its an interesting trade scenario.
its never a good look to pull a blaine boeckhurst, down trading a high pick for a lower pick and a player who both turn out to be crap... BUT

points
19= 948
which equates to the difference between picks 4 (2034) and 15 (1112)

so from a points point of view, Carlton win if it finishes pick 5 or above. (even of the crows finish with pick 18, 1878-985=893)win
(pick 3 and pick 11, 2234-1329=905)win

so on points blues need to improve next year, but you would expect then to have to pay a premium considering;

2018 is considered a very strong draft (pick 19 this year might be equivalent to pick 12 next year?)

the blues need to push its development forward, arguably trading for mature players but taking next years draftee this year helps the rebuild. It does reduce the dry powder available to trade with next year.

The trade up suggests to me we are likely to see a total of 4 ND picks and 3 RD picks, would you think so too? BSOS is probably stamped in as our final pick, think we go a speedy pressure forward with our other ND selection.

FWIW According to the points if we finish 14th even if the Crows win the flag we come out on top.

I think its not important who wins this isolated swap. We have built a midfield when it seemed unlikely if not impossible after the last game of the season. There is the massive win. Go Blues.

Possibly evidence that Carlton are intending on trading there 2019 1st round for established talent in next years off season might aswell get Liam Stocker for free

Spot on.

Bringing in draft talent faze is over now. Most of our blocks are in place. Now time to develop, develop, develop.

Next year would have been about targeting a mature player anyway. Specific target a mature gun for our need. Get them to nominate us. Then come trade, we can only trade the assets we have... our pick 4-6 or adelaides 8-12 won't really matter.

Stocker is basically a free hit if we trade next years first for a mature age player.

Not relevant in this instance because next year’s first is probably going to move. Besides, Adelaide sucks!

The reason why I thought we would target mids in the draft (great bold move by the recruiting team with Stocker), is guys like Fisher can now play further outside the contest/spend more time forward. THAT is our XFACTOR, especially if we can get some continuity in Garlett, Pickett, Cuners

I am somewhat nervous about this trade, in what a betting man who have as a likely top 5 pick. Adelaide i see finishing top 8.
They must have rated Stocker very high.
Could back fire but i trust SOS and the team. Seeing their reactions, it looks like they are very very happy.
