I have a feeling Morton is F/S eligible for the WCE...can anyone confirm that?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does that mean if we take him first pick in the draft, the WCE can outbid us by offering him more money?

How does the rule changes to F/S picks affect this possibility?

he is ineligible for f/s, his older bro mitch was a f/s selection but a few seasons after that they changed the amount of games from 150 to 200 in the WAFL and this made him ineligible, his older bro( by one year) was drafted last year to hawks i think.

Cheers folks - good to hear.

and if he were avialable under father son it doesnt work offering money

if rich wanted him round 1
west coast would have to match round 1

so if we were to take him with pick number 1
and west coast won the flag
west coast could match our offer and take him with their first round pick number 16

you just have to match the round

So they can swap pick 16 for pick 1...with no other cash/contract difference involved?

I thought they had to match the complete offer...not just the pick.

Mitch From West Coast actually wasn't elligiable for the F/S when he was drafted but it was revealed after the draft that the AFL stuffed up by allowing him to go to West Coast under the F/S rule.......

Apparently the reason was that his Father played for two sides in the WAFL one of which was alligned to the Eagles the other team he played for was not how-ever and he didn't play enough games with the club that has the ties with the eagles.

Was a pure stuff up buy the AFL by all reports.

Thats a proposed system. Not in reality. The Morton kid can be picked up by whoever and doesn't qualify for father/son.

Father/son system is still a 3rd round draft pick at the moment. Nothing has changed. Tom Hawkins was a 3rd rounder for Geelong.

we have already established that morton wont go father son
and was trying to explain how father son works

it is different this year
father son is still not a 3rd round selection - it can be but not if player is good enough to go first 2 rounds ( like a tom hawkins )
if carlton wanted to take a west coast father son with a round 1 pick then west coast have to match that round

if carlton wanted to take him with a round 2 pick west coast would have to match that round

they just have to match the same round as the team trying to take him
im pretty sure money cant come into it when young players sign on
when a new player signs on he can get a longer contract but no more money than pick 100 they are all on a base salary

Didn't we offer Travis Cloke $250K a year and a 3 year deal to sign with us as a draftee RR?

I was pretty sure you can bring cash and contracts into it...

Anyway, it's all academic if Cale can't be selected. :)

We offered Travis 50k in his first 2 seasons then 200k in season 3 and 4 when the maximum wage for draftees finished. Collingwood matched it so he went to them.

But that could really only occur if a kid could be drafted by two teams f/s and didnt mid which team he played for.
