Plenty of players in the 2s that are young and high draft picks.
They've just got so many high draft picks that they can't all fit in the 22. The hype around them is not delusion, its logic.

But weren't not talking about young players who are high draft picks. We're talking about second rounders struggling to make an impact and a high draft pick who's been in the system for 5 years at a team that finish bottom for every year yet hasn't made any sort of real impCt at AFL level.

This isn't a discussion about Hopper and Ahern unfortunately.

I know where you are coming from but your comment is based on the premise that we would actually be getting talent to our club.

Look at the six players we have picked up from GWS thus far (Kristian Jaksch, Lachie Plowman, Jethro Lamb, Liam Sumner, Andrew Phillips & Mark Whiley) and if we are being totally honest, only Plowman looks like being a long-term player for us right now.

We all hold strong hopes that some of the others will make it too but you have to ask why it was those exact players that GWS were happy to part company with instead of some of the other guys they have on the list ?? I would of been beside myself if they had of said "in addition to Plowman, we'll throw in Hoskin-Elliott, Buntine & Smith" but that was never going to happen.

Methinks the deal last year was "we will give you Plowman because that's who you want but you have to take the other three as steak knives or its no deal". We did them a favour taking those players as they had to reduce their list size, it was a win for us based on the standard & age of our list but they were never going to give us four A-Graders in one hit.

What do you expect? Them to give us all their guns for nothing.

As you said pick 28 was a discount for plowman if we took the other contracts off their hands, and we were in a position to do that. Plowman looked great in his debut and even if the others are off our list in 2 years it's still a massive win if plowman becomes a gun defender for 10 years which I'm confident he will.


The other trade was interesting and we may well lose it if marchbank becomes a gun, but still hope for boekhurst and Jaksch to come on strong, I don't hold much hope for Whiley.

There's just a lot of talent in their twos that I reckon we can pillage it cheaply. Remember they have Pickett, Adhern, hopper who haven't even played and were top 10 picks plus they have 3 first round picks next year (theirs, collingwoods lol and geelongs), if we can swing another plowman deal, let's use sos and his connection to get it done.



Now please explain to me why pick 12 was massive overs for Tomlinson but was turned down?

Coniglio, Steele, ahern, Pickett, Kennedy, Haynes, McCarty, Hoskin-Elliot and Tomlison have all either not played at all or been dropped in 2016 and are all first round picks.

Coniglio - played in rounds 2, 3 & 4
Ahern - "serious knee injury at the beginning of 2016 means he will spend much of the season sidelined"
Steele - played rounds 1 & 4
Pickett - "the West Australian needs to work harder to get his body and fitness up to standard and should be ready to push for a debut game early this year after a second pre-season"
Kennedy - has only been at the club this season
Haynes - don't know what the reason is for this guy
McCarty - no such player unless you mean McCarthy who has homesickness and is now in WA ??
Hoskin-Elliott - played rounds 2 & 3 but is coming off a pre-season shoulder injury last year which he struggled to recover from
Tomlison - played in rounds 1, 3 & 4

I think the main question with Tomlinson is, is he a kpf or an oversized flanker?
GWS seem to try everyone else ahead of him as a key forward target..

Because of the McCarthy situation. Hard to tell one recent re contracted kid that he needed to stay while selling another in the exact same situation to the highest bidder.

The only alternative theories are that Silvagni is an idiot, or that Tomlinson is capable of playing at a level that he's never ever shown at junior, NEAFL or AFL level.

I don't believe the first and I think believing the second is more than a little optimistic.

Yeah Sumner and Lamb in the small chances they have had have shown a bit to suggest they can make a positive impact to the club.

Always a chance until they're out the door at this point.

Absolute myth. His laconic style and poor work ethic wouldn't have been tolerated at those clubs and he would have been a bust.

Cripps got drafted to a bottom team and has thrived mainly on the back of his own doing, why should we make an excuse for Gibbs?

There is no argument you can mount to suggest that GWS do not have a surplus of young talent on their list, there is oppounity to get value for money deals for out of contract players that want to come home and get more opportunities, we can provide both ( to the Victorians).

Even his bio says "a wealth of key-position talent limited Tomlinson to just eight senior games last season" & "his versatility makes him a valuable player, but also leaves him without a set position, which looked like it worked against him in 2015"

Agree with what your saying may end up we pay bugger all for him in the end . But he obviously does have some talent and could play a pretty decent role for us if he moved
here . Probably a good thing it didn't happen this year tho .

And besides adhern they are all playing some neafl, which was my point. High picks playing 2s (plus stewart who goes alright as well).

Anyway Tomlinson is a spud despite pick 12 not being enough for him and we shouldn't look at any GWS players in the future despite their relationship with SOS and getting plowman for pick 28.

That may be true, but if adhern goes into the side, it's very likely that another highly rated first round pick comes out of the side, which means there's still 10 first round picks playing 2s
