I agree. Most clubs would have tried to sweep it under the carpet, as Port has done regularly. However, if we only intended for a 1 week suspension we should have said so. To me, and alot of other people "indeafernetlee":D implies longer than 1 week.

This would not have been an issue if we didn't already have all the negativity with regard to the womens shelter community service. However, as King has said this was an Anderson blunder so I take back my original comment.

Carry On.

It would have been longer had Bock not fulfilled the criteria set for him. Had he not done that, I have no doubt he would not be playing until he had.

Exactly. This is the point a lot of people keep missing. He was suspended until he met certain guidelines. He met those and was allowed back in.

I see what your saying, but does suspension actually help in his rehabilitation. If you were to do such a thing is sitting at home and not going to work actually going to help you?

Possibly not the best decision in terms of image (or being seen doing something), but for Bock as an individual it may be. Part of his rehab may be getting things back to normal?

Does any jail time help anything?

Sometimes punishment should be the issue.

Translated as if that bullying thug named Brogan had been jailed the first time he was found guilty of assaulting an innocent member of the public, he may not have assaulted another member of the public.

Yes??

Only thing is Macca, Bock has form also. Be careful not to shoot your mouth off.

Ignoring the invective about Brogan, then on reflection, yes, convicted assult should have carried a greater penalty. Port probably made a mistake with the club imposed penalty. The penalty imposed on Trengove for some minor property damage was appropriate. The penalties imposed on Pickett were too light. Hopefully we will learn with experience, however I doubt anyone in any kind of authority will ever come around to to having the same opinions as me. My opinions are too brutal for there to be many who would agree with me, more's the pity to my mind.

Personally I believe that jail time used to rehabilitate is a bunch of bullshit, jail time should be a punishment, the harder the punishment, the better it is as a deterrent.

The punishment should suit the crime, be that punishment is a fine, community service, jail time, whatever. Again personally I believe we as a society have hamstrung ourselves in trying to be an "enlightned society" by denying ourselves certain types of punishment.

A copper should be able to give a kid a swift kick on the bum, there should be physical punishment for certain crimes, their should be the death penalty for certain crimes.

To me, a 1 week club imposed suspension seems a very trivial thing when compared to the deed Bock has admitted to doing. I would have figured something like a 4 week penaly by the club more appropriate, considering the fact Bock still has to face civil authority in court.

That's all well and good if you want to turn football clubs into judge, jury and executioner, but as it is a football club has no authority for punishment of a criminal act. Therefore whatever they do isn't really the punishment, it's a delicate balance between PR, keeping the AFL happy, and reminding the player of who employs them.

In the case of Bock, we've taken a bit of a PR hit by bringing him back a bit early, but the AFL is happy and the rest is between player and club. When the matter makes it to court, he'll be punished. The severity of that punishment is subjective, so some people still won't be happy either way, but FFS let's just let this bloody thing run its course.

Seriously, why do Port and Crows supporters bother posting on each others board. The posts are normally anti the other board and laced with that much bias its never relevant or remotely interesting.

Its just a more subtle version of the embarrassing Crows v Port Adelaidenow blogs.

This whole "but we respect all opinions on each others board" is BS becuase more often than not the opposing supporters opinion is riddled with that much bias its neither relevant nor interesting.

Grow up fool.

I hope this moron is made aware that if he steops out of line again he's out. Actually, it wouldn't bother me if he was traded at years end.

In defence of "Peter" - who I don't know from a bar of salt - it is just quite possible that he "knows" and can't tell us because it's a public forum (as you suggested) but can't stand by and do nothing either? I've had to stifle myself on numerous occasions because I "know" stuff no-one else does about particular situations, but also know I can't reveal this publicly however when someone runs off at the mouth (clearly knowing nothing but proclaiming that they do) I find it really hard to NOT say anything.

LOL Good lord does that make sense?? :o:p

if he can't tell us, he should shut the **** up.

its just kids stuff - look at me, I have a secret.

I guess I just imagined him not playing for the first 3 rounds and I guess I also imagined Neil Craig coming out commenting publicly about his lack of an offensive game.

nice strawman. did it take long? ;)

You're obviously one of those supporters that bags the guy that receives the bad kick or dumb handball rather than the person who actually does it.

obviously. because of course your imaginary scenario of hospital handballs must be true, and the make believe reactions of others to these imaginary situations is the natural conclusion.

However, I will try harder to be more forgiving of players for errors made in your imagination. :p

I saw it again in the Adelaide V Sydney trial this year. Shirley looks around and then dishes out a backwards hand grenade in the back footy to Thompson (I think?) who is tackled immediately ball spills loose another Swans player picks up the ball and kicks a goal. The know nothings were bagging Thompson whereas the reality was that Thompson had no chance at all.

and then Bobby Ewing gets out of the shower.

random post:

my friend and i were just shown on channel 7 news with Bock at training today haha :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Actually Crow-mo's post reminded me that I was going to have a crack at you jen for yet another of your crusades for the indefensible cause!! :p

I've been in the same position as Peter several times and never posted a crumb or whiff of it because morally I can't.

Seriously, there is no defence for Peter. He either says what he knows or says nothing.

They came out and said he will do community service at a womans shelter without consulting someone from a womens shelter thereby creating a sh@t storm. They also said he will be suspended "indefinately" and then only give him 1 week.

He's still doing some work for the shelter as I understand. Just not directly AT the shelter.

Also, you assumed "indefinitely" = long time. It doesn't mean a long or a short time, it just means it's not known (defined) at the time.

If nothing's being achieved by keeping him off the park then what's the point? He still has to face the music before the courts and in the public spotlight. He's still got his fine. He's still got the stigma to carry for the rest of his career. And fair enough too.

Get him back on the field and back into a normal routine if he's ready :thumbsu:

What he did is still :thumbsd: but another 3 weeks on the sidelines won't undo it.

Without knowing a great deal about the incident, I'm actually glad Bock's back in. He's been your Rock of Gibraltar back there in defence for a while now, and providing the incident wasn't of a very serious nature its pretty harsh punishing the whole team by leaving a star like Bock out.

Watched a replay of last year's Adelaide v Geelong match last night to get meself more psyched for tomorrow night. Hope we're in that sorta form again!:D

Best of luck people...

I was at that game. I couldn't get over the size of geelong compared to our lads. I thought the final scoreline flattered us somewhat.

I spent the last quarter barracking for us to lose by less than 12 goals. I think we lost by a bit over 11 goals so I guess I got my wish :o

Really hope Shirley doesn't come in. No offense to him, but it would be a negative selection. He can't stop Gaz, we should attack him and make the most of what WE can.

[\QUOTE]

Your an idiot, he is our best tagger, and teared Ablett a new one last time we played Geelong, before you post get a clue!!!
.....
