Rumour Bombers after Sidebottom

Not too sure on that. I think you guys are a within striking distance of a premiership so may be after someone older/at peak. Maybe Welsh (who would play as a tagger and you were reportedly interested in last year) coupled with a draft pick could potentially be enough?

I like welsh, he's under rated by a lot of people

I still dont think it would sway the Pies though... We look like weve got the balance of youth and experience just about right.

To convince me to part ways with Steele i'd be wanting someone like Robbie Grey, Mark Lecras, someone like that (might be asking a bit much but thats my valuation of how good Hard Arse is and how much better he will be)

Serious deal there. Did you notice the draft pick as well. I think Welsh + 2nd round (and/or swap 1st round picks as you will finish higher then us) would be reasonable?

How about you trade Hurley to Collingwood for a big delicious poo sandwich.

Serious deal there, sound reasonable?

Knights would also be a great addition to our team as we really only have Monfries to fill out that medium forward role, but Boak would be top of our list at the moment. We need to improve our skills and Boak would definetly bring improvement to this area.

If i was the bombers recruitment, id be going for both...

It would take some doing but youve got some seriously talented youth and those two would be very nice additions.

Sidebottom's good and would love him at the Bombers, but if it's true we've offered him a mil over 3 years, I'd be very disappointed.

330K per would be the average salary of a player in the 8-12 bracket of a team, or thereabouts. Given Sidebottom is a firm best 22 player in a premiership contender as a teenager, I don't think it's a massive stretch to imagine he'd justify that contract and then some.

p.s. massive lols were had @ the offer of Welsh.

What let me get this straight:

Essendon gain Sidebottom,

Collingwood get Welsh + upgrade of about 4 on 1st round pick + 2nd round draft pick.

Obviously I am not suggesting it will happen, but personally I think if he were to nominate Essendon this could potentially be a deal.

Offers to Hurley & Pears, get them upping the anti at Essendon and then we can talk. No way they'd give up those two but we wouldn't deal without one and we'd need to make them pay for the other. In reality though Sidebottom isn't going anywhere. If somehow we did trade him because he wanted to go I'd be ropeable. The old MM line about trade\ing players who want out is weak and loser syndrome.

Yeah fair point. He's definitely a gun.

Collingwood get Welsh + upgrade of about 4 on 1st round pick + 2nd round draft pick.

Welsh would get nowhere near our 22.

The 2nd round pick in a year where the GC and WS are raping the draft is roughly a 25% proposition to make it.

So we've given you Sidebottom for a 4 pick (it'll be more, but I'll humour you) upgrade.

Where do I sign?

Listen to Zooey Deschanel, she is infinitely smarter than you and far more attractive.

Welsh is a downgrade when thrown in with a trade, the only team that wins from trading Welsh is Essendon. He wouldn't be in our top 30 let alone best 22.

So Essendon gain: Sidebottom and the offloading of a spud

Collingwood get a really terrible draft pick (i.e. your 2nd rounder will be in the 40s this year).
Hmmm.

If you wanna do the poo sandwich trade though we are definitely keen.

Poach players from Collingwood at your peril.
Richmond tried that in the early 80's by grabbing Phillip Walsh.
This started an all out war between the Pies and Richmond, with players from both sides being grabbed.
Sent Richmond broke and nearly into extinction, they have never been any good since.

If Ess have any brains they would stick to having a crack at the Victorian boys at interstate clubs.

Fair enough, probably did not factor in GC draft picks pushing out the 2nd round. Would have to be players as well then.
Although I still think Welsh would offer a fair bit as a tagger (as I recall many Collingwood posters were pretty happy when rumours of Welsh being chased by Collingwood emerged).

Steele Sidebottom will be playing for either the Gold Coast or Collingwood in 2011 and beyond.

Collingwood would not even consider trading Steele to a club like Essendon.

If he says he wants to leave, he goes to the Gold Coast.

HARDBALL ALL THE WAY, especially when the silvertails from Essendon are concerned.

Have fun talking about it Bummers supporters, but it ain't going to happen.

I heard about that. hehe...

I think all the vic clubs know this. This is the bst way to bend a side over come trade period. We should be looking at chasing Boak too.

There are acceptions though, if there is a player of the calibre of Welsh available than we surely must break this rule?

Okay that aside, would you substitute Welsh with any of Monfries, Prismall, McVeigh or Williams?

The piss. You are taking it.

There are 4 players at Essendon who, if the AFL were to hold a draft, would clearly go ahead of Sidebottom.

They are;
- Hurley
- Pears
- Ryder
- Watson

Hurley I'd jump at. Pears, probably. Ryder is mentally soft, and I want no part of him. Watson is fantastic, but we can't carry another inside mid in our team.

That's the list. So unless you're prepared to offer Pears or Hurley, it's a polite no thanks from our end.

I would not want Watson in my team. Ryder/Hurley/Pears are all great young players, I'd love to see Ryder at the Pies in particular - easily one of my favourite non-Pies players.

I can't see this having any real chance of occuring. Collingwood has done very well in the past retaining players that they want to keep - the only one leaving that I can remember against the clubs wishes is Nick Davis. It's very rare that you see such an early draft pick walk out on a club at this stage of their careers. You also have to remember that as a rule the club that has the player has just about all the bargaining power so the club chasing generally pays overs to get their man. Besides this the story is probably bogus anyway.

*Also to the Welsh suggestion thats almost a cardable offence ;) Atleast keep em realistic people.

We won't get him. Would love him at EFC but the cost would be massive. Honestly, on potential he is a top 5-6 pick in that draft. So in an equal world you would REASONABLY expect to get a top 5 pick back for Sidebottom. I am an Essendon fan and only Hurley, Watson (at a stretch), Ryder and Gumbleton are worth top 5 picks. None of these will be traded, and thus Collingwood won't be trading Sidebottom.

ps. Would rather try to get Dangerfield or Travis Boak anyway.
