Traded Brandon Starcevich - traded to West Coast as part of a 3-way trade with Brisbane and Fremantle

You would be banking on finding a combination of two teams having a late First Rounder and early Second Rounder though.

Your pick 12 might have ended up being a bridesmaid pick also, with both Gold Coast pick 7 and Carlton’s pick 9 likely getting more attention when auctioned.
Or, like Brisbane and Geelong did to the Dogs, we say this is the picks we have, tried to find something else that would work, tough t***ies for an out of contract player?

Don’t follow the reference to what we did to the Dogs ?

I dont remember seeing Brisbane bend over backwards to make sure Dogs were compensated for Dunkley?
Well you remember incorrectly. We made heaps of trade to position ourselves to please the dogs.

Just remember they ended up paying with pick 21, F1, F2, F4 for Dunkley and a couple of Third Rounders.
Cut out all the bravado in that off season and they were well compensated.

Find me one Dogs supporter who thinks that trade was fair and reasonable and they were well compensated

Find me a reasonable dog supporter first….. There was actually a few Dog supporter gloating how much we overpaid straight after that trade was finalized in the Dunkley Trade thread.

The dogs were pretty firm to deal then, even holding the deal up wanting that extra F4. Remembering watching Pickering on the last night getting fraustrated with the Dogs, was quite entertaining.

What else could have they reasonably expected to be given ?
Just another case of The Dom making something happen

Yes, Dom told em this is what we got, take it or leave it for the uncontracted player you'll lose anyway. It takes two to hold up a deal over an F4 by the way but its all good for Freo to just throw picks to other clubs for shits and giggles..

Fair from take it or leave it really.

We were required to trade into the Future 2nd round (which worked out brilliantly, thanks to Morris) so we could offer both our F1 and F2 to the bulldogs.

The request for the F4 came late in the piece after agreeing in principal, as they realized we had two F4 and one could be taken. Again we simply just agreed and got our man.

Look whether you and I believe it they see themselves as contending next season. So taking the bloke at 23, while holding 19 (which they may flip into next year, or take a WA slider the bloke off the ACL would be a chance name is escaping me). Think this trade suits all 3 sides where their lists are at, Freo don't need draft picks they don't help next year

They literally traded a bunch of picks out (including starting to break up 15) for points first then said to Dogs this is what we got...
At the time it was considered fair value
By the same people who dont think Freo shat the bed with this trade?

I haven't kept up with this thread, but was the hold up to lodge Oscar Allen paperwork due to the Lions holding West Coast to ransom?

Lions have done ridiculously well to get anything back for him in my opinion. PSD should've been used if pick 2 wasn't up for grabs as Allen compensation.

Sure if you want to burn bridges by all means use the PSD. It’s such an irrelevant threat these days

It was held up because WC and Lions didnt agree on the value of Starcevich so Freo jumped in to pay the gap for each team

Yep and you have other trades and what not

Generally I would agree, I think it should be abolished. But in this scenario, Eagles just didn't want to dilute their compensation but with their incomings, Lions were never going to get anything for him.

My point was the Oscar Allen signing was held up until this trade went through, they seem interlinked but they are 2 separate transactions.

Personally, I've no skin in this game so I couldn't care less really. I just found it interesting that Eagles seemed to be held over a barrel thanks to some sneaky work by the reigning premiers.

I think everything I described is a fair indication that the actual situation was far more than take it or leave it.

Yer there was some BF melts when we traded pick 15, but nothing from
the Bulldogs in the media. We got fairly good indication from people who attended the Brisbane Drafting night, that we offered a package of pick 15 and F1, but they viewed value differently and we obviously worked and gave them what they wanted.

We literally traded that pick back 6 spot for some drafting points for Ashcroft/Fletcher who we were equally committed too. Again what else could you “reasonably” expect for Dunkley, who was behind Bont, Treloar, McCrae and Libba while also having Smith.

Geez you’re taking this trade hard. It’s obviously not a home run and you may look to have lost some value, but I’m sure your recruiting team is happy with the outcome.
