I’ve always been stunned as to why people decided Sayers was the saviour.
Look at the facts.
Has been on the board through an incredibly poorly administered era.
Was a key player in bad choice after bad choice in CEO appointments.
Was a key player in weak decision-making on coaching appointments … and sackings.
Was caught out doing his own thing through the most recent coaching appointment debacle.
Appointed a CEO on top dollar who was otherwise retiring/being moved on by his club.
Oversaw a review process which ridded the club of many alleged underperformers but saw the retention of the guy ultimately responsible for the football program.

I never decided Sayers was the savior. I had long since decided that the Log was hopeless and anyone has to be an improvement - which he clearly is.

Potting the club for appointing Cook is bizarre. I certainly don't remember anyone complaining when he was appointed.

He was but one vote on the board. You say a key player but we don't really know how much influence he had. I know it would be dangerous to think that a whole board is incompetent, spill it and start again.

Sounding out Clarkson as the president is hardly a major crime.

The Cook bit is just naval gazing. Cook had a rep as one of the best CEOs in the game. He wasn't being moved on because he was past it or not very good. Clubs succession plan all the time.

The review process was underway well before Cook was appointed. In fact Teague was sacked 3 weeks before Cook got the job and Cook didn't officially start for several more weeks after that. I mean, I've seen stat padding but you've run around the back for a handball on consecutive points there.

It's amazing that we have so many successful people individually yet once they hit the board it all goes to shit.

I have no idea what our problem is. Too many bulls all pulling the opposite direction?

As I suggested, there’s plenty here who want to ignore the facts regarding Sayers’ history on the board and as president.
You’re no different.

I’m not potting the club.

One person took it upon himself to conduct a coach search and made promises he couldnt keep. And the CEO “search” wasn’t a best practice process.

I’ll state up front - I believed Cook was a good get however I’m very concerned at what I’ve seen and heard since his appointment. Ultimately he’s only as good as the results he achieves after his appointment.

Either way, its not good governance to allow individuals to impose themselves so directly on what should be thorough and collaborative processes. It’s not like the club hasn’t suffered through previous leaders taking the same approach.

It's amazing that we have so many successful people individually yet once they hit the board it all goes to s**t.

I doubt it's that simple. Can I again suggest we have an appeasement culture right across the board without getting all the dislikes?

Sayers is about to get drawn through the mud as there is a massive investigation into PwC when he was head honcho.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'stepping down at the end of next year' narrative was a deliberate ploy to get in first.

Otherwise it would look like Sayers is stepping down because he was being investigated; similar way to how the Pratt presidency ended.

If so, smart PR. Makes it look like this was planned, deliberate and mandated instead of being booted out on bad press.
There is no narrative or pre emptive strike by Sayers here. His board tenure is up, as per our constitution. So the "stepping down and off" is actually exactly what should happen

PWC investigation is unrelated however the query will be, will it distract him from running a footy club, which is an honorary role, in addition to his other business interests.

If the answer to that is yes, then he should step down, earlier than end of next year, to allow someone with the time and clear headedness to lead the footy club

Left to their own devices, gatekeepers will usually hire like for like.
When you say like for like, your right.

When MLG took over the changes he made under the guise of "board /club stability" was the sub committee for a nominee for board to be ratified by that sub committee which included existing board members.

Inference being, like for like, for open positions. Difficult for something different / outsider to get a chance...

Vince Loccisano (ex Carltonian president and club life member) as part of the 2021 challenge to further proposed constitutional challenges set in motion by Sayers, and ultimately rescinded off the back of Vince and others challenge, actually talked to this exact point.

Little known facts, often dismissed by most carlton supporters. Particularly as most, dont understand or care for the politics of football

Genuine question.

Cook is no spring chicken. Contract ends 2024. Will be 69.

What is his succession plan at Carlton, who is being groomed to replace him.

He should be paying down his experience and knowledge, otherwise we are CEO hunting again very soon

You want us to appease to your suggestion?

Astute observation, PwC are ****ed there “culture” is super toxic & leadership is appalling. He has to stepped down anyway due to the “by laws on tenure” but it 100% circumvents the negative press the club doesn’t need 👍

BC addressed this recently on 3AW interview where he said what he said about no the end of the world re: finals (more like a 100 game contract and only 30 in), they’ll start on succession planning next year.

You’re no different.

There's also plenty here whose arrogance blinds them to the fact that people hold different opinions and there is often nuance to be found.

I'm sorry that adding some fact to the discussion has accelerated your arrogance. I'd suggest pulling your head in a little if you enjoy being part of the community.

How can most Carlton supporters dismiss 'facts' if as you claim they dont know about them?

Threats. Nice.

Just maybe there isn't actually a problem.

Maybe when our team loses a few matches some folks that post here decide they can tie it into the board and staff etc. when its simply an onfield problem.

Then theres a few that wouldnt care if we won ten flags in a row and would still find something wrong.

Agree with your point about our assistant coaches. They need to be upgraded. Unfortunately the person in charge of reviewing coaching performance and making changes as and when required is our head of football, Brad Lloyd, who has persistently failed at this task.
Yeah I think we need to start asking questions here. Why does it appear that for the last 23 years do most of our assistants have second rate credentials?

I think Lloyd needs to pull off some wins or why persist? Cook, Williams and Sayers are responsible for his position. If he's failing, then they are failing.

So why after all this and all the mistakes do we have another senior coach under the pump surrounded by a moat of second rate assistant coaches?

We know the better sides the last 10-15 year. Richmond, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood and I'd even have Sydney up there. Where do our assistants come from? The other end.

Sayers conducted a review and kept Lloyd. Nothing wrong with making a mistake just own it.

This was the most perplexing outcome of the review. The review found a failing football department with underperforming coaches (who were removed), a lack of delineation around roles and other adverse findings, but the head of that department (who is responsible for running the department and hires within the department) retained his position. A real head scratcher.

Dunno what's wrong with accepting that the review found Lloyd was ok at this job.

I'd like to know any business that has a department marked as F and the department head who's been there long enough given a pass.
The way it makes sense to me, is that Liddle interfered so much that Lloyd got a chance to demonstrate he's up to it. Reckon Cook's mentoring might have helped it across the line. Simon Lloyd at Geelong gets good reviews.
