Monash will defeat MHSOB for the second time this year. After an ordinary run of injuries Monash have 11 senior players back this week. Pleased to hear from the medical staff that key players have recovered as follows: 2 broken legs, 2 recoveries from terminal diseases, 1 back from the dead, 1 from heartbreak, 2 from ingrown toenails, 1 from leprosy, 1 from extremely acute conjunctivitis and 1 abducted by aliens. A few of the boys might be a little underdone but THIS IS MONASH.
In other games it is equally easy:
Maz
Ajaz
Rupz
Wez

Trev is back and I know I have been missed.....
Good luck to all.

Stay calm there Big Trev you're about to pop a valve. There's only one man that the ashes need to get back on the park...G.Smyth. In the best handful of players in the comp (controversial call given that 25 odd werribee players are in the top 25 according to some around here!) and vital to his sides chances.

Les tips:
Nods at home
Rupo at home
Ashes at home (have a good record vs the high at the Frearson)
Jackas easy
Bees easy

Time for some finalists to stand up. If ormond can win tomorrow I will lock them in for a finals spot.

WHAT THE FRIG DID I JUST WITNESS?

Tigers couldnt hit the side of a barn door. Looked disinterested and as if they thought it would just happen.

Very disappointing indeed.

A pretty satisfying day yesterday at GBO as a fair amount of tactical preparation went into the game. We figured the Bees were probably in a bit of a funk (if you can call it that when you've been smashing most sides all season) after they only won against MHSOB by 6 goals at home.

Our annoying draw against Monash in what was a very intense and high standard affair, combined with our recent improved form, aside from the Rupo debacle, had us feeling we were playing well enough to cause an upset.

Having said that, the Bees' goal kicking was ordinary and they certainly had enough chances to win the game. To their credit, they cut the three quarter time 35 point margin back slowly throughout the tense last term, and we were hanging on for grim life.

Spoke to a couple of their guys (and kudos to the Tigers for all coming back for a beer too, as they would be understandably a bit cranky) who said the feeling had been a touch flat for about a month. No doubt this is the loss they had to have, and whilst I sincerely hope my old mates at Fitzroy can do the job against them at Soldiers next week to keep things really interesting, I'd be surprised if Werribee lose another one for the rest of the year.

Most interestingly, despite causeing the upset of the season, we only move up from 10th to 9th! Yet are still only 1 1/2 wins of 3rd spot. Last years' Premier B ladder was supposedly the most ridiculously close in recent VAFA memory. I reckon Premier C for 2011 may well have that covered.

Old Camberwell with 7 short of a full strength senior list, limps into the city limits....... ;)

It was with great anticipation that I awaited the Werribee Districts juggernaut to roll across the river and take on Old Camberwell. So much so that I'd defiantly announced to her indoors "I'm wandering down to GBO to see what all the fuss is about, be home in time for tea my lovely".

I'll declare my hand in advance and advise that I hadn't seen either of the combatants in anger this year and I was simply going on results, associated posts on this site & Di Langton's prose.

The weather was ideal, the ground in very reasonable condition with the exception of centre wicket and the boundary pavillion side. OC's drew first blood with the correct call of the coin toss (and the advantage of a 4 goal zephyr), but WD hit the scoreboard flying with a goal in the first 30 seconds. OC replied after 5 minutes, then WD got out to a 2 goal lead before OC slotted the last 2 of the quarter. Inaccurate kicking saw WD take a 6 behind lead into the first break. This would become WD's battle for the day (It might be pertinent of me to say that the meat in Werribee must be cut magnificently as I witnessed some of the best butchery ever today). Having said that, let me say this, OC were very good in the 1st quarter and it was evident that had a game plan in place that was being adhered to at all costs. 3 or 4 defensive forwards, taking the Bees defenders to the wide open spaces of GBO, leaving maximum room for the key forward and the wingmen to utilise and utilise they did. My take was to primarily negate the run of number. 2 Also, number 15 from OC had a ripsnorter of a 1st qtr (not too mention match) as WD refused to play a defensive forward any were near him.

