As you said that’s the nature of the beast, and most players understand that, hence why many turn their back on the extra $$ to remain if they want to be a one club player. There’s also a lot of benefits to being a one club player, particularly for big clubs like the pies.
I think that the only player we’ve actually lost to FA from memory was Thomas? And even then I’m skeptical about us actually wanting to retain him. I think Bucks was quite happy to see him out the door at the time.
I can't help but look at Thomas's move with hindsight and think it was a stroke of luck for us. I think it's forgotten what a super player he was at his peak. He was just never the same after his ankle injury. Carlton never got anywhere near his best. Great result all round
