Dont think you would get much change from $150.

I paid $100 for yellow one in 06, it's fair bit of money given that they usually wear out in a season or 2 even only kicked on grass. Anyone ever own a white one? Friend did, good for kicking at dusk but wore out very quickly.

Did you even read the rest of the post where cos789 explained the Burley was softer? As for size, game day balls are measured to ensure they are the same dimensions on both the east and west coast.

You need to learn two things; how to read and civility. cos789 did NOT explain the "Burley was softer" he stated, verbatim, that it was "more subtle and easier to kick".

The White and Yellow Footys don't last anywhere near as long Burleys are the same,if they get wet they deteriorate a lot quicker unless you dry them out ASAP.

Yeah, only reason I got a yellow was that we spent a lot of time kicking the ball at dusk after work.

Having played for years and having trained with Burleys and played with Sherrins (Burleys are cheaper and more economical for junior clubs, but the association required Sherrins used on gameday) there are subtle differences. But I have no idea how to explain it. When I look at the ball I can't tell but when it's in the hand I can

What I have found though is that Burley's are easier to mark, can hit massive handballs and can be floaters at times.
Sherrins are tougher to mark, hurt the hands sometime handballing the ball but the kicks are more often to be pinpoint.

If I were a KPF (Which I am) or defender* I'd prefer a Burley
if I were a crumbing forward or midfielder plus the kickin specialist I'd prefer a Sherrin

*Excluding kick-in specialist.

I've used both and there's very little difference imo.
The Burley seems lighter and nicer to mark, not as good to kick, but not by that much.
I've had both over the years, in yellow and red. Some of them I really liked, some not so much. My last Sherrin was not nice to mark and I just couldn't seem to get as many good kicks out of it as I could with my previous Sherrin.

I had a few Chessons over the years. They were very nice, unfortunately Burely ended up consigning the Chesson brand to their cheaper and crappier balls, 25 dollar jobs that turned into soccer balls over a few weeks of kicking.

I remember as kids in the 80s playing junior footy you would use your clubs ball and then swap to the oppositions each quarter. We used Burleys but some of the other clubs used the horriblely light Kookaburras. If you were kicking them suckers into the wind it was impossible as they would be floaters. Conversely the wind would take them a mile. Three goal breeze turns into a 6 goal breeze ha ha.
Never saw Sherrins here as kids it was all about Burleys.
On a side note I've still got my SS Jumbo cricket bat with all the electrical tape you "needed" around the base. The good old days.

This is the same to me as asking whether Low tar or normal smokes will be better? Both will kill you and are shit for you.

Is the AFL sponsored by Sherrin??
Do they receive a large discount on purchasing the balls??

Possible they could look into using Burley/Faulkner if they were offered a good deal.

On topic, i prefer Burley over Sherrin. Cannot stand Lyrebird!

To keep it short; Burley's IMO are s**t.
Burley sponsors the VCFL and I use a Burley every week and the yellow ones in particular are terrible. They don't even compare to the mighty Sherrin.

That is my impression as well, especially white balls and especially in the wet and I'd say that would be
due to the process of making them white.
.

Sherrins are so much better IMO.

The leauge i play in has changed logo and name and also ball this year. First time ive used a burley for an actual match and it is that much worse! Seems to be a little bit wider and fatter which makes it alot harder to pinpoint pass. Easier to handball as the bottom is a little bit rounder and not as hard. All the boys in the team prefer the Sherrin

I can't believe this is even being discussed, if we were talking chicks it would be like comparing Miranda Kerr and Magda Szubanski

Complete and utter rubbish. I grew up with a Burley. I have owned many of each. In fact I have a Burley and a Sherrin in my garage. They are different. Always have been.

The burley is rounder and softer. The Sherrin is thinner and harder. Playing with a Burley barefoot was great when I was a kid. Not so with a Sherrin.

IMO the Sherrin is a better footy.

The Burley footy seems similar to the Faulkner Ball which I used in the 70's and 80's.

Sherrin footballs were not even heard of in WA until the mid 80's when we saw then on TV, the Chesson and then Burley have been the ball of choice since then.
It is much much cooler to say the Sherrin is the best ball at the moment because that is what the AFL use. Do the people that say it have any idea really? Probably not but it sounds good on a BF forum.
For what its worth i have used both and there is little difference, personal preference is a Burley but for no particular reason. Last I looked the SANFL and WAFL use Burley's so they can't be that bad.
If Burley offer the AFL the right money they will be the AFL ball of choice also.

FFS a footy is a footy, you either can kick it or you can't.

I've played with both and there is a big difference.

Burleys seem lighter, bigger and more rounded on the ends. They are better in the wet but not so great when they go high, especially with a breeze.

Sherrins seems to be smaller, pointier and heavier. I just guess because I was brought up on them I preffered them. Sherrins tend to expand and roudn out more when kicked a fair but but Burleys tend to maintain their shape.

I guess it is what you are used to, if you switch you won't like it and you do have to get used to it a bit if you do switch.

I was always happy when a sherrin was used in my games. Much easier to kick and control imo.

Burleys do have good durability and are cheaper which is why juniors here usually use them.

Before people pass judgement, they need to know whether the balls they are comparing are actually comparable ... i.e. the top of the line from both and with the same amount of wear/age. What about the inflation pressure? Maybe people bagging Burleys are using a less than optimal Burley (i.e. not the Premier)? Or have shit skills.

I do know that the Sherrins and Burleys I have owned were indeed different. I preferred the Sherrin slightly, but I can't be sure if it was an apples vs apples comparison. Regardless, both seemed OK to me and I had no problem kicking either. This is going back many years for the Burley, so the footys might have changed with time.

My thoughts exactly. The Burley is harder to kick a drop punt because it is too rounded and the ball skids off the side of the boot way too frequently. You dont get the ball spinning backwards with a Burley when you do a drop punt as well you would with a Sherrin. If AFL players used a Sherrin the inaccuracy for goal would be even worse. And yeah the Burleys are horrible in the wet. Might as well play with a heavy soccer ball.

Now you mention it Miranda's face is shaped a bit like a Burley.
