That's a very juvenile comment. I for one agree with TRD, that Bombers side did have passengers that would be exposed if the rest of the side wasn't so flawless.
Mate, im just making the point that Carlton supporters always try to have a cheap shot at bomber supporters (i.e bomberbrilliance)

Says the person who registered only a month ago. Ignorance is bliss isn't it?
LOL im pretty sure it dsnt matter how long youve been a member of the site for im pretty sure its actually your knowledge of footy that counts and anyway isnt debate a good thing and the purpose of BF.

No team can be completely flawless filled with 22 star players. Take a look at Geelong 2008: Mackie, Blake, Lonergan, Varcoe, Hunt and Prismall/Kelly/Wojcinski – these guys are average players at best made to look better than they really are in such a strong team.

Couldn't agree more with you mate! It's about time we had some more Bomber supporters backing us up. Timeisrunningout your awesome!

Exactly right man. Every great team has weak links some have more than others.

Im not bagging you man dont think that, im just getting my point across because i genuinly think Essedon was the best out of those teams liek you think about the Blues.

I was actually referring to spike mcveigh's comment on TRD.

It was uncalled for, and idiotic.

Listen mate, iv'e got nothing against you. But it just really annoys me when Carlton supporters start having a crack at Essendon in 2000. Let's face it that was an awesome year for us. Im the first one to admit that since then we have played ordinary footy. So im not personally attacking you, im attacking Carlton supporters in general.

Yeh man your right. And to Thrawn, you can bagg Essendon all you want when you have more Flags than us and i find it interesting where all the Carlton supporters were when you guyz were winning all those wooden spoons??????:thumbsu:GO THE DONS

I think the reason Geelong are so dominant at the moment is the even spread of talent. I don't agree with all those players mentioned- Mackie is on the AA short list, Blake is not a bad player, Lonergan, Kelly, Wojcinski are not bad either. So then you're looking at Varcoe who is competing I guess with players like Gamble for a spot. I'm not a huge fan of Hunt but he does a job. What I was trying to say is that you had great players like Hird, Lloyd, Fletcher etc. but then the bottom six tailed off and I think that's where Geelong would get you. Carlton had a couple of average players but they were solid in that 95 year.

In the end we're comparing 3 excellent teams so it's only going to be a minor point where you believe the difference lies. Not a lot in it.

as awesome and almost-flawless as essendon were, i think geelong of 08 would beat them. the one thing geelong has over the 2000 side is ruthless aggression; bombers didn't lose, but geelong don't even give teams a sniff.
as for the bombers having passengers though, that poster clearly doesn't remember the 2000 season. it was every player in the team that contributed to the premiership, right down to rama and solomon (19 and 20-year old years old respectively).

You would have to say Carlton of 1995 was the best team, and not just on paper.

Both essendon and geelong lost games to rival finals teams who they may/may not have met in the finals, Footscray and Collingwood respectively, so clearly the competition in the finals was a lot closer and the gap between essendon and geelong and the rest of the league not as great.

Carlton on the otherhand had all its fellow finals competitors measure, defeating every single finals team, and only lost completely meaningless games to the bottom 2 sides that season, St Kilda & Sydney. Its clear the Blues were toying with the competition that year.

Unlisted, no ones cares for your opinion. However, having read it, we know what unlisted represents.

Hmmm... interesting debate. I'm noticing some people falling into a few logical traps however:

  • Comparing the teams by looking too deeply at the player lists. Evaluating a team by the sum of its players is pretty risky considering it's based on a subjective evaluation of each respective player. I tend to look at each team as a whole and think about how that particularly team performed as a single entity. A good saying is "The total is greater than the sum of the parts", and i think this is true for each of the three teams;

  • Not putting enough consideration into the level of competition across the board in each respective year. This means asking the question "Did Carlton/Essendon/Geelong defeat a great team, who in any other year probably would have won a premiership?". This is one reason the Hawks of the 80s are so highly rated - they beat some really great teams.
In my opinion, Hawthorn of '08 are superior to their equivalents in '95 and '00 (even after allowing for the advanced modern standards of football), therefore if Geelong win the premiership I think they deserve the gong. If they lose - Essendon. I think Carlton's two crappy losses demonstrates a small weakness in their mentality compared to the Cats and Dons.
