We gave Bolts the assistance he needed... until Neil Craig pissed off and they handed the job to Barker.First, hammer right on the head here.
Just quietly, I get a real feeling that Austin and Cook suspected this year might happen. It's not something you ever want to say publicly, especially considering how long we've been waiting already, but just how they're going about it.
Durability is the big one. We hit that in the draft by getting the best endurance runner in the draft range we had. Ollie may never be a superstar but he's a safe 150+ game player (Collison injuries permitting).
In Acres we also got a guy who is durable. Isn't the most skilled player in the team but you can be assured he's going to be there more often than not (Collison injuries permitting).
This isn't bad considering we have half a dozen players who really struggle to get on the park. In fact, despite being critical of Acres inconsistency with his kicking, it's exactly what we needed. I believe we smashed the rest of the draft with a rough Cowan, Binns and the flyer in Lemmey.
Next step in list management is jettisoning those who aren't durable and strengthening it with durable depth and landing two or three super skilful pacy runners who we'd hope would give us a half forward line and a boost elsewhere.
I do believe the list will have a night and day difference to it next year and we'll be thankful Austin went the safe route to begin with to give it a solid footing.
As for Forty3 post regarding differences of opinion with Voss I argue that's where the rumor of Dimma or someone similar coming into assist him will come.
I agree that Voss is vocal and I actually appreciate that. If he's going to fall it'll be doing it his way. Given our past this is a step in the right direction. Now when we stick by him and get him the help that he needs he'll be better positioned to implement the strengths of the assistants in the program.
On Cook, this is a huge positive. Not only does it signify that there is more work to be done to get the club where he wants it to be but it also signifies that he believes that the club will actually get there or has every opportunity to.
If you've ever been in management and knew something wasn't where it should be and had no confidence in it then you'd know how easy it is to walk away especially when you're his age. This screams the opposite. This screams rolling the sleeves up, digging in and doing the hard work that needs to be done.
This is what the club needs.
Fitzy isn't going to lead a ticket, but he would throw his weight behind a ticket if he thought that it would improve the backrooms of the club. And I seriously doubt he would throw his weight behind any ticket that Tom Elliott was pushing.Playing devil's advocate, did you really think Fitzy was going to come out and say the board's in disarray and he wants to lead a ticket?
Now is not the time to invite any of that sort of speculation...

There is nothing that has been stated that remotely points to our Assistant coaches undermining Voss.Mate, it's more of a commentary on how things are being said here, nobody's reputation is being tarnished here, do you think anyone actually takes notice of what people say here? Really? Have you read some of what gets said around here?
Your mail? Fitzy was interviewed and this was shown on most news networks last night talking in depth about the situation and whether he wants to get involved. Everyone who watched it has the actual "mail". Headlines were "Mike Fitzpatrick doesn't rule out being president".My mail is Fitzy is not interested in a board role. Things can change, but thats my mail

Yes.
He has a year and a half left on his contract. How often does a head coach get sacked with that long left on his contract in this sport?
Assistant coaches are also in a very very shit position - they cannot publicly go against the head coaches “line/message” whether they agree with him or not. There is nothing that has been stated that remotely points to our Assistant coaches undermining Voss.
Rumours are routinely created on sites like this which people then take as gospel & frankly, there's no need.
If people want to make things up, there are fanfic sites for that.
Not often at all... however, I wouldn't put it past this board to react that way. If we're heading into the bye after losing the next 3 games and sitting bottom 4 they might make that decision but hold off till end of season.
I literally quoted a post that asked whether it was possible that it was happening. There is nothing that has been stated that remotely points to our Assistant coaches undermining Voss.

Not a criticism here but just on Carlton Respects but rather something I thought was cool actually and commend the club on something positive during this rough run.
As I've posted before my partner works in DV. I found out last week that our Carlton Respects game (and the program itself) is genuinely considered a big event in.that industry - not just a 'cheap PR stunt' or 'social marketing stunt' that many have criticised it to be. It made her organisational newsletter. I haven't read it but she was so impressed by it.
It's not the first time that it's been featured at work and that details of how the program benefits state and national stakeholders is more significant than I (and I'm sure many others who have been critical) assumed.
So, in all seriousness, good work CFC during a time where the on field has been disappointing.
Good.
Cook is the only bloke in the entire organisation who’s a proven winner.
Give him the keys and get the * out of his way!
Yes but the board appoints the people, who are responsible for leadership, list management, coaching and fitness. This board needs to be replaced with more football IQCan't wait for the next board member to improve our disposal
Having a board that pretends they know anything about football is how you end up hiring a disinterested Mick Malthouse to 'chase a flag'.Yes but the board appoints the people, who are responsible for leadership, list management, coaching and fitness. If I recall correctly, Cook started a little earlier to allow him to interview and tick off the Voss appointment and was involved in the reviewing of assistants. I have great faith in the man.True, he's never been a part of that iinm... but at the same time, he didn't really have much influence on who we got. Pretty sure the other times he was much more involved in selection.
Anyway, I hope Voss doesn't get sacked.
Your position that the board is not accountable for appointments is absurd.Ask yourself a couple of questions
If this board remains, what will they do to improve on field output, as in sack, back, hire coaches, list management, fitness staff. And who will they be, and are they willing to come
Or, we replace the board and we still have the same predicament as above
We are hearing Cook wont extend beyond his contract

Cook has expressed to the club that he would like to increase his stay from the original 3 years to 5 at a minimum.
He came to the club after the ‘external review’ took place, which in its findings decided that Lloyd and Liddle were doing a fantastic job, and it was only Teague that was at fault.. (absurd) and only 6 days before Voss was announced as coach. Once the decision making processes were all but done.
It will take time, unfortunately, for Cook to ultimately be able to make the changes and adjustments he wants. To call a for another review within the timeframe he’s been there so far, so soon upon the back of the last would of been impossible.
