Just a general.question- if hawks future is so bright why have so many Hawthorn fans given up on them and stopped attending games?
32k in the wet last week against West Coast
66k on Friday night

From my view, Hawthorn supporters have always been more likely to pick and choose the games they go to. They might choose the best 6 games over the year to go to and miss the less appealing games rather than going to all 11. The number of Sunday 3.20 games this year has also had an influence

Same time, same weather - would the WC game have drawn a bigger or smaller crowd at Marvel?

Given that we got 28k at Marvel last year, probably less. Hawthorn supporters just don't go to Marvel though

Looking forward to when Hawks win another premiership in 2-3 years time and then watch all other clubs change its strategy in building a list.

They will start regularly trading first round picks for quality players that they know who can play versus drafting hit and miss youngsters. Once again all the sheep will follow the revolutionary man, the great .... the legendary angry ant!

With respect, hawks wont be winning a flag next 2-3 years

Hawthorn average one Premiership every 5 years years since 1960. I believe we are creeping up on that time frame. Think about it... Mitchell, Wingard return next year, maybe Coniglio as a free agent, Patton via trade, top 10 draft pick and an easy fixture.

The stars are aligning at Dingly.

Probably less. Soul-destroying ground. Freezing cold and has never been any good for Hawthorn attendances.

It's the main reason we started (and still) play games in Tasmania (to the disgust of the AFL). 8 x Sunday 3:20pm slots shows you how vindictive the AFL is when it doesn't get it's way.

He was passed over and was a VFL reject for a couple of years. Played for Ballarat from memory
Actually was playing up in the country played 5 games of VFl including the semi final against box hill and i remember saying to a fellow hawk supporter who the **** is this guy as he scorched us that day along with a over the hill ruckman in Hale who kicked 5 they both became hawthorn listed players

Interesting prediction. Why do you think Hawthorn's recycle and trade away first round pick strategy will build a better list than some young gun teams like the Lions for example?

In 2-3 years how is that list going to leapfrog the many teams currently ahead of them and then those expected to improve with elite young talent?

I see some once injured recycled players on Hawks list, plus a handful of okay youngsters, plus some aging players close to retirement and past their best. That's the list that's gonna win a flag in the next 3?

The week before Melbourne hosted Freo at the G in the same timeslot. 20000 fans.

35000 agains your mob isn't an abnormal attendance.

Biggest non story of the year.

Not a story to me at all. I've seen haw vs WC in Melbourne get 15k at Waverley and 22k at the G.

The game theoretically could have been played in perfect conditions and the crowd probably would've been lower. All Victorians are theatre goers when it comes to when the games are and who the opponent is, nothing to do with Hawthorn. A good WC/Haw game in Melbourne can get 50k.

It’s not just my prediction that the Hawks will be in a really good position in 2-3 years time to salute once again. Clarko and I think the same.

We are building nicely ..... you need to listen to the great man more closely than to all the BF buffoons on here.

They're basically a cult at this point.

Honestly this has to be the most pathetic line that is continually jizzed over by Hawks fans. Whenever you criticise anything the answer is always "because Clarko that's why".

The hilarious irony in this situation is that Clarko's success was built entirely on a group of core players that came from the elite part of the draft, namely guys like Hodge, Lewis, Franklin, Roughead, Rioli with Mitchell being the exception.

There is no young guys coming through nearly as talented as them. Clarko can't polish a bunch of rocks without diamonds.

But good luck with that "because Clarko"

I did indeed. You would have had pick 7 of 2017 draft if you had not traded your future 1st rounder of 2017 away in 2016 draft period in pursuit of getting O'Meara. It is one of the 7 picks you would have had that got traded away in the frenzy to get O'Meara in 2016 trade period.
This is not rocket science to work out. But happy to help those unable to work it out themselves.
Those genuinely interested in how to trace it back, can show how but the info exist to work it out yourself.
That pick went to St Kilda I'm glad Naughton is playing for them oh wait. Ah your talking about draft picks retrospectively. Let me give you some bigger misses. Picking Thorpe instead of Selwood or Dowler instead of Ryder its the way draft picks works its a lottery. There is no guarantee we would have picked Naughton as we were targetting midfielders in fact we wouldn't have picked Naughton. So the fact we missed on him is as irrelevant as us giving up pick 7
