Former Carlton player Anthony Koutoufides is expected to formally launch his candidacy in the coming federal election this weekend.

Koutoufides, who played 300 games for Carlton from 1992 to 2007, will run as an independent in the federal seat of Melbourne.

I don't like the idea of Priestly becoming President from Sydney.
a) it puts enormous time pressure on an individual, when its already a volunteer unpaid job that has all the time commitment of a full time roll

b) These senior positions require club access to be performed to the highest level. He will be relying on what he is told rather than what he sees, touches and smells

I’d support Fitzpatrick as he has all the right qualifications and connections- but he has never (publicly) expressed great enthusiasm for wanting the job, I am not sure what is going on behind the scenes however, but if Fitzpatrick was parachuted into the position I wouldn’t have a problem with it and would support him. But I would like for him to say publicly that he would like to do it.

Whelan is a great operator and passionate Carlton man. he turned around ANZ's noose in to a very good business through good old cost management and focus.

He's just been bypassed for the ANZ CEO gig where they went external. He might be looking up options - he's in his 60's but you wouldn't know by listening to him or looking at him, looks early 50's and has energy levels like you wouldn't believe.

CFC would love to have him I think but perhaps only after he moves from ANZ (irrespective of the ANZ v NAB conflict you raise)

Alan Bond was probably the worst president of any club of all time. The Tigers were practically broke and thought that he'd bail them out.

Instead his plan was to get them to play 11 away games in Brisbane, list the club on the stock exchange and try and get the club to sell his beer exclusively at games. As you'd imagine it didn't end well.

History went on to show how poor a business man he was.
