I take it all back Rafa, your tactics were boring but at least we never got stuffed the entire game like this. Save us Rafa. :thumbsu:

Hodgson, honestly, mental problems? Goes away to a team that's spent 130m GBP in this transfer window alone, and plays a flat 4 across midfield against a top class 3 man midfield - before proceeding to go down three goals after being royally rooted all game, and makes the first change with 12 minutes to go? WTF.

GTFO Roy.

Very funny bus.

Honestly - he must've had money on 3-0 City.

What kind of manager sits there and watches his team get ****ing reamed the entire game and does nothing until 80 minutes, when his team is 3-0 down?

A shit one.

One bad game and your already off the bandwagon?

Wouldnt take much from that game to be honest.

Premature thread.

I'm angry too but come on it's just the second game..

Give Roy at least until mid season before you start ripping into him..

Thats good old roy for you..dont expect it to change...

I miss Benitez' attacking gameplans and pro-active substitutions. He would have brought Babel on in the 60th minute.

I also miss his post-match interviews where he points out how we were unlucky not to score from 0 attempts on goal.

The sad thing is, most of the anti-rafa, pro-english brigade will continually ignore hodgson's inadequacy compared to rafa and accept poor results and performances, because roy is english. I know the people. and there are a lot like that. it's all those foreigners! it's all their fault!

jamie and stevie are untouchable!!

(and the goals are really flowing, aren't they?)

I miss Rafa. He is a world class manager who had one poor season.
thanks largely to stevie me and torres injury problems.

QFT.

Couldn't have put it any better myself. Rafa was the scapegoat, and the Liverpool fans that wanted him sacked should be ashamed.

They'll get what's coming to them this season when they miss Europe altogether.

Never laughed so hard at a thread title. Knew who the poster would be aswell.

I'd back us to win more home games than we lose, a 4-4-2 away from home isn't the worst option again the poorer teams in the league, but not against the top teams.

It's just suicide - losing Cole obviously hurt his gameplan, but then again, he could have easily pushed Gerrard a bit further up the pitch to play off Ngog, having Lucas and Poulsen sitting in front of the back 4.

AND FFS, STOP PLAYING AGGER AT LB!

Roy needs to realise that this isn't Fulham and that we are expected to perform away from home.

If Agger doesn't play at LB he won't be in the team. Hodgson obviously prefers Skrtel to him - and well, Carragher getting dropped isn't going to happen.

You're always going to get killed playing 4 in midfield against 5 though, which is why a 4-5-1 played in the right way can be so effective.

Roy Hodgson was a bad appointment for Liverpool. He's far too tactically inept - a bit like Mark Hughes really. You don't have to be good tactically when managing smaller teams because all of the goals are scored on the counter attack.

Both very good managers for teams like Fulham/Blackburn/Bolton, however they're going to struggle at the bigger clubs with expectations.

That's fine, play a LB at LB, like Aurelio, or even a kid like Danny Wilson, it's obvious Agger is not comfortable out there and isn't playing well.

This is true, we were murdered in midfield because we couldn't get the ball - when they had it, they had free players on either flank because they outnumbered us and had pace on the flanks. Unlike Liverpool.

Another good point you make - he'll struggle when we're behind and chasing the game/drawing and needing to win, because he doesn't have the tactical ability to make formation changes and the right subs - it's not as if he can bring a world class player off the bench who can change the game on his own.

Continued on from previous quote - the expectations are to win - he tried to be positive by going with a 4-4-2 away from home, but it backfired, we were outplayed in the first half and he did nothing to change it. Which is why we continued to get pumped in the 2nd half - I'll give him a few more away games to see how he combats what happened at Eastlands.

His had absolutely no chance to settle into the club, given his first two games against City and Arsenal. Think its very harsh people are already on his back saying ' he cant manage Liverpool ' etc.

Think you've got to give the guy a chance, I think if we qualify for the Europa that he has the ability to take us very far in that competition, and with 2-3 new signings before the window closes we could be a real crack at that top 4 spot.

Definitively played the wrong formation, we all know that, he'd know that, but playing City away with one of your best creative players(something we lack) is never really easy

I
Roy Hodgson was a bad appointment for Liverpool.

Who would have been a good choice, though? considering the financial situation they're in and it's not like they have lots of quality in their squad.

Though, Roy definitely made a mistake with the team selection.

The right choice was to not sack Rafa to start with.

Just on that, everyone talks about it but they sure have spent a lot of money this window for a team with no money.

Brad Jone 2.3m
Christian Poulsen 4.5m*
Danny Wilson 2m
Jonjo Shelvey 1.7m
Cole and Jovanovic I'm sure had hefty sign on fees.
Of course Roy would be on a fair pay packet and did they need to pay Fulham to get him?

They have got back about 10m through Riera and Yossi.

*Undisclosed but amount I've seen floating about.

True but which top-class manager would have been happy to take over Liverpool knowing that they lack the quality to compete for the top 4 and he'll have to make do with shabby amount transfers and free agents to inject quality in the squad? when it's clear about the sort of quality they require..

That's what I was referring to. Roy's doing the best he can with what he has to work with, wouldn't you agree?
