Wow, this kid's a gun. I can't believe that he wasn't in the side up until an hour before the Freo match. He's entrenched in the best 22 now and forever IMO. Great skills, bold and daring - and so cool and calm under pressure.

Exactly JUBJUB. About 10 pages ago I said he would make #29 his own. And in doing so will save a bunch of people $$ on Geelong jumpers with 29 already on them....

Go Catters

Was also the emergency for the 2011 GF too dont forget.
Significant wraps on him at the club I'd say.

Watching Guthrie whenever he got the ball last night, the two words that came to mind were poise and composure. In a game where our disposal was often rushed and poor, it was very noticeable that he seemed to have more time than others, and always made good decisions with his ball use.

That's what I noticed about him from the very start. Absolutely love that quality.

His first two finals suggest that he is well on the way to becoming a legitimate star. I don't say that lightly either. Over the past six months, he's stepped up from looking like a dependable 150-200 gamer for the club (nothing to be sneezed at, mind you), to looking like he could quite easily wind up being the best player we drafted in the last five years (against Motlop, T.Hunt, Brown, Duncan, Menzel, Christensen, Vardy, Podsiadly, Smedts, Horlin-Smith, Kersten, Murdoch, Blicavs, Thurlow and everyone else). Not saying he definitely will, but I'm certainly not ruling it out either.

The rest of the league and the media hasn't cottoned on yet. He never, ever gets mentioned as one of the rising young stars of the comp. Expect the first 'Cam Guthrie is really underrated' article to come out in about 10 months or so (that's usually how long it takes for the media to cotton on to these things). An absolute gun.

Took about 2 All-Australians before they cottoned-on about Boris! ;)

On that note, the value in Guthrie being able to learn from one of the all time greats must be immense.

Or hopefully after a Norm Smith medal this year ;)

Think Dennis Cometti is on to him, has several times made comment.."really like him "

Guthrie has had a great year. At the start of the year I thought of him as a fringe player only but he has truly cemented himself in the 22 now. Showed real poise & ability in both finals which really ticked the box on his year. It's so good seeing the young blokes really step up like he has.

Yep, it's been awesome.

A good reminder too when we're critical of young guys - Brown, Murdoch, Smedts et al - Guthrie had only played 20 games at the start of the season. Now he's at 40. Been a remarkable improvement but it shows how vital those early games are.

Or, alternatively, how vital it is to be good enough to get those early games.

I agree, sometimes we expect too much out of guys who have only played 20 games or less. I guess fans are a little impatient sometimes. However I really like CS policy of only giving games to players who deserve it. That must give the young guys a lot of encouragement.
