This photo is brutal. The way he walked off when the poster photo was taken. It's a shame he was caught in it.

Maybe you are underestimating how important Bob Murphy was on and off the field to win this Premiership.

If the playing group are happy with him holding the cup and the coach even gives him his medal, then he probably was a big influence on them winning a Premiership.

Maybe Bob Murphy is overestimating how important Bob Murphy was to Bob Murphy's team mates winning the cup.
FWIW, lots of people behind the scenes are important to clubs winning flags.
Nobody, EVER, in the history of the AFL in that position has pranced onto the stage on grand final day, was given a medal by the coach and held up the cup.

and they will all castigate you for this.. know what that means?
you will be hated for every ball you kick... every name you get wrong.. everyone you try to get to talk to.. it wil be a trial.. :D

Its a joke, never should have gotten up. He has made it all about him, he didn't have to accept the medal from the **** roach, he didn't have to carry on like a pork chop and carry the cup around like an infant child, he didn't have to hold it up at the Whitten Oval. Piss off mate, its about the 22, not you.

LOL what? It's got nothing to do with you or any other neutrals. The club and the 22 want him there, end of story.

i honestly believe if murphy had waved away beveridges calls for him to go up to the stand, he would likely be criticised on here for trying to be a martyr or sulking... pretty hard to 'win' on BF no matter what you do.

this chest-puffing, alpha-male 'youre in the 22 or youre nothing' attitude is the absolute antithesis of what makes a good sports club, and one no player, coach or administrator would actually hold.

what a place BF can be sometimes. any person seriously bothered by how the coach, club, support staff and listed players - injured or otherwise - choose to celebrate a long overdue achievement, despite not being in any way involved themselves, needs a reality check. these arbitrary rules as to how a person should or should not act in the heat of what is, for all those involved including murphy, a career - if not life - defining moment are, to put it simply, quite ridiculous and well beyond pathetic.

Wow, amazing photo.

I think it is great the way the Bevo and the Bulldogs included their captain in as much of the celebrations as possible.

It is their moment, who cares what other people think

You're right...zero relevance to anyone's AFL memories ever.
Nah.

Terrible coach and presided over a supplement regimen which through a mixture of nativity, negligence and arrogance brought Essendon to its knees and tarnished 3 whole seasons of AFL football but the bastard could play football at the rarest of levels.

I'll remember him as the player he was, not as the dickhead he turned out to be.

Easy to airbrush him out there.

Can't have that on kids walls.

Beveridge is the most loved man in the country right now and the majority of Bulldogs players are getting plenty of love.

Yeah a fair bit of hyperbole, but it does definitely feel like there has been a turn. So many people are so salty.

Imagine this.

You work yourself up to it, grab the medal from around your neck, 100,000 people in the stadium and millions watching on TV, your hands shake but you're going to do it anyway, you say the words "can I get Bob Murphy up on stage" and from the back of the pack of players you hear a response picked up by the breeze and carried to you..."no mate, thanks but seriously you keep it". Standing there like a bellend with the medal clasped in your outstretched hands a silent stadium stares at you.

Is this legitimately how some posters would have preferred this to go down?

It was great moment and I welled up like a little baby. Wouldn't have it any other way.

shows how close-knit the group is. guys like wallis and redpath are relatively new to the team and will likely get their chance again. and these younger guys know he's been there through the prelim losses and lives and breathes the club.

Don't ever recall him being up on the podium in 2005 or 2012. Happy to be wrong though. Do whatever you want back in the rooms/family day/whatever afterwards, but perhaps let the 22 get their moment first up on the dias (most years even the coaches take a step back at this point).

Again, missing the completely blatant point that to a man all his teammates wanted him there.

And nobody, ever, in the history of the AFL, has ever carried on like such a flogsock the way you are right now over something that has absolutely no impact on you whatsoever.

Go and start a petition to ban all non players from having a can after a game of fifth grade cricket this summer.

I highly doubt that Beveridge had not told Murphy of his plans before doing so.

I do not think he is being judged too much for accepting the medal(at the game) and lifting the cup. It is the way he conducted himself since(he is entitled to do so but I do wonder if he will look back on it and slightly cringe despite it being a great day for him) and the taking of the spotlight from others that a few posters seem to dislike.

He does not exactly look like the most selfless, humble, classy guy right now despite him having a repution of being an absolute standup person.

Beveridge and Wood seem alot more dignified but Bulldogs fans seem happy so good for them. I will definitely be rooting for them to get another flag.

I really hope that no difficult decisions have to be made next season if Murphy's return from injury does not go as well as hoped.

As everyone knows, rugby league legend Steve Price really tarnished his legacy by having a bench player by the name of J. THURSTON give him his premiership ring after the 2004 grand final that Price had to miss. Just highlights how selfish you have to be to ever accept a nice gesture from a friend.
