great to come back from a pretty serious injury, play one week in the ressies and then get 20 touches, 8 tackles and 4 clearances.
Given who is looking at having the picks, Crouch may have not gone top 5-7. The Suns are looking like finishing bottom and taking Whitfield on the basis of best player available, NOT addressing a key need. They already have a couple ruckman and probably wouldn't take another one in Grundy. GWS next - Sheedy has said they'd be looking at getting a ruckman and Grundy is the obvious choice. Melbourne is next and they will probably take Viney (Viney would be good at the Suns, so I imagine the Suns would make a bid) with their first pick and I doubt they would've taken Crouch, another inside midfielder, with the other pick. Either the Bulldogs or Port will finish as the next bottom team and the Dogs already have a lot of inside midfielders and Port would look at taking Toumpas or Garlett if Toumpas was already picked. That's the first 6 picks of the draft.
How would Crouch's season (apart from injury) compare to that of Toumpas and in previous seasons Trengoves playing underage at the SANFL level?

Grundy from SA right?
At the end of last year, we didn't have an obvious lead ruckman, yes we had Jacobs but he was still not a lead ruckman in the smae was as he is now. Why didn't we list Grundy as that 17 year old?
If he is as good as everyone is saying and Crouch is only 5-10, I'm missing it?
And he only played a quarter or two in that reserves match, didn't he?
toumpas is faster but crouch is bigger and stronger. toumpas probably more silky skilled but crouch will put his head over the ball every time and try to burst through packs. he is a lot like dangerfield, just not as fast, but probably with better disposal. every game i've seen him in he's impressed me more and more. great to come back from a pretty serious injury, play one week in the ressies and then get 20 touches, 8 tackles and 4 clearances.
but yeah, he's not lightning fast but fast enough, sticks his head over the ball and enjoys the hard stuff. his body is already an afl ready body.

there he is in all his glory.

Jacobs was our obvious lead ruckman.
Jacobs is arguably the best in the AFL at the moment, there may be none better.Ummm, yeah but why is it so obvious of we can get a better ruckman.

100% agree but he wasn't last October/November when the draft was.Jacobs is arguably the best in the AFL at the moment, there may be none better.

He has talent and was our best option in the ruck but wasn't close to the same player he is now.
Ummm, because you can't actually say a 17 year old ruckman playing U18's is obviously better than one already averaging 30+ hitouts in the AFL?
We probably did, but we didn't announce to the world every player we looked at and why we chose Crouch over them.
Presumably we felt that Crouch was a better fit for us.
Yeah, congratulations but you can not say that about any 17 year old kid in any position.
It's about projecting development.
Don't try and make this out as if i'm bagging Sam Jacobs or even Brad Croutch, but just questioning why we didn't look at Grundy when he was an SA lad and clearly had plenty of talent.

Actually, that order is impossible...At this stage, you'd think it would go
GC: Whitfield
GWS: Grundy
Melb: Stringer
Melb: Viney
Port: Toumpas.![]()
They can't trade pick #3 if GC or GWS make a bid for Viney. Under those circumstances, they would be forced to use pick #3 on him - and that pick would then be locked away and could not be traded.Apparently Melbourne are planning to pull a swifty with their first round pick. The idea is that they trade say pick 3 for pick 14-18 plus a player. They can then use the lower pick for Viney and get the player for free.
No doubt the AFL was endorse this only to change the rules a megasecond before we have our first father/son.
Keep drafting quality mids and trade for ruckman rather than have them mature on our list for 5 years taking up space. Has worked for the swans for the last 10yrs ?! How about Crouch's brother - strategically sensible and likely to land in our draft region ?
good point - he's a young-un isn't heMini-Draft region?I would think he would be pretty high up in next years draft. Him and Aish.
Would give my left testicle for that one...Mini-Draft region?I would think he would be pretty high up in next years draft. Him and Aish.
