I am now about to start searching for a new used car, since my last one was written off. I need a car as my job is a pizza delivery driver, and because i will need it when i am working in Albany for 2 months later this year/early next year so dont bother telling me i dont need one(if it wasnt for these 2 reasons i would strongly consider not having one but still prefer to have one and limit its use). I live in Perth so mostly am asking people residing in Perth for help. I was wondering where are some places i can go for cars. I have approx $2000 to spend and most car dealerships dont really sell cars for this price. What are some Perth auction places? Some cheap car dealerships, or do you know of anyone looking to sell a car for about this price. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i want a good quality car for its price, not some lemon. Cheers:)

Don't think you'll get too much for $2000! But for $3,900 you can have a Barina......heater doesn't work, but everything else is fine now that it's just had it's head gasket thing fixed.....:)

3 cars im looking at in the next week, anyone got any opinions/pointers?

My mother drives an 86 5 speed laser. They are very reliable cars. My mothers never breaks down. She claims they have a mazda engine in them, which makes them so reliable.

Another factor may be rego. Remember you'll be up for around $500 for that plus insurance so it's better to look for something that has close to 12 months on it.

i can afford rego/insurance through refunds from my written off car but i cant afford to car shop for 2-3-4 more weeks, ive already not worked for 2 weeks (which ill get loss of income for), 2-3 more weeks would pay rego anyway so missing 2-3 weeks to find a car with 12 months is as cost effective as not being so picky and just paying rego if need be. All i am making sure is i dont get a lemon. Damn i wish i knew more about cars:(

Well i went car shopping today. After test driving a couple of cars and giving them a very close inspection ie external body, oil check, checked for noises on test run, made sure all buttons worked, all doors locked and all windows opened etc i ended up signing a contract of Sale for a 1990 KF Ford Laser GL, normally $2999 but this week on special for $1999. Quite happy with it too:) Should pay the rest off and pick it up in about 1-2 weeks YAY.

well ive been told quite the contrary about ford lasers, ive been told they are quite reliable and arent as prone to things like that as other small cars. Lasers, Mazda 626's and Pulsars from late 80's im told are usually pretty good. All oldish cars will have problems with things like radiators etc, no matter what car i got theres always that risk with a 2000 dollar car that it'll have issues. Thanks for advice though anyway:)
