I know people would be sick of people starting threads with these two being involved, but lets see who you would rather at your club. A young Murphy who looks to have the goods, or a Brock Mclean who has proven he will be a solid contributor for many years to come for the Dees.

So it's pretty much this,

Would you rather a POTENTIAL champion and leader in Murphy, or a player like Mclean who will be a very good, hard nut for years to come.

Honest opinions only, try not to be too biased.

Yep there is no way Brock is a potential champion.
Oh and it's biased.

Opinion is a wonderful thing isn't it.. have a go at using yours or somethin, Brock is a very good player but he doesn't really scream "leader" to me, Murphy has it over him there I would think.

You ask people not to be biased, when it's exactly what you're being.

You should keep your thoughts to yourself....nneerrrd. :) :thumbsu:

Oh really, bugger, I wasn't aware starting a poll on BF made me a nerd... Murphy has more leadership potential than Mclean by a mile, I won't be the only one who agree's champ.

The only reason you poked your little head in is that you are a Melbourne supporter, and you are calling me biased? Top work.

Your post is rather funny. You state that you want honest and unbiased opinions yet your OP reeks of bias. In the same breath you laud Murhpy as a POTENTIAL champion and you degrade an already established midfielder in Brock McLean as a 'hard nut' a 'solid contributor' and you make it clear to everyone that this is the case no arguments with your "So it's pretty much this" statement.

How does Murphy have more leadership than Brock? Mind you it isn't that hard to be a leader at Carlton, all you have to do is stay out of jail for a night or two. McLean is already in a leadership group consisting of stars such as Neitz, Robertson, Bruce et al (correct me here Melbourne supporters) and is being mooted by pretty much everyone involved with Melbourne to be the next MFC captain. The only reason why Murphy is being considered captain is because you have no leaders at your rabble of a club.

If McLean can have another excellent year this year, Melbourne would be stupid not to give him the captaincy after Neitz retires. The guy just oozes leadership and at just 20-21 is already the hardest midfielder in the game.

Why don't you (and Carlton supporters in general) actually just realise that there are young players out there that are BETTER than your young players, is it that hard? You heap so much praise on your kids and they have barely got the runs on the board. Take a moment and think, if Brock was on your list would the answer be different? In my mind I know you Carlton supporters would laud him as the next Greg Williams

1.Murphy hasnt even reached pubity yet
2.Compare him to brock in another 2 seasons IF he can be a ball magnet
3.every player who goes through the draft has leadership potential
4.Personally i think murphy will be a reciever to soft to go and get it himself.

I would prefer McLean on what I've seen so far. Murphy could be very good, but McLean is already. He's a very safe bet.

1.) Maybe, but at least he can spell it

2.) Watch all of his games especially vs Brisbane when he gets injured, yep he's mighty soft:rolleyes:

Brock McLean - solid midfielder who finds the ball well but lacks leg speed. Carlton has one of these, his name is Adam Bentick. Will be a great player and possible leader for the Dees for the duration of his career however, the need for more and more legs speed in today's game may lessen his impact in the future.

Marc Murphy - midfielder who finds the ball with ease and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Has a little more finesse and composure than most, however there are question marks over his kicking at times. Will be a dominant midfielder for the next 10 years.

Murphy for me, but I would not be dissappointed with McLean at all.

What are you basing this on. Do you go to Melbourne training?? My objective opinion would be that he does have leadership potential on and off the field
- look at his performances to date on field... particularly the final against the Saints last year
- does well in interviews and is apparently highly regarded by his team mates

btw he will be a better player than Murphy. He has better skills and is not a midget

I'm not being biased, it is called honesty, I simply don't think Brock will be as good as Murph, that's my opinion, and I am noticing by the poll results thus far that some agree and some don't. So settle down little man...

Hard one TBH.

Both different players.

Murphy is a class act who will gurantee 25 touches a game at a minimum.

Mclean is a ruthless hard nut who has "Captain inspirational" written all over him.

I select McLean only on the basis that he's now a proven finals player (unlike Yze & Davey) and we can trust in him for future September performances.

Murphy will be a special talent and Carlton are lucky to have him.

Brock is a very good player but he doesn't really scream "leader" to me, Murphy has it over him there I would think.

I went for Brock because he has shown that he will be a very good player. Murphy hasn't (yet). A high draft pick is no guarantee, so I will take what has been proven, considering Brock is still very young himself.

Regardless of whether McLean turns out to be a champion, or just a very good player, I think he is just the type of person who screams "Leader". Murphy may be too, but hasn't shown that ability yet.

He has better skills
Yes, we all know Marc can't kick with both feet.

Great post, the one thing McLean has over all our other youngsters is his leadership qualities, it's also the same thing the club saw in him as a junior. In fact if you talk to anyone who had anything to do with him as a kid the first thing you'll hear was his fierce determination and leadership qualities.

I know this is just another carlton trolling thread but it's funny when they completely ******** up like this.

look at the first youtube video. you can see on the replay that murphys goal on the left was a shank that happened to go through.
