Brent Reilly - where is he at?

So what do we make of tonights game?

I personally don't think he was much chop. 20 touches, not many contested, 65% efficiency. Another meh game.

he was slow to make decisions, rather than necessarily making bad decisions.

he was otherwise fairly anonymous, I wonder if he just needs to a couple of games to get up to the speed of the game and make faster, more natural/instinctive type decisions?

Two differeny Reaillys played last night. In the first half it was like the Reilly of pre-2005 had surfaced and he looked very tentative. In the 2nd half he wax throwing his body in where angels fear to tread.:thumbsu: I think he needs to play another 4-5 games before we can really tell where he's at.

I thought he looked much better in the second half where he was moved into the midfield for all of 20 minutes or so. Definitely looks more comfortable there, but with gaps in our defence he's having to play back there which is a shame.

The tap on to Walker when he hit the post was sublime. One of the hardest things I've seen a Crow do for a fair while:thumbsu:

Also agree, he doesn't look much a defender. But I suppose the other blokes waiting in the wings such as Shirley, Cook and Jacky aren't.

Think Symes needs to come back to play on that half back flank tbh.

I'm happy to give him some more games to find his feet.

I think that's realistic. We shall revisit this thread after round 6 or so.

Wow really?
I thought Reilly was superb in the last quarter, but I wasn't happy with his game up until then. Whilst he wasn't alone, his field kicking was woeful when we were playing against the wind. He took a long time to adjust to the conditions, sent a couple of balls out on the full in the third. Whilst Stevens, Johncock and Rutten all also had similar problems, I guess I expect more from Brent given the quality of his kicking. Perhaps that's wrong of me.
Made a couple of absolutely top not passes in the 4th to Thompson though.
A solid game all up, and probably his best of the season, but am surprised to see him getting so many votes in our PotY.

His second half was great. There were a couple of times in the 3rd when i thought 'he's back'. His fourth was great. He used the ball well off half back.

I believe he played on Tarrant for most of the game, who he kept pretty quiet, so the defensive side of his game was pretty pleasing :thumbsu:

He still hasnt convinced me. Im not sure who Id like to see dropped for when knights comes back, but if it was between reilly and symes Id like to see reilly dropped.

Reilly AND Symes were both in out best yesterday though.

I'd say Petrenko would be the unlucky one to miss out if the decision was to be made right now. Given our run with injuries however, i'd say the choice will more than likely be taken out of the match committee's hands.

Well unfortunately talls are where we're running low on numbers, and there's a log jam for midfield spots.

You have Griffin (who I want to come in for Gill, regardless of injuries) who will allow Kurt to play permanant forward. You have Moran, who i'd like to see more urgency about him, but appears to be doing it easy at SANFL. You also have everyones fav, Big Jim, who sounds like he had a very good game in the SANFL 2 weeks ago and is obviously on the fringe or close.

He's playing a more defensive role than in previous years, and doing fine. Blokes like Vince, Mackay, Ven Berlo and Dangerfield have taken over the "run and carry" role that he had early on.

Round 6 has been and gone.

Personally I think he has still been very ordinary, frustrated me to no end last night.

Just makes too many fundamental errors. Spent ages fumbling the ball last night too.

Past couple of years I fave been frustrated by Reily mainly because he has not been hard enough at the contest. However this seaon and last night I thought he was good. Seems to look upfield more than some, and does not seem to sell his team mates into troible with poor habdballs.

Was actually quite impressed with his performance last night, didn't see a lot of it early because he was up forward I think, but when he moved further up the ground I thought he was really composed and looked to use the ball well, really starting to work his way into the season well IMHO.

Said well, I agree :thumbsu:

Yes, was certainly one of our better players last night.
