i like brown but not a 5 year player, battered body worries me

We fell 3 games short of top 4 this year.

Essendon X2
Adelaide X2
Richmond
Sydney

All games we could/should have won, and if we did we'd be 3rd on the ladder.

Of the top 8 this year, Sydney, North, Adelaide and the Doggies have aging stars carrying them and wouldn't have enough as much improvement/development to come in the pre-season. Collingwood tend to get more out of their young players earlier but they plateau earlier too and St Kilda's core of stars have been plateaued for a few seasons now and they've made an artform out of generating mediocre seasons out of such a talented list and will continue this for another few years before accepting that their window came and went.

All the various reasons why we will be so much better in '09 is another (many) thread in and of its own, suffice to say Carlton should be the biggest improvers in '09 followed by Richmond and I wouldn't put it past us to overtake the aforementioned 6 clubs in '09.

We'll definitely be in the "middle" 8 of the ladder. Don't think we're gonna be top 4, we're definitely not bottom 4. Finals would be the realistic goal next year.

And while it's exciting to ponder new draftees or big trades, most of the team's improvement over the next few will be the maturing of our young team and spending more time playing together. It will take time, but we're DEFINITELY going the right way.

We only beat two of the top eight sides all year. The Pies; both good wins. The Dogs; a very lucky win.

Take away that win against the Dogs and our season looks a lot worse. I really think next we will finish outside the 8.

We need some serious recruiting to improve from here. We need to become competitive against the Hawks and the Cats, which we are a very long way from doing. The other top 8 sides can at least get close to the Hawks. To my mind, we are lacking big bodies and a game plan that is effective against the rolling zones used by the best teams. The game plan we can fix, but the bodies take years to develop.

Adelaide will not finish in the top 4 next year. Neither will the Pies, Roos and Swans. Carlton have a good chance but 7th or 8th is more realilistic.

Well personally i dont think we win make the top 4 but in any case based on this year as it was so even from 4th to 10th anything could hav possible this year. But how many times has this sort of ladder been seen?

Next year is so far away, way too early for any realistic judgement on most teams!

We Still have alot of dead wood to get rid off!! So until we get rid of them we wont make top 4. But we should make it in the finals or else 09 will be a failure! Theirs a big gap between our A graders and B graders!

Exactly Faz, I didn't vote because there wasn't a choice for 6-10, probably more on the mark IMO. Would be disappointed to make the 8 next year but stranger things have happened.
