Just heard Peter Curran on 5AA talking about their internal trial down at the Mount. Very happy with Carey and perhaps even happier with Ronnie Burns.
When it was suggested that Carey would be CHF he was dogmatic that Ayres was totally happy with Stevo at CHF and it was too big an ask for even quality players to play the hardest spot on the ground (CHF) after a year off. Carey would be at full forward with Ronnie Burns sniffing around for crumbs. He said that Carey at FF gave them something they have never had - a tall strong contested marking forward.
They were very happy with some of the efforts of players pushing hard for a spot - especially Reilly who he said has really lifted his levels.(I'd personally back that one up - he will play games this year)
Bock got a good mention, but will probably have to put a bit of weight on before he gets there. Hentschel has had a back problem for a little while now, but he seems to have thrown that off now and will probably resume full training next week. (Unbelievable that was - I watched him just kick the ball and he went down with a bad back like a sack of spuds.)
He was very complimentary about Torney as well and what he adds to the side - a quality player who receives very little media attention because of the higher profile recruits in Carey and Burns.
The bottom line is this. They will be picking close to their best side for Feb 22 as they DO want to beat the Powder!!!
Go Crows!!
