Bruest is a very very good small forward.

Indeed he is - has kicked 40+ goals in each of the past 5 seasons.

I just don't necessarily believe he'd be able to replicate that in our forward line.

He is 184, so hardly a midget and doesnt play like a Eddie Betts, Jeff Garlett type small forward.

Bruest has had the defender left over after teams have tried to match up on gunston, rioli, roughead, (sicily demanded attention at points this year) and McEvoy. At Carlton he'd get far more attention and far worse delivery... My bet is he'd kick less than 35 goals... probably around the 30 mark.

I would almost guarantee opposition clubs put more time into manning Breust than they do Gunston, and certainly Sicily and McEvoy.

Spot on astute assessment, and thus is our major problem and I'm absolutely certain our current team situation would deter plenty of prospective talent from joining the Baggers.
We need to start building stock of silky talent via the draft or by very attractive lucrative offers to proven and talented Free Agents, these are our only avenues.
It’s not easy, hope Bolton & Silvagni get it right the next three years drafting trading are crucial.

You certainly can't guarantee something like bruest having more time put into him than gunston. Not even an almost guarantee.

Agree - can't underestimate how much better a player looks in a good team.

Our midfield is already lacking depth and you want to trade arguable our best one, who is also our captain and senior player.

Do you realise how bare our midfield would be? You only need to look at what happened this year.

We need Murphy and Gibbs to show the young new mids the ropes and take the pressure off them.

I wouldnt be shopping him around but if a club came up to us with a very good offer for murphy say a mid to late first rounder . We would be negligent in our duty to not seriously consider it and in fact accept that offer imo . Hes 29 years old shortly , that pick could be used in a number of potential deals to bring a quality midfielder to the club eg - mitchell or hit the draft even harder for a quality young mid .

I think if we did somehow get Breust he would demand the football and instruct the midfield how to kick it to him. Don't forget he would have Bolts onside to assist in this department.

This image sums up where we are at and why Breust would be a great acquisition.. I am not saying i want to trade Murphy and i dont think he will be.. Just putting up a scenario where it might work given that the Hawks will need to work with GCS to get JOM.

It's interesting! After Fev won in 7 seasons in a row, we have now had 6 individual 'winners' in a row - Walker, Betts (noting he had won before Walker), Garlett, Waite, Everitt, Wright.... and all in a declining trend (broadly).

That is untrue. You are also a legend.

Would have hurt to not get this guy. Defence now sorted for 10 years. If JGM comes on, will give us the flexibility of playing weits as 3rd tall (which he is most suited) or up forward.
