If you barrack for Essendon and are under 25 years of age,do you use the nickname 'Dons' when yelling at the footy? Is it going out of style or something in this modern era of new Essendon fans?

These days, "Go Bombers" seems to have replaced "C'arn the Dons" as our favourite way to cheer on our beloved team. Is it just us old coots who are over 30 that now only use the term?

I'm sending out a message to all you young Dons to "Bring back the DON!" (still keep the Bombers of course) and pass it on to the really young Bomber supporters who might not have heard one of our famous nicknames that dates back well over 100 years.

i vary between the two.
i normally refer to them as the bombers but when i watch them sometimes i call them the dons.
the bombers just sounds better :p
haha but i do use both.

certainly of that ilk.

It was always the "dons" at windy hill. And as a kid every home saturday my old man and i would walk up Napier street and I can still remember the smallgoods logo everywhere.

The sponsor helped, but i had no idea what smallgoods were back then.

Well at the tender age of 26 apparently i'm an old coot so I think I will stick with the "Bombers" to hold onto my youth as well as playing teenage dirtbag endlessly.

I'm 26 & it's a bit each way for me.... but I'll never drop 'Dons' from my lingo.

I've still got a big "Well Don" flag/sign/banner (what do you call a flag on two sticks?) that was handed down to me that I used to take as a kid... and one day hope to pass on to my children, so the terminology should be safe in their hands.

i used to when i was younger, but almost never say it now. its normally go bombers for me. i'm now 25

i go to the footy with my old man who is in his mid fifties. he says it lots.

being an old geeza....(31!)...the eaisiest thing to say is:

Go Dons!

Only two small words!

Who can be bothered saying 'carn the bombers' which is three words and double the number of syllables!!

In fact in a year or two when I get really towards the hills i'll just say 'Dons'..

and a few more years down the track ill just raise my eyebrow

Same here. I'm fairly young and fairly vocal, so it just depends on what comes to my mind during a game.

I still don't know what they are! :p