Quarter 2 saw OC "stick to the structures" and pile on 4 goals into the wind to zero and take a 14 point lead into the long break. OC were magnificent stopping the Bees rampant 1st quarter forwards in numbers 5 & 10 whilst reducing the impact on number 2. The biggest trend in the game for mine, was OC's tactic at the stoppages. With two behomeths 7 & 22 in that position, they would engage the WD ruckman in a wrestle of sorts and then proceed to belt the ball 5-15 metres forward at all costs, no deft tap work here, just get it forward. The longer the game went on the more effective this tactic became. Werribee didn't pick up on it either as at no time did they drop a sweeper on the defensive side of the contest.

I'd imagine the rooms at the major break would have been at polar extremes, one calm, positive and focussed, the other a maelstrom of expletives and blame. When one goes to the football, one tends to focus on the match on the oval, I like to also take a peek at the match underway in the coaches box. The home team was calm, drilled, concise in instruciton and used the interchange roations beautifully. The visitors looked disorganised, their rotations were non existent in the second half, a couple of players must've needed tweezers in the rooms afterwards, and their didn't appear to be any inventiveness or plan B. No major changes made, say for number 33, who I thought in the first half had a reasonable impact up forward, although his butchery went against him, he was then benched only to come back on in the second half as a defencder with little or no impact.

They call it the premiership quarter and whilst OC's only kicked 3 goals, they more importantly kept the top of the table Bees goalless for the second time of the day. Numbers 1, 3 & 9 were everywhere for the home side using the ball with great effect. The OC defence was again superb, strangling all opportunities for numbers 5 & 10. There was however the feeling one gets, that a team as good as WD aren't out of it until the final siren rings and that the 35 point advantage at the orange break might not be large enaough to take home the chocolates.

Would OC's be strong enough into the breeze or would WD simpy power home with the breeze. Sure enough they came, strong determined, with the majority of play in the Bees forward half. The stronger they came, the stronger OC defended, with the boundary umpire on the Balwyn road side of the ground lodging Work Cover forms for RSI as stoppage after stoppage between the wing and WD forward 50. Again this is were the OC's leviathans lived up to the stature, continual belting the ball that 15 metres forward and still no Werribee player in the dfensive position. The WD goals came every 5 minutes, surely it was too much and in the end it was. A goal on the siren flattered the boys from out west, resolute in defeat and OC's proud victors. Their position on the ladder not reflective of their output on the field.

With that I bade farewell to GBO, made the trek back to she who must be obeyed, "How did it go dear?" Well my sweet, footy was indded the winner!!

Obtuse observer your observation is correct. I think the Tiger boys thought it would just happen without having to do the hard work. Congrats to OC who worked hard all day and yes No 3 was one of the hardest working players I've seen on a footy ground. Did not stop running and we had no one who could keep up.
Just goes to prove the old addage that you must be committed 100% for a whole game every game regardless where the opposition sits on the ladder or you'll get rolled.
The score line did not do justice to the Wellers as they were in control the whole day.
Still footy's a funny game and we have this week to make amends. I'm sure some handy inclusions this week will make a world of difference.

Good win Fraser, well done, with only 7 injuries you guys should be able to push for a finals spot over the next few weeks, good luck.

OK enough of the stuffing around, its time for the real contenders to step up and announce they're ready to go. Having said that it is hard to see any serious challengers emerging to threaten Werribee or AJAX at the pointy end of the season.

Les is putting the acid on, right now in Round 11. The winning teams as listed below will form the top 5 striving for a finals berth and the rest will be making up the numbers.......

ORMOND by plenty at the Gunn
AJAX by plenty at the Park
MONASH in a tight one at Keilor
RUPO to fight off the High by not much
BEES to bounce back very very hard over Roys

Now THAT's more like it Tigers!
Well done boys, great effort today. :thumbsu:

Mazenod over Ormond at EE Gunn?
Interesting......

Old ess very good in the gale out on the runway. Blew the ashes away in the second term. Well done (apart from the brain surgeon in the Audi behind the goals ). Back to the drawing board for monash, too tall in the conditions. Too many injured too I suppose. Too many passengers.i

Surprise result at the gunn.....
