McGovern is going to cost us a first round pick, he is contracted for 2 or 3 more years. He has played less games then Charlie Curnow and he is 2 years older. He has had 2 injury interrupted years. Crows aren’t going to trade their only young forward for a second round pick. When they asked for two first for Jake Lever who was out of contract.
My point was we are going to have to pay overs for a player I don’t think will improve our list greatly, when our main priority should be midfielders.
Our 1st next year with change coming back to us this year will work

What would Kelly cost, what did Treloar cost? Works both ways but unfortunately it's more a midfielders game these days. Whichever way you can't beat top end talent and you need to pay for it
I agree, but who will get the biggest contract this trade period? a KPF Lynch will be a monstrous deal. I dont disagree that its more a mid fielders game, hence the reason KP is worth more- mids are a dime a dozen

Would bringing in Mcgovern, Walsh, 2 other top 30 mids in this draft, Dahlhous, shane Nelson a couple of Tom Wilson/Jesse Palmer/mason Blakey/sam fisher types and Fasolo really be poor list management?

Followed by Shiel as a FA and Kelly or Cerra next year?

Ill honestly be shocked if you say yes

Getting names like McGovern Dahlhaus Fasolo Nelson Miles Brodie plus Walsh, McHenry, Valente and BSOS would be a very good off season for us.

I have no doubt SOS will do some things we haven't considered and will have some picks come back late to us. Then there is live trading

Just a question.IF we do get MMcgovern what position will he play?

Teague has a lot of input into this acquisition IMO. He has been giving input this year about what " type" is missing from our forward line, in order to maximise the effectiveness of The Royals. The real effectiveness of the adelaide forward line has been that the other players -other than the big/tall 3 , have been able to take a big mark. MM and Eddie being the obvious examples. Team defence cant mind every forward if every forward is capable of the big mark.
He will want a tenacious small as well-like Eddie IMO.

Darcy Fogarty....

100%
The small forward may not come this year though imo. But the pieces are getting there

Quality ones aren't and that's the issue. We can get a heap of "handy" type mids. All good sides have class through the midfield and that's hard to get. If Kelly moves next year I reckon it will be for a minimum 2 first rounders and $1.5m a year

Personally I would take Kelly over Lynch easily

Bottom line for me is McGovern helps our forward line and age demographic and doesn't stop us getting a group of mids. IMO our KPP are almost set

I don't see the value in using a high pick for McGovern if it could instead be used on a similar quality player who is a midfielder. Going to be one hell of a trade period. Mods have my sympathy...
Never feel sorry for Mods. Like bank tellers they knew the risks when they took the job.

Re MS3 Bluemour
A lot would hinge on our PP now.
If it’s a top end pick don’t be surprised if the AFL make us (and gold coast) trade it for experienced talent.

Hence we go to the crows and say. Ok Gov and 8 for our PP. We take Walsh with 1.

Adelaide take what’s left out of Luko and Rankine

We make off like bandits and double dip in the top 10.....while we still have two picks in the 20’s to upgrade for lower picks OR more experienced talent....OR select best available

**this is the only way I see being a top 10
pick being traded out

I just don’t get it. McGovern is a WA lad, who wants out from SA. Surely if he was to leave it would be to head home closer to his family??? Instead wants to head further away from home to the wooden spooners??? Just doesn’t make sense to me...

Who says it's not our main priority? The rumour is he has agreed to terms, one thing we know about SOS is he won't overpay. Ruling out the trade before even knowing the deal is a bit silly.

I will have a stab at dissection.
Recruiting. The secret society of AFL. These recruitment guys play every card close to their chests. Getting info from SOS is like getting blood from a stone.
And yet their every move is known months in advance accoring to this. And what the AFL has planned also.
I think maybe the workmate is having a lend and has been reading bigfooty rumours. ;)

Possibly. But look at the Tuohy deal. Sos had to get it out there that Zach was available in order to get the trade done. IMO it is impossible for a dealer like SOS to operate, if he doesnt start talking to other clubs months before trade week starts- complex deals dont just happen , they need to be orchestrated over a long period. It is not unreasonable to think that employees at other clubs will have heard some of what SOS is up to. Its the stuff that they havent heard though, that makes SOS such a good operator IMO

Jake Lever trade would beg to differ. There's always quality mids in the market place & its quick to "breed" your own, KP not so much, longer to develop & rarer commodity, as such, worth more.

#10 + probably #15 for Lever - I can't think of many KPDs that would cost more than that.

#7 x2 for Treloar - I can think of quite a few mids who would cost more, Kelly for example.

Some people enjoy a bit of independence and new experiences in life which can often mean not living in the same city as their parents during their 20s and 30s. Seems to be a rare concept in the AFL.

McGovern may have been adequately sold the 'vision' and is ready to buy into it; may simply have been made a very compelling financial offer - perhaps a bit of both? Perhaps playing in Melbourne is an incentive, too.

Worth about pick 19, or whatever an end-of-first-round PP might be.

Simple answers
1. Melbourne (Victoria) is better than his home
2. People can see our talent coming through. We maybe bottom this year but in 2-3 years time we will be high up the ladder. Imo we are more appealing that freo or wce even though wce are up there currently. They wont win it and wont be up there too much longer

Yeah fair points being made by you and others
I was just being a bit grumpy
2 wins in a whole season will do that

McGovern has agreed to terms with us, so now its about getting the right deal for the crows. What that looks like right now is up in the air as we will be super active come trade period.

Is he under contract or a restricted free agent ? Is this just a Big Footy rumour or should we watching this space for public confirmation of this recruitment this week or in the very near future ?

Some posters are questioning whether we need another player of his type. Gee the way he played in that last quarter V. the Roos, he will definitely make our younger back half players such Wietering, Ploughman, Marchback etc better defenders. Plus when he goes forward, he will provide a very real 3rd marking and goal kicking target to complement Charlie and the Big H.

I still can't believe that is that real possibility ... we must be offering him a mega motza over 4 or 5 yr. deal to get to leave the Crows. Then again ... they are famous for under paying their players.

Yeah & right now Charlie would cost you more than that. Just saying, you can always find a mid (& yes you do have to pay) but good luck finding KP - they take longer to come on, as such cost more!
You invest 2-3 yrs into a mid you can have a gun, a tall takes min 3-4 & realistically 4-5.

Love it. The bullshit excuses some players use to get home drives me nuts. So many people need to move states for work. They get paid 1.5-20 times more than the national wage. Suck it up (family illness is another matter and dont mind that when it truly is something serious).
