I think you are right about them being desperate for pick 5, it will be used to get pick 1 from the drug cheats.
I do not want to give it up but could handle it if it involved the players you mentioned and we got back pick 15. There has been talk that Steele was touring Ikon Park today so maybe he is not off to the Saints afterall.

Definitely a dream scenario, but if GWS are certain they can nab pick 1 by on trading 5 and 7 to Essendon..who knows!

I'd be shocked if that was their end game.

So what, they are trading pick 7, Marchbank, Stewart, pick 15 and possibly someone else like Pickett/Steele for pick 1???

I know they have a stupid amount of assets so they could probably afford to, but that is overkill even for pick 1.

I'm not sure if it is the way I am reading it but In relation to barass07 rumour, are we trading our first and players to GWS or are we trading our first for GWS players?

It's our 1st for GWS players (and maybe/hopefully a late 1st back our way).
GWS don't want players, they are trying to cut their list to fit all their picks in.

Listening to Terry Wallace on trade radio, he believes next year's draft has a lot more top end talent. So more stand out players in the top 10. Where as the top 30 in this year's draft is quite even.

If we're going to give up a top 10 pick, I know which draft I'd rather it be in...

As I mentioned earlier, if we get 2-3 first round picks this year, and can get the midfield depth we need from GWS players/Hrovat etc. we've done very well.

Keep 2017 pick 5 or whatever it may be, and go to the draft and get a standout player.

Let's say it is 5 - one pick - for 15 or 16 and Marchbank, Steele & Stewart/McKenna, which seems to be around the mark based on all recent info/news/rumours... that valued 3 x players at Pick 25 - roughly equal to what we payed for Plow and co, which we can now agree is a great deal.

Am I a little nervous about the Boek/7 trade re-living itself here? Sure. But it's a completely different set of players; completely different draft class whereby the depth in the first round is huge. Would be quite happy with someone like Florent, Battle, Clarke or PP if we think they'll end up a great player.

We'd need to be getting Steele or another bigger name to be giving up Pick 5 though... it may value them at 25, but by all reports the top five in this draft are special.

Still dont get how people can say these things...

Talking up pick 5 like it's 100% going to land us an elite superstar, while deriding someone like Marchbank, who was pick 6 only 2 years ago, as a 'list filler' or 'average player'.

People still seem offended about the Jaksch/Whiley/Pick 19 trade without taking into account we have SOS and Bolts now in charge...and that SOS was the one who was with GWS at the time and contributed to us getting swindled...but now he's on our team.

They have to reduce their list and salary cap this year and then they'll be in line with everyone else.

Nows the time to do it to make up for our crappy drafting and barely getting any elite young talent into the club for 10 years.

Last year most people wouldn't have liked the Menzel for Kerridge and 2nd rounder trade but by the end of the 2 weeks everyone was praising SOS' efforts for what it turned into

I log onto bigfooty this morning and what I read makes me sick.

First, a multi sourced Rumour that Gibbs will be going to Adelaide along with our second pick for Lyons and pick #13. The prospect almost made me throw up. That is the SINGLE WORST TRADE we could possibly do. Here's why
1. Bryce Gibbs is contracted, and as much as some people on here detract from him, he's a bloody good player and a CARLTON player. He's also contracted for a further 3 years and in our top three players. We should hold ALL THE CARDS
2. Jamie Lyons. Talk about a limited player. This kid has hit his ceiling and its not high. A player who scrapes into the midfield of a team with a pretty poor midfield at that. He isnt going to improve any more and where he is at isnt that flash. Yeah he's decent. And would get a run in our side. But we're overpaying for him.
3. Pick #13 for #24. F*ck that sideways. In a very even draft this is a piss poor trade. The top #7 of this draft are quality. The next fifteen you can throw a blanket over. We'll be getting basically the same quality player at #13 as we will #24. And if its about some bullshit to send to GWS then it's even worse. MARCHBANK IS WORTH #24, THATS IT, CALL IT, NO MORE.

That is what I heard also, a few times now.
I am not of the view a stand out is there at 5 for us. So makes sense to trade it as long as we get good things back.
