Why is there always a desire to find a scapegoat?

How many club CEOs, Presidents and Directors of Football are regulars in the media?

Expecting Diesel in particular to be front and centre is a joke, surely.
No scapegoat hunting here…

I, like many others just want the club to actually find what is holding us back for the last 20 years and finally fix it…

We’re 8 years into a rebuild and haven’t made the 8 yet, something’s holding us back…

You’re having a go at Sayers, Cook, Williams for having “gone missing”

That has nothing to do with why we are where we are on the field.

Of course it’s scapegoating.

never said cook has gone missing, they are your words…

President is the boss and face of the club, he really should be out communicating with the members and backing his staff…

You’re right, you said the other two had.

What exactly do you want Williams to be doing?
And why is what he’s currently doing responsible for the position we’re currently in?

Williams I’m not fussed about, was an observation, he was everywhere until mid last year, when we’re playing well…

Scapegoating would mean I was trying to get someone to take the fall/ sacked… None of my posts even mentioned this…

I want the current regime (most competent one we’ve had in quite a while), to find the root of our on field issues and fix them… so the last 20+ years don’t keep repeating itself…

Sayers is about to get drawn through the mud as there is a massive investigation into PwC when he was head honcho.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'stepping down at the end of next year' narrative was a deliberate ploy to get in first.

Otherwise it would look like Sayers is stepping down because he was being investigated; similar way to how the Pratt presidency ended.

If so, smart PR. Makes it look like this was planned, deliberate and mandated instead of being booted out on bad press.

It’s never a surprise.

Is there a way of removing these rich people away from our board?

They seem to be in it for their own benefits rather than making Carlton great again.

All cool except for under our current constitution he actually does have to stand down after having served 3 continuous terms of 4 years on the board.

Haven't heard anything about him being involved in the PWC mess. Basically the government asked a tax expert for help in toughening up some rules. Said expert told all and sundry what the new rules would ve and PWC then trolled for new business on the basis of knowing what the rules would change to.

Many of the head brass at the time were named. No mention of Sayers.

This thread is interesting.

I know Sayers. I know Bruce. I am surprised they don’t get on. The Board has been a joke for 20 years. Good boards have 6 people from diverse backgrounds. 8 max.

We can’t play games at Visy Park. AFL has a contract for number of games at mcg and marvel for 20+ years. I guess they could change Marvel as they own it, but there is a ton of capex going into a precinct there so it won’t happen.

Not sure why people hate pokies. It’s a legal product. Next we will ban fast food, alcohol and wind power. Don’t like it don’t use it
Oh no, they can’t ban Earth, Wind and Fire.

Left to their own devices, gatekeepers will usually hire like for like.

Sure, which is why I used the word mandated in my post.

I thought it was somewhat unusual to have a story come out with 'I am going to step down in 18 months because I have to'. My theory might explain it.

I would rather my club be broke and asking us supporters for money than taking this imbecile's money. This idiot is the last of the loud mouthed old school rich folk who think the CFC is their playing thing. Makes my blood boil, the club must sever all ties with that family.
And it was good to hear someone like Robbie Walls echo my sentiments on radio the other day where he said Carlton should tell all the rich pricks like Mathieson to take their money and **** off.

Our club has been run by outside powerbroker for far too long. Time to sever all ties with these power hungry flogs. We are now in a financial position we’re we don’t need their handouts any longer.
It will also take time to clean up the years of mismanagement that has plagued this club. I think we have the right people in place now, we just need to be patient and let them get it right.

I wouldn't be against getting a couple of paid directors in to improve the football side of the business. We constantly seem five years behind the clubs at the top end in terms of strategy, fitness etc. If we don't have the ex players suitable, then recruit them from outside the club.

It wont be an issue. It is PwC's tax division that is in the firing line. Whilst he was CEO of PwC Australia generally, it wont have implications that far up the chain - it only would if there was criminal charges laid, which i dont think it will go that far.

But nobody likes these gatekeepers!
I dunno...

Don’t agree. At least 50 partners received the confidential info and Sellers was head of tax prior to being ceo. It beggars belief he wasn’t in the loop.

Sayers and Cook are still too new to take too much resposibility. Cook has at least said when he arrived that we are a number of years away and we need to hit the draft and it looks like he is right.

I think there is a bit of pressure to get our assistant coaching up a level. We just hardly ever seem to be able to get people in form good clubs. You never see players coming from premiership teams to start their coaching careers with us. You never see coaches come from teams winning flags. It appears Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond people are off limits to Carlton. Maybe we are on the nose and our reputation as coach sackers is making it hard.

Carlton has not had a really strong coaching group at any time over the last 22 year. 2000 was the last year we had a strong coaching group and look where that got us, top 4.

Ratten and Voss, both being supplied with the same group. Blokes who were at clubs who were underperforming, they became easy to get (I wonder why).

You only have to look at Collingwood the last 23 year. They have had their downs but they never stay down long, they have won a premiership and been in many others, they have a different culture to ours, they certainly aren't trying to win the no dickeads award and they are probably going to win the premiership this year. Every year they slaughter us in the off field department. Every single aspect of their off field area they go out and get top people, they are absolutely killing us and have been for 23 years.

Sayers was on the board for 12 years. Sayers is not new and was part of every major decision. He and any president must assume responsibility for results

Agree with your point about our assistant coaches. They need to be upgraded. Unfortunately the person in charge of reviewing coaching performance and making changes as and when required is our head of football, Brad Lloyd, who has persistently failed at this task.
