Calling out the weak SANFL development clubs

100 draftees this year in the afl at our peak we would contribute 20 to 25 let's be real here that 25% what will Vic contribute with a population 4 times the size and WA with a population double. Going on those numbers Vic should put in 100 players and WA 50 players on pure calculations

Going on the population demographics we are producing what we should be ATM

But wait only 100 are being drafted

How can you possibly say for every billy bog there is an equivalent elite player that's bloody ridiculous

Take your choice participation or elite development I'd say we have a balance ATM

It's not ridiculous Because you need Billys Bogs to fill up position otherwise there would not be a game.
I will take Participation every day because the more players you have the larger the Pool of talent to spend time on improving.
by having an elite under 16 ad 18 competition in SA catering for all South Australians, we do not only increase participation but improving the talent base.
Not all will get selected but those that don't will find there way in the SANFL the AMMO's the Country leagues.
I can tell you a lot of kids in the Barossa comp will not play SANFL football. there no money and the competition sucks. (not my words) But these same kids go out of there way to play rep football for there country zones and few of those Kids are better than some kids drafted this year.
Its funny but one of the strongest country zones but bugger all of the Kids get a run on the State teams.

What amount of players do you think would be acceptable for each state to contribute to the 100 kids drafted

Vic
Wa
SA
TAS
NSW
QLD
NT
ACT

Keep in mind the amount being invested into each state by the AFL and obviously population

You dont get it. Its not about the 100 players that get drafted, its about the quality of the 100 players drafted.

But the TAC is producing such quality we should be producing none at all on that theory we are producing our fair share if you wish to take a punt on what each state should produce

Go and see the improvement of Vic kids since the TAC Cup started up. Some TAC cup clubs have better training facilities than most SANFL clubs do.
Tell me how the SA state of origin team would do against WA or Vic? Such great SANFL development right there.

Hahaha your comparing a state of 6.1 million people

Can you work out why the majority of athletes in any sport come from where there is a big population it's not rocket science

This is ridiculous you need to look at it per capita and how much each state is expected to contribute

Oh please, compare our state of origin team to past SA teams if that makes it easier for you.

hahahaha your comparing an era pre AFL before Qld and NSW played the sport and having millions invested into the states, what you dont think they are looking for QLD and NSW players, yes the TAC is a great idea for Victoria and working well with 6.1 million people yes if they want one in SA bring it on but WA will need one first with their population far greater than ours. . But logic says the better options would be NSW and QLD where 50% of the population lives and millions is being invested with increased participation rates

If the AFL want to bring in a TAC comp Im all for it, but they wont and as for putting a team in the TAC in Vic probably wont happen, its pretty tough on kids who are in the most important academic year of their lives.

You dont live in reality

I dont live in reality?
WA have put forward a plan to set up their own TAC cup style league. And as you have said, Jr development is not the SANFL clubs responsibility, so you shouldnt have a problem taking away their Jrs.

I dont see a problem with it I would encourage it, even though its a fairly pointless excersize

But without the majority of SA talent not being totally commited due to the college school system and the fact we are such a small state with limited numbers , I cant see the AFL worrying too much about it for the minimal return they will receive

Is easier for them to leave in the hands of the SANFL for public school kids let the private schools continue what they are doing the returns are solid out of the 10 private schools the public system may need tweaking but this could be the case in every state who knows

Who knows they maybe looking at those 100 kids drafted and have an idea in their head of what they expect from each state in relation to population and the amount they are investing, and what return they are getting

So maybe they are paying closer attention to Qld and NSW and will spend more time and money there as it has the best potential for serious growth where SA is clearly limited by population

Sorry, Marty, your first comment was way off. You like most of the SANFL forget about the Country Juniors and are only interested in them when they can come in and Play SANFL league.
We lose a lot of kids every year because they're not true system that works in SA, no system that lets these kids play football and still live at home in the country towns,
Yes, we get some that can afford or win a scholarship, but we are losing a lot too many.
Why can't you see that we are failing junior football in this state, the whole of South Australia, not the lucky one that live on Brighton road
but the kids that live in Tumby bay, Tintinara, Renmark, Pinnaroo, Marree. Where are those kids these days, How many Ricciuto's and Jacobs have we missed, how many no name country kids capable of Playing good SANFL are we missing?

