I absolutely love butch. He's a crowd favourite. I hope with a second full pre season under his belt his kicking for goal comes good because the other aspects of his game are fantastic.

What happened to "he's a spud" and "you don't sign a player based on one game"
They weren't my actual opinions. I was using it as a way to explain that no matter who you are, you aren't guaranteed a contract after one game.

Sorry should've been more clear in my argument.

Our kicking is poor. We lost a prelim final and a spot in the grand final in part to poor kicking. We returned in 2015 with poorer kicking. If we excuse Butcher by keeping him on the list then is it any wonder why several of our first 22 stretch the acceptable limits of poor kicking?

Butcher is not that bad of a player. I'm a supporter of Butcher but for his other attributes, not his kicking. When he has a game and puts it together with his kicking I know it is not a permanent change, I'm just relieved he got it right. I've watched him play lots of games. However I believe you can't have a specialist afl forward that has such a poor kick like he does.

It will not surprise me if he makes every sports show this week and gets ridiculed.

It appears likely, judging by Hinkley's presser that we'll keep Butcher for 2016.
Fattening him for sale, Kenny is rat cunning

General consensus seems to be that he can kick, but his problem is mental when in front of the sticks. I think that he'd have a better chance at achieving a consistent spot in the team if his problem was the other way around. Fixing a headset is something that might be impossible, but I'm happy to see us keep trying. Also a sign that the team is in fairly decent shape if we're able to call a man that can't kick a "cult hero". Imagine a player with his current form playing for Brisbane or Carlton right now. De-list and get a new kid in without question.

He's had two full pre-seasons already.

Why is it that a player with his serious deficiency is a crowd favourite?

Pafc66 version 2.0 arrives. Production line in full swing after a win.

I think our list needs another injection of players.

6 to 7 years of having a mental problem for kicking and the reported work he does on it for the same result that he showed in his first year.

It is a Butcher thread, not the Freo game review thread. I've been a Butcher supporter at the Magpies for a long time. He's improved many aspects of his game over this time and believe he's a reason for us winning sanfl games. So what's your beef?

To say I want to throw any Port supporter heckling one of our own players kicking for goal down the stairs is an understatement when it comes to what Butch cops.

Some fat old khent behind me was yelling "quick handball it! handball it" every time he lined up. When he kicked the goal after that massive mark he loudly spat, "about time".

It's like, FOD.

You can't even crack a fat without chemical assistance and you're getting stuck into a guy who stayed loyal when the club was a gigantic shambles and has been cruelled by injury? What manner of eloite shithead actively wills one of our players to fail?

I love the Butch, but how has someone not corrected his kicking style already??

It's worse when the people behind you say these things in their jockey voices. Drives me nuts.

Norwood supporters lol. I say old chap your kicking is a bit wayward. Oh Butcher old man you kick like Keats writes penambic meter. Jonathon, that kick was the antithesis of the calculus of a negative differential. Chewy on your boot Johnny. I say old man that was a bit rough, hardly called for. Sorry chums I don't know what came over me.

I guess he'll be confused.
Yeah, but two whats? could make it right.

That's the million dollar question that the club doesn't seem to be able to answer. Get ****ing Ben Parkins, Tredders, whoever down to Alberton in the off-season to help him out, because what he's been doing for the last few years hasn't been working.

We should literally contact some amatuer league coach to teach him the basics of kicking in an extremely basic way. If we can get him kicking like a sunday warrior, we're golden.

He doesn't have a consistent approach. I've seen him at Alberton bend right over to keep the ball close to his feet with his arms stretched downward, and a long walk up - the result has been good straight thumps of goals or decent misses. However he just doesn't have the same routine from one week to the next. Once he stuffs up a kick he often resorts to avoiding the set shot if possible. Just like we saw today when he snapped at the goals from a side step rather than take a straight on set shot. It would be difficult to believe the club hasn't brought in some specialists to help his technique over his 6 years.

I personally think a majority of the crowd are laughing and taking the piss rather than actually being excited when he lines up. I think it will wear extremely thin when he is missing goals when the game is on the line. Will very quickly become very hated. I saw people calling for the ball in the crowd that were 90 degrees from where he was shooting. Also saw a couple bowing down to him taking the absolute piss. I think you guys are reading the crowd wrong but I could be wrong as well.
