Good summation. Only thing I will add is because we are so young we will not know our best 22 for a long while and as such players will be coming in and out.

I look at what Clarkson did last year after a few early losses. He said we can't win the flag and brought in kids for experience and put seasoned players in different roles to refresh & look at other genuine options. Benefits are showing already.

That's why he is the best coach in the AFL.

Agree, best 22 has to consist of a fit Kreuzer.
We talk of Kennedy as a valued cog and his quarter last week and the glimpses I have seen are promising, he is young and hasn't played 50 games. Most put Willow in their best 22, < 50 games, Pickett < 50 games.

Hawks are still lucky enough to have senior players all over the ground which is a stronger environment to blood new players compared to having 10 players < 50 games in key positions.

Our starting midfield at times consists of Dow, SPS and either Cripps/ Murph/ Ed. I think a 66 game rebuild will look healthier when our recruits start knocking up around 66 games.

Fisher is going to be a special little player for us for a long time. What an astute selection by SOS.
I hope we sign him on a long term deal as I have a bad feeling he may want to head home. He is best mates with Griffen Logue at the dockers.

Exactly :thumbsu:

I side will look very different at the end of 2019 when Weitering Marchbank Williamson Cuningham Dow Polson McKay Charlie O'Brien SPS Fisher Kennedy Pickett Garlett Silvagni Macreadie are ALL around inside the 20-60 game mark. That is 16 players and we have another big draft to go. It makes a massive difference. We are just so young and on top of that most of our "experienced" bodies aren't that good.

We are right in the middle of a real transition at the moment and we just have to maintain the path we are on

Contracts don't mean a whole lot these days, but Fish is signed on until the end of 2020.

Wouldn't expect to hear anything on that front until mid-next year at the earliest.

This the thing whilst lingering on the bottom.. retaining our gun players

It would be more the fringe players we would have to worry about, players who are being kept out by developing players, ( Macreadie) If the younger players can see a light at the end of the tunnel they will hang around and this is why Bolts is so important and must remain a key figure.

59 pages of ranting and discussions, reckon it would barely reach 25 if we had won.

Hope it has been a cathartic process for everyone

how are we like an expansion club when we're a foundation member from the vfa/vfl/AFL and have won 16 flags in the vfl all competition?

we're making excuses aren't we?
Your always very vocal after a loss my friend, love to see you drop in for a chat after a win.

He looked pretty shattered after the loss on Saturday. Hopefully he sticks around for many years to come.

Fair enough. Big difference between not being sold and condeming the selection or saying they are no good.
thought he was going to be another hughes' skinny hbf or justin davies type...........bupbow.........wrong............

Weitering up forward, Jones down back. Lamb defensive forward, Cuningham HB, Cripps forward. All the while pumping games into kids over the likes of Kerridge, Graham etc.

Clarkson hardly did anything innovative that the likes of us or Buckley for instance aren't. Hawks are just a better side.

Couldn't disagree more. Clarkson has the ability to make things happen and get the best out if what he has been given. Bit the bullett last year and turned things around very quickly.

As for Weitering he is a kid and should be settled in one role
Jones was played back & ruck by reserves out of desperation
Lamb has always been a defensive/small forward
Cuningham was a HBF as a junior and Cripps goes forward at times.

Yep 100% right. I'm probably a little guilty of setting high expectations this season and being bitterly disappointed at the GCS game result, but it's important to keep perspective on where we are at. It was never about this season. If we did something special and snuck into finals it would be just that, but it's certainly not a reasonable expectation. We are building a good side but it's never finished, and the core group going forward has still barely got a couple of years of AFL level experience.

Saturday was very disappointing. Effort was weak and we played poorly. However, in the bigger picture it doesn't mean a lot

Bit the bullet? They had a shiteload of injuries last year Soapyv . Helps when a lot of your senior players are guns .
