Official Club Stuff BREAKING: Luke Sayers steps down effective immediately (Jan 22nd)!

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

It will all come down to whether the Sayers (I know nothing) version of events is able to stand up against the ATO’s (we told him to look into it in 2019) version of events. If the ATOs version can be corroborated, I would suggest Sayers will be in the gun.

Hi Goddess,

Welcome to finals football.

There is a special feeling around our football club.

A feeling that exists not just because we’ve won games, but because of the experiences we have all shared together, as Carlton people this year.

A resilience and commitment to stick together. No matter what. All 95,112 of us.

Thank you for believing, Bluebaggers.

There will come a time to reflect on what this season has given us, and what it means for us moving forward, but not right now.

As Vossy said, the job is not done.

The Swans at the ‘G next Friday night. I already can’t wait for the roar as our players walk up that race.

We go into September with something powerful – an innate belief.

A belief that exists because as Carlton people we know, undoubtedly, that we are Stronger Together.

Stronger Together is what this team, what this club, stands for.

Being united, a good teammate, a proud Carlton person. No matter what challenge is thrown our way, we crack in and give our everything to rise above it.

This is our competitive advantage.

A strong and united Carlton Football Club is a powerful thing.

As members, you are central to our mindset of Stronger Together.

Let’s embrace it and share every experience that comes our way in the weeks ahead.

It all kicks off next Saturday at IKON Park, in what will be a great day for our football club. The Carlton faithful, together as one.

At 9.30am we will have an Open Training session for our AFL side, a great chance to see the coaches and players fine-tune preparations ahead of our Elimination Final, with the players to also hold a signing session after training.

Immediately following AFL Open Training, our AFLW side will take on the Gold Coast in our Round 1 season opener at 1pm.

How fantastic it will be to see a sea of Navy Blue at our home, IKON Park, as our new Senior Coach Mathew Buck, our players, and staff, embark on a new era for our AFLW program. The game will be free for everyone to attend.

I want to take this opportunity as well to give you clarity on key information heading into Week 1 of the finals.

Earlier today, members with game-access entitlements should have received an email from the Club. This email will have all the information you need to purchase finals tickets, including your 12-digit membership barcode and when you will be able to purchase tickets.

Tickets will be on-sale for members this Wednesday at 10am.

If you want to beat the queue, you have the option to buy a finals ticket today by purchasing a ticket to our club member event. This will include a Level 1 ticket to the game and you can come together with fellow members before the team takes the big stage for finals football.
Click here now to buy your ticket.

We want to make access to finals information as easy as possible for you. That is why the Club has created a Finals Hub.

This Finals Hub will be your source for all information you need during the finals series, so keep an eye out as it will be updated daily, when required.

Should you have any further queries that have not been answered in today's emails or in the Finals Hub, please don’t hesitate to contact our membership team.

Embrace it Bluebaggers: we’re September bound.

Whatever comes our way be sure to enjoy the ride together, share it together and every step of the way, let’s be Stronger Together.

Dear Goddess

Truth be told, I did not intend to send this email until next Monday, such was the incredible belief I have in all this football club has become this year.

This week will be tough, there’s no doubt about that.

We set out to achieve a goal and to have that ripped away from us, it hurts.

It hurts because we know that our best is good enough.

As enjoyable and unforgettable as the climb has been for our club, we know this is far from the end game.
We know we have more to give.

Rest assured, we are a hungry football club.

With true disappointment though, comes profound pride.

What we have shared together as Carlton people this year has been powerful.

We have shared experiences as a club that nobody can ever take away from us.

Whether that was a sea of Navy Blue rising as one to lift our side over the line, that incredible Carlton roar I can still hear ringing in my ears, losing our minds at every nail-biting triumph and jumping with family and friends, even hugging total strangers in delirium as we belted out our club song, arm in arm.

Hold on to those moments [redacted]. Those are the memories that you deserve to cherish forever.

I wrote to you back in May asking for one thing, to judge our season once it had reached its end.

While ultimately we did not achieve the goal we set for ourselves, I sincerely hope that now you can be proud of your football club.

That you can walk down the street, or into work, or your kids head off to school well and truly proud to wear the Navy Blue.

The turnaround this season was truly remarkable, however the most important thing was that it was built from something sustainable.

Does what we have achieved this season guarantee us anything for next year? No.