A TAC style comp allows us to have 3-4 country teams where these kids can play regular top-tier junior football
And Don't worry about the College teams as they will be forced to come to the party. Give a kid the opportunity of playing tier 1 close to home or having to leave his home to play in the City and a lot will choice the Country.

Like I mention before I have seen country kids better than some of the kids expected to go 1st round 2018, they don't get the chance, no money, not enough education for the scholarships. or they don't want to leave home at 16.

For once think of football SA not Football SANFL.

Firstly the colleges will never come to the party it's their way or the highway it's about their college system whether is cricket football whatever it's based on the American college system of unity houses and college life and it's sold that way, which is why they charge 30k per year to attend and more to boarders

Secondly all sports face participation rates issues as kids get older for a number of reasons but social media and technology obviously the biggest, it's not 20 years ago get with the times

You can't stop progress

The best way to get more participation would clearly be invest in the schools forget comps go to where the masses are if that's what you want to achieve

Mate the Colleges will have no choice, or start giving scholarships to the next best kids,
Make a tier 1 under age competition and you give the Kids a choice. They stay in a system designed to develop kids to play better football a quicker cleaner pathway to the AFL in their eyes, or the college system. Remember we are talking Kids who want to Play AFL, The College teams will miss out. or they will adapt to the New tier 1 system and use it to better their performances.

Not all junior sports participation rates are declining. check the latest census results. it is damaging for Aussie rules football in this state.

And yes you cannot stop Progress but the SANFL are doing the best to slow it down, Progress is establishing a top-tier junior competition that encompasses the state, a competition that sloe job is to improve the standard of junior football in this state.
So that when these Kids move out of the Juniors they will improve the standard of football in the competitions they go too, be it AFL SANFL Country competitions, or the Ammo's.

Just a term for top-level football, TAC comp is classed as tier 1 for junior football, The AFL is classed as tier 1 for Adults.
My belief we need 1 tier 1 or top-level junior competition that works for all of south Australia no just a select few.

Vic colleges don't release players for TAC Cup (unless they choose to) so I don't understand the distinction.

It's only State U18s and U16s that players get released for.

Don't know much about the college system in Vic but I believe most of the top players are in the TAC system. correct me if I am wrong.
In SA the under 16 and 18 are not even regarded as a top level, players in the college system, Players playing league and reserves.
And Country kids not even bothered playing top level because of the support not there.
Make a good competition that is tier 1 and we will get an improved standard.
Kids will think about Colege, They will not play league, They will be playing for teams that represent their country areas.
And there lies the Problem, between the college system and the SANFL we lose more kids to football than we gain.
As there is only room for 1 top junior competition and it's better to have one that caters for all South Australians. not just the select few country kids and metro players.

There's no difference between SA and Vic in regards to colleges versus SANFL/TAC football.

All I am hearing is this Top Tier comp.

Do you honestly believe the AFL will implment it, its their decision if they want to run one, no one elses its their coin.

So will they implement it into SA before WA whom have a far greater population or NSW or QLD who have an even greater population

Itf the AFL want to implement it, it has nothing to do with the SANFL its THEIIR DECISION unless you are wearing a tinfoil hat

Yes with the AFL, talked to few from Vic's and there would be a strong push, as long as it not SANFL influenced. and is good for the state of football.

There's no difference between SA and Vic in regards to colleges versus SANFL/TAC football.
And yet Vic colleges release players to play a fair amount of TAC football and gives the country based players a team to play for closer to home. Believe they have change over the years and the TAC competition is the top under 18 comp in the state.

Take that tinfoil hat off, its up to the AFL its their decision no one elses and not the SANFLs

Personally, I think return on their investment is too small as they can only run an elite comp and even thats costly , they will use the SANFL and its volunteer network as it is as it is financially way more viable. They arent incompetent when it comes to money matters.

It's no different to here

If anything college football is bigger and more competitive in Victoria than SA

Heres an idea if there is any talent the AFL can recognise, pay for their scvooling at a private school it appears that teh Private schools develop their footballers better than the TAC according to this, it will be far cheaper
