Maybe Bob Murphy is overestimating how important Bob Murphy was to Bob Murphy's team mates winning the cup.
FWIW, lots of people behind the scenes are important to clubs winning flags.
Nobody, EVER, in the history of the AFL in that position has pranced onto the stage on grand final day, was given a medal by the coach and held up the cup.
Look, yes it was different to what we normally see, but If the Bulldogs are happy doing that then I don't mind. The Premiership cup is theirs and if they want their captain holding it even though he didn't play then it is their choice.

It adds to the strong bond that they have as a coach and playing group and this bond is probably what gave them the strength and resilience to win the Premiership in the first place. So I am not concerned by that.

Its a joke, never should have gotten up. He has made it all about him, he didn't have to accept the medal from the **** roach, he didn't have to carry on like a pork chop and carry the cup around like an infant child, he didn't have to hold it up at the Whitten Oval. Piss off mate, its about the 22, not you.

Man, if only Essendon had remembered it was about the 22 players when they were treating them like pincushions...

I found the whole thing a bit weird. Probably because I am so used to it being about the 22 who actually beat the other team

A #freekickhawthorn fan has never seen less than 24 folks on the field beating the other team.

Gotta admit it was a shit look having murphy in the circle (3 games in 2016) while Jong stood by a watched after playing ,most the season. He was the only one injured. I remember Presti gave up his GF spot and then kept his head down.

The Dogs fans love Bob. The Dogs coaches love Bob. The Dogs players love Bob. Who gives 2 shits if others don't like what happened? :) Murphy becoming captain is one of the best things that has ever happened to this club :)

Maybe you are underestimating how important Bob Murphy was on and off the field to win this Premiership.

If the playing group are happy with him holding the cup and the coach even gives him his medal, then he probably was a big influence on them winning a Premiership.
it's called 'spiritual leadership'
you know without all the weed smoking and drink driving charges normally associated with such a position..:thumbsu:

Fixed that for ya.

As everyone knows, rugby league legend Steve Price really tarnished his legacy by having a bench player by the name of J. THURSTON give him his premiership ring after the 2004 grand final that Price had to miss. Just highlights how selfish you have to be to ever accept a nice gesture from a friend.
I dont know this story.

So Price forced him.to hand over his medal?

When its all said and done, Bob never played and won a Grand Final.
It must have been have been a bittersweet experience for him, it's hard to begrudge him a bit of a celebration..

Murphy ya selfish dawggggggg! It ain't about you mate

Seriously though imagine players like lin Jong and suckling who made somewhat of a meaningful contribution this year compared to Bob, having to watch him parade around, singing in the team circle etc. Just take your medal and get off stage you jabroni
I'd suggest Bob's contribution to this win and the 2016 season was more significant than those 2

As I type, Bob is sitting in the café at Whitten Oval crying over the fact that random supporters don't like him.

Bevo is beside himself with regret: "What have I done?" Cue weeping and gnashing of teeth.

This thread, and all whingers in it, is threatening to tear the fabric of the club apart.

Crisis time at Whitten Oval. :(

Bob Murphy accepting unashamedly a premiership medal and carrying on like a premiership player is no different to a fraud marching in the Anzac parade with a medal for bravery claiming to be a war vetran

He is a genuine champion footballer and bloke who has the love and respect from his fellow players, his coach and all the Bulldog supporters. He will always be remembered as a great. Those trying to tear him down will not be remembered at all.

There are about another 180 champion footballers with more humility then Bob atm.

To be honest it was one of the most brilliant and selfless things I've ever seen a player or coach do in football, what Bevo did for Murphy. Murphy has toiled his entire career and Bevo knew he'd be hurting so much not to go over the line with them in the Grand Final. He sacrificed his own rightful spot to hold up the cup and it was a beautiful thing.

Bob just loves the club, loves the supporters, loves football. He wouldn't be thinking "I'm a premiership player" - he'd be thinking "I love this club even more now because they've shown amazing humility and respect to me in a really tough situation".

It's absolutely brilliant, and what's even better is that he has shown the guts to stand up and accept that offer from Bevo and the club, rather than be a "real man" or some of the other bullshit that people have said he should do. Hang his head in shame etc.

Well done to Bob. I guess it's typical that the moment would only last a few minutes before we'd start finding a way to criticise him, but there you have it.

Premiership medals are given to premiership players and the premiership coach for the simple reason that they are the ones that have earned the right to the darn things.
It means something to win a premiership medal. The operative word being 'win'.

Again, tell me why you need to be concerned with what they do with them once they're presented?

If the coach gave his medal to a homeless kid in the street would you kick up a stink?

Price did nothing of the sort. It was JT's gesture and it meant the world to Price. Beveridge did this off his own bat as well and as far as I'm concerned there's no reason we can't let it simply go into the sporting annals as a great example of a guy doing something awesome for a clubmate.

You do understand those people March to pay homage and show their pride regarding departed family members right?

Next you'll be campaigning to stop bands covering songs they didn't write themselves
