
Circumstances could not be more different.
The first season SOS came on we literally had enough cap space to take salary cap dumps. We also had the majority of the list coming out of contract in the next couple of years. Those salary cap problems ended in SOS's first offseason. There are so many holes in this argument I'm not sure where to start.
We couldn't really afford a big name player because we had so many overpaid hacks on our list I.e. Paying full TPP while on the bottom of the ladder.
Bell, Yarran, Henderson, Tuohy all left because our team was crap - so who were all these "good best 22 players" that were going to come to the same crap team that other players were leaving?
Tigers will sign FA Lynch because Reiwoldt etc are prepared to be paid "unders" - every time we overpay one player it stops us getting quality in somewhere else on the list.
So to to "overpay" recruits would take us all the way back to the very first point I made - we would have a mediocre team while paying full TPP - and no serious chance of winning a flag.
I'm satisfied with the strategy the club is following.
I completely agree it is "high risk" but IMHO we had no alternative if are serious about not wanting to be stuck in "no mans land" (6-12th on the ladder) but instead actually win a flag.
Better to have a red hot go than die wondering what might have been.

That man "Blake Catacella" is a big reason why they are so good.
And we have the worst small forwards in the league. Whilst I wouldn't go for Rankine with pick one, I would be going hard for Sydney Stack in the 20s...so hard I'm thinking of starting a campaign.. "Stacks on Sydney Stack"...it will resonate through the old halls of Princes Park as SOS stays up late scribbling notes, deciding whether he was will draft a development tall or a small forward with pick 27. He will notice the air goes cold and heavy, before hearing:From the coach's survey...
In other highlights of the survey, the coaches said:
- Stacking a forward line with smaller players was the most important tactical innovation of the past three years
It's great that this happened right after we traded/drafted a bunch of key defenders and key forwards! From the coach's survey...

I said almost exactly what you said last time this conversation came up. We should be setting our own trend instead of playing catchup 3 years after the fact. By the time we get to that level the game will have moved and we're behind again. The fact we've stacked up with talls may not suit the current trend, but may have been planned for a later time.
Trends change, lots of things change.
2 years ago ruck-men were dinosaurs and now we have Gawn as the most important player in the competition with Grundy not too far away.
You can't be playing catch-up. You have to get a jump on the comp.
Maybe we'll win out and maybe we'll lose out. Let's not worry about the now so much. Let's see whether our game plays out first.
Expect GWS to move him on and get something in return while they can. Pick one off the table unless we get a top ten coming back. Shiel to us is in play mark my words. Priority pick may do it.I was listening to the "road to the draft" podcast featuring the gws list manager. When the discussion come to the topic of dylan sheil and his future beyond this year, found it interesting when the opportunity to knock any speculation on the head it wasn't. may mean nothing none the less found it interesting.
Pick 19 for Shiel you say.Expect GWS to move him on and get something in return while they can. Pick one off the table unless we get a top ten coming back. Shiel to us is in play mark my words. Priority pick may do it.

Why wouldn't they get a compensation pick next year?Expect GWS to move him on and get something in return while they can. Pick one off the table unless we get a top ten coming back. Shiel to us is in play mark my words. Priority pick may do it.

Did you guys really choke though?
As an outsider i thought that you should of at least played off in another final bt the Lions were a huge side. Or is that the point, that you kept getting beat in the qualifying final?
Lots of clubs have had a great list yet only won 1 flag or none at all.
And big players don’t get any smaller as game goes onI said almost exactly what you said last time this conversation came up. We should be setting our own trend instead of playing catchup 3 years after the fact. By the time we get to that level the game will have moved and we're behind again.
The game has trends but something that always seems to come back around is key forwards.
Are you in Sydney yet?Expect GWS to move him on and get something in return while they can. Pick one off the table unless we get a top ten coming back. Shiel to us is in play mark my words. Priority pick may do it.

Plane taxiing. Will keep you all updated. Are you in Sydney yet?
Now that's an interesting thought...
That being said, they've Wright whose relatively developed, do they have/need a bigger body to protect anyone, do they even need another tall structurally? Who do they have developing that the inclusion of Casboult would assist? I don't quite see it, but I'm not particularly interested in GC's list really.
If he were rated at all by other clubs, whenever his contract has expired over the past few years someone would've taken him up on it over our offer.
Plane taxiing. Will keep you all updated.
Hard to argue with this. Pickett spends most games like he's waiting for a bus. LeBois will never get on the park long enough to play a senior game. Lamb's a mediocrity. Jack's missing physical presence. And we have the worst small forwards in the league.
