I do not care what his highlights are. I've seen him play already. What I want to see is what he does from here to justify not having a pick between 1 and 30 in this draft. I got to trust I will see why in the future.
I dunno it wouldn't surprise me if he averages 20 in his first season if given similar opportunities as say Dow was. Parish managed 20 and Walsh is just as physically developed as him. We are probably due to have a high end kid come on and perform earlyYou’re projecting just as much by building up what kind of specific impact Walsh will have in his few year. I think he will have a similar year to Andrew Brayshaw’s first season minus a broken jaw: mostly possession numbers in the teens (with a few bigger games) and a heap of defensive running and an emphasis on sticking to the basics. Rankine, in my view, would at worst parallel Rayner’s first year but may even surpass it.
Walsh won’t have a significant impact as an inside midfielder for at least a few seasons. He’s incredibly slight, and he’s more useful on the outside anyway. Kennedy and Setterfield will be the ones we will look to to really step up and assist Cripps, though they’re still very early in their development too.
That's only from pick 56 onwards?

We do not have a pick between 1 and 69. That is directly related to the McGovern trade. The perspective is just fine. He will either prove it was worth doing or not. I look forward to seeing the wisdom of the trade reveal itself in time. At the moment with draft on, I feeling the missing picks in round 2 and 3 more.I think what all of us tend to do is attribute more value to a pick (i.e potential) than for the player you've traded that pick for.
Id say realistic. Dow averaged 14 possessions in a depleted midfield with 7 goals. 1 of his games he collected 20 possessions. And a few 25+ games and a few goals isn’t imagination I suppose.

Walsh will most likely have a better 1st year than what Dow did this year due to the examples i gave a few posts earlier. You’re projecting just as much by building up what kind of specific impact Walsh will have in his few year. We did trade this year's 3rd rounder out last year. Not all on McGovern.
At least we didn't trade 1 for 8 and McGovern.

You don't recruit Fasolo and Mgovern if you intend to recruit Rankine.
Stop posting.....and wasting cloud space.....It is Walsh
Yes, it is just my personal concern of why the need to trade for McGovern. I was not for it as feel we got more need of mids and small forwards than talls. But, I am open to seeing what the reasons for the trade in the future. Hence I am keen to see him perform as won't be impressed if he adds nothing and we still short of needs for small forwards and mids. Would have liked some picks between 1 and 69. Lets hope McGovern performs to show why we have none after pick 1.
I am happy with Setterfield deal as it made complete sense to me as it is a mid. The tall of McGovern does not for me, just yet. It may in time, I am hoping so.And the Setterfield trade

I am. If he performs I will be real happy with him.I hope you're fair about it, FF.
I actually think he is a very good kick, despite perhaps lacking the punch of other players.
He seems to have already adapted to his limitations, which is extremely rare at his age.
Walsh weighs his kicks very well and when he does miss a target, it is still to the advantage of his teammates

No, I want more mids. I did not feel the need for another tall.I don't feel/see that in the most.
Again, we seem to be looking for more and more youth without honestly assessing the list we have.

Nah, he is the main reason. We would still have a pick in range of 25 to 30 for sure and possibly more, if we did not decide to get him instead. But the point was McGovern is just 1 part of why we have so few picks, not the main reason.
McGovern will have far more impact for us in the medium term than Setterfield.
A healthy McGovern is huge for us, both forward and back. Most importantly he will free up Charlie from double and triple teams.
I really hope so. Given we got Macreadie, Kerr, Jack Silvagni, McKay and De Konning etc etc to develop it not something I saw a great need in ahead of smaller types.A healthy McGovern is huge for us, both forward and back.
Na I agree it shouldn't be expected but I think he would be capable if he gets enough midfield time. It would be great for us to find a player like Treloar, Stephenson, McGragh, Oliver, Heppell, Selwood ect who walk in and are legitimate AFL level players in their first season.Parish had to come in and perform straight away due to Essendon’s circumstances that year, and his stats are slightly inflated due to spending more TOG than a lot of mids in their first year.
It wouldn’t surprise me either to see Walsh average 20 off a wing, but we will see. Players that come in and perform to that standard are the exception and not the rule.
