Wouldn't be surprised if they have colluded with the AFL prior to officially asking for this.

The problem with this 1 and 3, 2 and 4 thing is that the one thing that is set about FA compo is that Band 1 = pick after your first. So we get 2.

So, for the AFL to do this, they would have to effectively admit they are making it up as they go along and that they don't know what they are doing and the system is farked. While that would be refreshing honesty and the fairest way forward, I can't see it happening.

I think the most likely outcome is that they tell us that there is no way we or Brisbane are getting Band 1 and we then re-sign Kreuze. After that, I think it's more likely they tell Brisbane that they can have a PP at 1 if they agree to take Schache.

Of course, the fairest thing would be to enforce the rules, give us 1 and 2, make sure BRisbane get 3 and 4 and change the rules next year. But I can't see it happening.

It will take some sort of 'deal' for everyone to get what they want..................It just doesn't make the process right though.

This can't and won't happen.
The rule is the pick comes after your pick.
So it is CFC 1,2 and BL 3,4.

The only other outcome is if BL get a PP and we don't , then it it becomes BL 1, CFC 2.

Then from there it depends who gets a comp pick.

So could be ...

IF CFC get a comp pick but BL don't
BL 1
CFC 2
CFC 3
BL 4

IF BL get a comp pick but CFC don't
BL 1
CFC 2
BL 3
BL 4

IF both clubs get a comp pick
BL 1
CFC 2
CFC 3
BL 4
BL 5

Then you can do the same iterations but without BL get the PP

I doubt CFC will get a PP.

We know its not the 'rule', but we also know the AFL reserves the right to make the rules up as they go. It's actually in the rules!

Which just shits me that they think like that, all clubs should be treated equally particularly when they have been around for as long as the Lions now have.

They have managed their way into this predicament so they can bloody well manage their own way out of it like Carlton or other clubs would be expected to do.

Bring Jack Elliot back to head up our court action....

Maybe if we had of taken the AFL to Court last time it would have solved a lot of problems today.

Jack was right to threaten court action as the AFL took a sledge hammer to Carlton, but had allowed EFC to win a premiership in 1993 for the same thing and have subsequently been far more lenient on salary cap breaches. The bullshit about brown paper bags shows how amateur it really was. We lost pick #1 and #2 having already traded out good players, and a whole lot more picks, so were left with nothing. Subsequent bans have been far less severe.

* cheat to significantly improve the talent of 34 players on their list with illegal drugs (per WADA statement). This destroys the fabric of the game, the equality of the draft (their picks were supercharged) and the competition, wins their captain a Brownlow, significant AFL negative publicity (darkest day), "whatever it takes", etc.
Their penalties are less than ours???? They get a pick between the first and second rounds???, they are allowed to buy free agents???, there is no trading ban???.

I know I am ranting, but I think the AFL needs to throw out the 'Carlton Rule' and allow everybody to move on.

One thing for certain, Yaz needs to be traded if we want any return.
Which ever way this goes, there will be a major stink over free agency compo. The dogs were already barking
about an end to FA compensation next year. This will guarantee it.

Can we just get rid of FA and instead have an arbitrator using the points system where clubs cannot agree value. The whole FA system has been a farce and helped the Hawks to Flags IMO.
