Interesting how we will man up on their forward line. I'd like to think if we get it into our attacking 50 enough we should win comfortably, but...

Fevola - Prestigiacomo?
Waite - Clement
Kennedy - Maxwell
Koutafides - Johnson perhaps
Deluca - Now we start to look a little short

Is it worth bringing in Wakelin for safety, or will we throw Travis Cloke back for help. Hopefully our midfield steps up and we don't let them get it in there. Can't see Whitnall playing forward because their backline is sheizenhousen and we've got (statistically) the best forward line going around.

Rocca - Whitnall
Tarrant - Saddington
Didak - Lappin
Buckley - Thornton
Fraser - McLaren
T Cloke - Walker???

Thoughts?

I'd do it a little differently depending on whether Lance plays forward or not.

Without him forward:

Fevola: Clement
Waite: Maxwell
Fisher: O'Brien
Betts: Heath

Those are the 4 that are 100% likely to start on the ground and up forward.

Then, between Kennedy, Deluca and the ruckmen - whoever goes forward gets one of Presti and Wakelin on them.

If they keep the forward line relatively short, and there's no one to match up both Wakelin and Presti on, then we move one of them onto Fevola and let Clement play small instead.

So yeah, I'd omit Leon for Wakelin too.

With Whitnall up forward, I'd see it like this:

Fevola: Wakelin
Whitnall: Presti
Waite: Clement
Fisher: Maxwell
Betts: Heath

Then using O'Brien on the extra tall - He'll be giving up height, but if it's wet, then the pressure alone will probably be enough to make them drop marks.

As for their backs, there's been a lot of rumouring that Walker might get the job on Tarrant. I hope to God that he does, because I think that we'll win that matchup, but it will be interesting.

Rocca: Whitnall
Tarrant: Walker
T Cloke: Saddington
Didak: Lappin
Buckley: Thornton

That's a Whitnall down back + Fraser in the ruck scenario. If they decide to roll the dice and play Whitnall up forward, plus we push Fraser forward:

Rocca: Saddington
Tarrant: Walker
T Cloke: Thornton
Didak: Lappin
Buckley: McGrath
Fraser: McLaren/French

So my conclusion is that their backline looks like it's in for a spanking, and Whitnall being down there... Well, it'll be like giving morphine to old people - It may help make it less painful, but in the end there's no coming back from it.

By all reports, Kennedy is 6'6"? that makes him too tall for Maxwell, He struggles on the really tall ones ie, Lade last week a couple of times. We may need Wakelin, or we may say that their forwards just arent that scary? Deluca isnt great, Clement will blanket Waite, Presti is in great form. How much taller is Wakelin than O'brien?

As for up the other end, well, they are screwed if its a dryish day.

Walker on Tarrant vin?

Are they that devoid of defensive options, that they have to cover Taz with a whippet??

Can't see that happening, but if it does, we can go Pagan's paddock on Pagan's arse!!

4 cm difference plus 200 games.

I personally think Wakelin is better suited in the wet than O'Brien, however, O'Brien has concrete feet (never goes to ground, yet, never goes in the air)

When I look at those match ups on paper, EVERY SINGLE FREAKIN ONE OF THEM IS A WIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm really not exaggerating. Maybe I love our players and haven't heard of or seen lots of their players, but where's the scary matchup for the Pies???

Of course, the game is not played on paper, (as someone said here the other day,) and even if Carlton lost by 20 goals there'd still be a few Carltonettes who won their position or held their own. jeez they'd probably even kick 10 goals between them, & any goal is a good goal. BUT...

On paper & on current form that's a top 4 contender against the wooden spoon favourites. But if emotion makes Carlton play their best game of the year, I'd still expect Collingwood to put in at least a half-decent performance with the same rivalry emotion, and that would be a 4 goals plus win quite comfortably just there.

If Collingwood string together their 4 worst quarters of the year, and Carlton hit some targets, then that's how Carlton could win it. And tapdancing albino psychic monkeys might fly out of my arse.

