The debate is raging about whether to take Kreuzer or Cotchin at pick 1, I can see both sides of the debate.

Could we trade to get Cameron Wood from the Lions, enabling us to take Cotchin at Pick 1 & also get a promising young ruckman as well.

Possible trade

Trade - picks 3 & 20 to Lions

for

Receive - Wood & pick 8 from Lions

For us we still have Picks 1 & 8 (cotchin & another good player)+Wood

Lions get an upgrade from pick 8 to 3 (possibly Morton)& pick 20.

No way.

Pick 20 for Wood is the maximum that I would offer, and the Lions won't take that.

We have picks 1 and 3, and unless something unbelievable is offered, we will be keeping them. We have the chance to draft 2 of the best 3 kids in the land, and we aren't going to pass up that opportunity that easily.

I would trade pick 20 for Wood, then we can pick up Cotchin at 1 and Morton at 3. That's a great option. Wood is contracted so the PSD is out of the question

Why do we need to draft a ruckman from another team? We have Cloke who should be back for round 1, Hampson, Aisake and possibly Kreuzer. Isn't that enough?
We've already made mistakes with getting ruckmen eg. Ackland, Mclaren.

I doubt he would be a mistake, has already shown great potential.

Taken at pick 18 in the 2004 draft, equivalent to Hampson but has had extra 2 years development.

I thought we might be paying overs in the deal I suggested, but I reckon the Pies would easily give up their 1st pick in this draft(pick 12-16).

Was only a suggestion if we were dead set on Cotchin at pick 1.

The other side of the coin I'm happy with Kreuzer & 1 of Morton/Palmer/Masten/or Cotchin if Tigers have a brain fade..

that is a little expensive - in reality - going on last year where richmond traded pick 9 and 40ish to freo for polak and pick 13.

i more than likely think carlton trade pick 3 for 8 and wood, or as mentioned before pick 20 and a 4th rounder for wood.

trading pick 3 is a risk though - apparently the draft is not very deep, and possibly the top 5 are a level above the next 10.

i think i would almost take pick 3 for 8 and wood. thoughts?

in saying that - take kruezer pick 1 no matter what. cotchin will be a gun also - but the only reason wood may be available is because of matthew leunburger & kruezer will be at least an equal to him IMO.

in reality carlton need a 24-8 year old ruckman - go for lade over wood. give hampson and kruezer time to develop, and will cost much less than wood

i very much doubt Brisbane will want to lose Wood and also doubt whether he will leave!!

reason being you probably need 3 good ruckman in your team to make sure everyone stays honest and wins that spot in the 22.

and also that Berger is in his 2nd year he may play backup ruckman for 50% of the season, there is a required for someone else to come in.

and Charman usually has some injuries so struggles to finish a full 22 games!

considering that Leuenberger, Charman and Wood would be the 3some that are on rotations!!

McDonald will gett the chop soon!!!

Lade has re-signed with Power for 2 more years...and he is older than 28.

Hang on to the Draft picks #1 and #3. And consider trading Fev for no less then top 8 pick and 18 to 21 years old first round type player.
For what its worth Pick #1 draft tall- greats talls a harder to find then great midfielders.

Would give up Pick 20 for Wood in a heartbeat, however that probably wouldn't be enough with several other clubs on the lookout for ruckmen.

No way, would I trade down Pick 3 for him or just about any player. Look at previous drafts. You have a much better chance of picking up a star player with Picks 1-5 than with Picks 6-10.

That's the word on this years draft, not as deep as others. Pick 3 for pick 8 could yeild a signifanctly different quality of player in a weaker draft. Have a look at previous years picks 3 & 8 and make up your own mind.

2000 Draft
Pick 3 - Alan Didak
Pick 8 - Daniel Motlop

2001 Draft
Pick 3 - Chris Judd
Pick 8 - Jimmy Bartel

2002 Draft
Pick 3 - Jarred Brennan
Pick 8 - Luke Brennan

2003 Draft
Pick 3 - Colin Sylvia
Pick 8 - Raphael Clarke

2004 Draft
Pick 3 - Ryan Griffin
Pick 8 - John Meeson

2005 Draft
Pick 3 - Xavier Ellis
Pick 8 - Jarrad Oakley-Nicolls

2006 Draft
Pick 3 - Lachlan Hansen
Pick 8 - Ben Reid

I'd rather we draft Kreuzer and Cotchin/Morton and another runner or defender at 20 than trade them for pick eight and Wood. The reason we wanted to tank wasn't just about pick one, it was about having picks one and three so we can get our hands on two elite kids. Pick eight(Hello Jarrod Oakleigh-Nicholls!) is a downgrading of pick three and pick 20 could be a valuable selection this year.

We'd want more than Wood to hand over picks 3 and 20 for pick eight.

Wood might find himself in the same situation in two years if Aisake, Kreuzer and Hampson(he beat Wood last year) surpass him. :D

Meeson would be alot cheaper.
