So this is the second time that we have recruited someone from the same school as a Silvagni recruit.

Jack and Cunningham

Ben and Finbar

I'm not sure what it means but it's interesting.
perhaps it simply implies that SOS may have gained a deeper insight into a wider range of the potential players' attributes

I've just done a best 22 again!
Do yourself a favour and give it a go... it really showed how well we've traded and drafted
Best 22 is quite a challenge, but its the players that you cant fit in that tells the story
Happy days :D:D

Finbar probably has the worst highlights package of any drafted player I've ever seen.

I call BS for a start, but how so?

To me the thought process for the Adelaide pick swap should be focused on what type of player people think we would have taken with our 2019 first rounder had the trade not been done.

To me we would simply be taking a Stocker type to compliment Walsh, Fisher, O,brien, SPS and Dow and so we can only win by taking that player a year earlier and still having a 2019 first round pick to fill a need.

They made mention that they were friends at the time he was drafted. I just assumed that they were from the same school.

As for Finbar, you call BS that it's the worst I've seen? How would you know that? I saw it and I thought it was poor. If they couldn't find good footage of him then just don't bother. Sending out a video where he fumbles, gets beaten in contests and just shanksthe ball forward isn't helping anyone.

He got injured and didn't play much footy in front of a camera. That's fine. We don't need a video that tries to find highlights from a poor game or two.

SOS glowing in his praise of Andrew Russell.
Said he's drilled the players right between the eyes regrading their fitness and he's made an immediate improvement.

Maybe he will perform that miracle and get this team out of the bottom 4 in 2019.

Maybe we won't fade late in every quarter and maybe we'll play half decent footy in the last quarter..........

So Knightmare gave our draft a D and ranked us dead last.

He disagreed with Walsh at 1, the trade to get Stocker, BSOS, Goddard and Bugg. Seemed nonplussed on Finbar.

Bless ...

Some context for the stocker trade

This is an economic paper on draft pick valuation and how the NFL values picks.

https://poseidon01.ssrn.com/deliver...5081031067119098067010115117115020096&EXT=pdf

They basically compare the $ paid to a draft pick vs what the value they add to the team.

So a higher draft pick needs to deliver more performance to get a equilibrium with their wage vs a lower pick. This is an interesting quote:

Although the market prices of picks decline sharply initially (The Chart prices the first pick at three times the 16th pick), we find surplus value of the picks during the first round actually increases throughout most of the round: the player selected with the final pick in the first round on average produces more surplus to his team than the first pick!

The supposed worst case scenario (Carlton last and Adelaide First on the ladder) being touted in the media statistically might actually favour us based on relative output of the chosen players.

The issue with this analysis is that the $ value paid to afl draftees differs little between first picked and 30th pick

The AFL disagree's. They put out the packages not the club.

As for the highlights I didn't mind them at all, seemed to have decent pace, nice enough hands, moved the ball on quickly after a mark and used it well enough - seemed worth pick 64.

I tend to agree it wasn't a particularly strong package, but having said that we are desperate for a pressure forward and the positive aspects of O'Dwyer's game are exactly what we are looking for, namely: speed, tackling pressure and goal sense, which he showed at various points.

It's also just a highlights package. The recruiting team would have seen far more footy than that 90 second video, and it's not just what players do when they've got the ball, they'd be looking very closely at his defensive nous and effort, which is a lot of what he'd be judged on.

I'm kind of indifferent to the selection overall, however it's a very late pick which are always speculative.

I think we reached. Should have been pick 68 earliest. Must really want him.

Article on the AFL website...interesting....only 3 TAC games in two years.....although played alongside BSOS at Xavier, so looks like SOS has been checking him out while heading along to watch Ben...obviously saw something in him in the schoolboy matches.

Conspiracy theorists may even say that there may have been a reason he didn't play a lot of TAC because of 'injuries'....hmmmmmm....like Charlie's chance DUI charge only a week before the 2015 draft that saw him drop to pick 12.....hmmmmmm

"The 2018 AFL Draft was defined by an all-time crop of top end talent, and highlighted by the fact that each of the first four players taken at pick No. 1 and nobody would have batted an eyelid."

Carlton take Walsh and get a D:rolleyes:

I thought I also read somewhere he rated Stocker at Pick 13 prior to the draft in his ‘power rankings’ ???

He had him at pick 20 by Richmond on his final phantom draft from memory..

I said before the draft that if Carlton selected Walsh with pick 1, he would basically give us a low mark.
Like me in many ways, he really rates Lukosius.

The Stocker trade if I am being honest, really concerns me as well, there is a lot of potential to have egg on our face. It is certainly a case of backing ourselves in.
So many variables in the Stocker trade when deciding to make the trade.

1. Carlton finishing position - If it is bottom 3 next year, that is a high end talent we're missing out on.
2. Adelaides finishing position - If they bounce back, then our pick becomes more speculative.
3. Stocker + ? v ? We will always compare this trade in the future based on who Carlton and Adelaide select. If it was somehow possible (it is not), I would love to know who Adelaide and Carlton would have selected if they still owned each pick. Then you get a true value of the trade.

Where did he say that?