Remember though, Carlton have the wood over us...that is the biggest concern. That is the major matchup you can't see l&c.

Collingwood v Carlton

Let Carlton worry about matchups. We shoudld play our best players in their best positions, and be hard at the ball, and the rest will work itself out.

BTW - I was suprised Morrison wasn't bought in for this game, usually opposed to Kouta last season, plus, Collingwood will know he wants to do as much he can to get out of the poo.

Morrison is unfit. He missed last week with an injury, no game fitness/form at all.
This sounds selfish but I am annoyed that Davis pulled a promising game out of his ass, otherwise Pendles would definately get a game. He's still a huge chance though IMO.

Yeah, Holland is a certainty, but yeah, as I said during the week, Davis didn't play that great a game. Let Walsh run loose and he set up a fightback did Walsh. Davis didn't kick a goal either! He is probably the second man in line for omission this week, but only Davies will be IMO. O'Brien for Wakelin in a late change as stated earlier has caused me to change my mind. I am sticking to one change!

Davis hardly played 2 minutes in our forward line, played in the centre and showed promise as a burst midfielder.

They are the hunter. They need to match up on us. The only one I’d worry about is making sure we get Holland on Stevens. He has a pretty good record on him and Stevens is one of their few prime movers. Kouta can be a danger so we need to keep an eye on him and have a couple of options depending where he plays.

Figjam, you blokes will try to drag Walker back to the square. He has been fantastic off of the half back flank this year. He is quick, skilled and tough. He is tall. You will be surprised. Could easily go with Tarrant. As for Rocca, you could play Whitnall on him. Whitnall has a better motor that Rocca. Why does Rocca blow up so easily anyway?

Complete fallacy - Rocca is just in the Robert Harvey mould of looking like he's tired after about 5 minutes of exertion.

He'll kill Whitnall if he's even firing at 70% capacity - He's got him beat for size, strength, speed and form.

As for the matchup for Kouta, given his size and his improved performance in tagging roles this season, I would have thought that Ryan Lonie was a monty to get the job while he's running through the midfield.

Don't get me wrong, I think Rocca is an awesome talent. He just seems to have a small engine on him. Maybe it's just a ploy?

As for Kouta, I think he is struggling big time? Very slow, can't jump, reactive. Father time has caught up to him in my opinion. But who knows, you can not write of champions. Much like Buckley 12 months ago. At the cross roads or end of an era. But Bucks has found a new lease of life.

Thomas has been exceptional, as has Heath Shaw. I think the kid is fantastic. He carries the weight of the family name, but has looked the goods.

As for your midfield, I think it could be the downfall. It needs some youth in there or pace. Obree, Lucuria good servants of the club but lack zip. Murphy has been a real find for us. Great in and under type.

This will be a cracker tommorrow. If we get supply forward, Fev, Waite, Kennedy, Betts, will be very dangerous. I think your backline may lack a little. Presti? how much footy is left in him? Johnson and Clement are class, but is there much other defensive options coming through the ranks down at the Lexus centre?

While Maltouse is our coach, we'll never have to worry about the backline. Maxwell got flogged last week, but he's a gun.

Anthony did a fantabulous job on Kennedy the other week in the VFL. He's our next Clemo and is probably tall enough to be better than a third tall.

Us picking and choosing whether or not we play Wakes means we're in good nick.

I think Mick Malthouse has been good to. I dont understand why he gets bagged. Your list is good. ours is developing. We will not get flogged, with our youth though we are inconsistent.

Haha! He won't be dragging himself off at cruicial moments, if that's what your inferring!! :D

Not at all pal....

Nathan Thompsons effort was ordinary to say the least.

I wonder if the Kanga's will wear the Hawthorn alternate strip this weekend?

Will be a bit of a reunion you would think? :D

Actually, maybe Laidley will be treating this game as a bit of a shopping list junket! :D Em, let me see, who can they pillage for next year?
