I was thinking the other week about the torp and wondered if kicking a goal with a torp could be rewarded with the goal kicking side being given possession of the ball at the next centre bounce. None of this 9 pointer rubbish.

At this time of year we need some skulduggery.... think Mercantile Mutual Cup prize for a 6... bring back a prize pool for the barrel and other stats during the season.... I want a prize for a falcon also!

N.B I'm drunk

Bringing back the torps would certainly sort out the real players from the mere athletes. Goals from 65m, defenders being caught out of position, kicking OVER the zones. Great kicking certainly makes the game a better spectacle. Anyone can hit a 20m drop punt to an outside player. Real players that can KICK are a valuable commodity.

Timing was the key and a taught instep! (Bruce Andrew)
Torps at suburban grounds can go nuclear with the wind, i kicked one once that went over 100mtrs i shit you not with a hurricane force wind at my back, just slapped off the boot (didn't feel good at all) but it got altitude and it just went! Kicked it from the back flank-wing and hit the goal square.

So Blighty's got nothing on you Frank! Not even Jeff Fehring's went 100m!! Kudos to a torp master.

No grandstands at the grounds i played on mate, makes a massive difference, TBH i hit some sweet barrels with similar wind conditions that didn't go anywhere near as far, this was a once in a lifetime kick, not sure if there was a mini tornado that thrust it so far or not, but i'm telling the truth.

In this post-truth world, I have absolutely no doubt that your torp went at least 100 metres with the help of a freak weather event.

I'm not bragging, as i said it slapped off the boot, if i could've recalled it a second after impact i would've, just felt wrong, but i'm guessing the spiral rotation coupled with the height and an almighty 140kh gust of wind made it happen, i often wonder wbat would've happened if i actually hit it sweet lol.

Kicking down a hill doesn't count :D

But nothing like a big torpedo

I've also kicked the biggest drop punt i could muster and been in the marking contest when it landed lol, similar wind only kicking against it.

You just don't see conditions like that at the higher grades.

No you don't.

There's even tell, in the old old days, like from late 1800s, Albert Thurgood, the Essendon great kicked a monster thought to be at 80 yards or was it meters? But a big kick.

I remember as a kid when you watched the football, if it rained the grounds would become mud paddocks. Half the time you couldn't make out which jumper the players were wearing because they were covered in mud.

I actually miss that.

You torp fans should be watching The Front Bar on Thursday nights. It has a whole segment dedicated to the torpedo, at AFL and local footy level. People send in videos.

And a prize to be awarded - weekly? annually? I've lost track - for the torp of the year. Actually a ridiculous looking trophy. But fun.:D

Climate change is real.