However this football club now has real substance. We know what we stand for.

A club built on its values; Unity, Humility, Respect, Excellence, Integrity and Relentlessness.

These encapsulate what it now means to be a Carlton person, and I want to thank you, our members, for embracing what our football club is striving to become, both on and off the field.

This season threw great adversity at us, and no doubt we will face adversity again throughout next season.

Adversity does not break this football club anymore though.

We grow from it, it makes us who we are and we will continue to embrace whatever the football gods throw our way.

We’ll stay present, stay humble and get back to work in November. We go again in 2024.

Our support now turns wholeheartedly to our AFLW side, who have already shown in the first few rounds those same qualities we have come to love in our AFL team.

Pressure, contest, being a good teammate.

For those who can, I hope to see you down at IKON Park in the second half of the AFLW season.

Above all, I just want to say thank you, for all your support.

We truly are Stronger Together.

Go Blues,

It hurts but I'm proud and will cherish the memories of 2023 with my kids right up until the final siren at Princes Park on Sat. Bring on 2024.

That email... I am also willing to bet that halfway through the season, he thought he wouldn't be writing it and we'd be getting a completely different letter. The fact that finally, all the infighting and destruction caused by a few "so called passionate" powerbrokers is over and the club is finally united again and we are going deep into the business end of the year.

Over the past few years, we have had a bunch of people on the board who started us down this road. MLG... the guy with the balls to say "rebuild". Liddle... who while he did some dodgy backend things, he got supporter engagement up and we are going to push 100k members next year. SOS... for putting the core of the playing group together. And now Sayers... for finally putting a proper review in place that cleaned out the deadwood in the coaching box (some of them he took to with a chainsaw to get them out of the place). For sticking fat with Vossy and telling those calling for everyones head to do one.

He promised us finals last year... we fell just short. He promised us finals this year... and in the end he ****ing delivered in spades.

I love this club.

You’re all lucky that you receive the email from the President and CEO. I just read them vicariously through all of you, because they haven’t included me all year.

I get my email telling me when my membership renews though.

In further news, the Switkowski report on PwC will be out this week. The media gossip is that it exonerates Sayers but implicates PwC global. The additional media gossip is therefore that PwC global have commissioned their own report which skewers Sayers and absolves themselves of any blame.

I guess we will see.

While I am behind him as the president of the club, he had to have known something seriously dodgy was going on at PwC Australia. The partners at PwC Global need a local scapegoat and I suspect that Sayers is going to be the man.

If he didn't know, he should have. Same with PWC global.

Probably similar to the Succession "Death Pit". Senior management actively make sure they don't know about it.

Ignorance is not a defence when you are director of a company, additionally "I did not read the emails" will not cut it in the legal system. Sayers has huge legal hurdles to overcome as ceo of an organisation that sold confidential government information to its client, for profit.

Agreed. That's why you make sure people don't put questionable activity in writing, especially with emails traceability/being backed up

Luke would be like Stringer Bell

Just watched a 7:30 report about Ziggys investigation. Classic mates looking after each other. He mentions the term "CEO" 70 or so times but doesn't mention Sayers by name. It's clear as day that Sayers was the CEO and there are ATO staff testifying that they told Sayers directly about what was happening and they had concerns. Sayers says he doesn't remember those conversations, how convenient.

At some point he will need to stand down from all duties with Carlton and it's clear he will hang on as long as possible.

I for one don't like that our president presided over a corporation that violated non disclosure agreements, lied about it, helped other companies avoid paying their fair share of tax and is now being investigated for criminal conduct. Not to mention the toxic and desperate culture of excessive profit at any cost. It's grubby and this guy now presides over our club. He should go, no question.

Sayers to front Senate inquiry into consulting industry today.

Expect to see lots of apologies about PwC conduct and twinkle-toed denials he knew about the tax leak.

Sayers, who was PwC Australia CEO between 2012 and 2020, will likely be questioned about his knowledge of the tax leaks while head of the firm and about crucial meetings he had with ATO second commissioner Jeremy Hirschhorn regarding the behaviour of the firm’s tax advisers in 2019, and the election of the firm’s new CEO in 2020

Two elected buffoons carrying on as elected buffoons will do - good luck to them and their chest puffery.
What PWC, KPMG and others have done is despicable and as the CEO at the time to now come out with the "don't recall, don't remember" excuse is weak leadership.
