I find it difficult to believe the Brownlow is actually worth anything when you consider some of the voting decisions by the umpires.
The most talked-about wrong decision was of course the whole James Hird vs Umpiring, where he didn't poll a vote in a match that seemed to be one of the best games the Brownlow winner had played.

Nobody seems to have remembered that:
Rd 19, James Bartel, polled three votes, best and fairest on ground according to the umpires, yet they thought he played "dirty" enough to report him. Twice! Insane.

I thought Peter Riccardi was also lucky to get some of the votes that he did, as an afterthought.

Poor old Cameron Ling, I really thought he would be up there somewhere.

Just goes to show that Geelong doesn't rely on any one key player! Well, that's my excuse anyway.

We had nineteen players poll votes, the most of any team in the AFL. That speaks volumes I reckon; it's sure better than having ten players pole votes, with one being an out and out standout!
