SOS and co went to school on live trading in the NFL.

Some interesting reading that may explain the way we have gone the last 2 years.

Having all of our key positions filled helps in this regard to.

Live trading has probably come in at the right time for us as we can fill the less important positions with multiple mid range picks.

That is an excellent read! I'd love to see similar studies done on the AFL.

I suggest the effect would be even more pronounced here as we're drafting 18yos vs 22yo unofficially professional athletes in the NFL. That should lead to even more variability in AFL draftee output and therefore suggests there's even more basis for the 'more picks > early picks' phenomenon.

The other element is that the team trading up pretty much has to pay a premium of 20%+ to get the deal done. Which provides further reward (or a buffer) when you trade down the draft order.

From the moment we went on the clock for pick 9
We used 3 minutes to bid on Henry
Freo then used 4 minutes to match
We used 4 minutes to bid on green
GWS used 3 minutes to match
Then we used 5 minutes to swap
This gave us nearly 20 minutes to organise the trade of picks. Every club had 5 minutes to make decisions.
Masterful

I managed to get a copy of SOS's goodbye letter to the league.

You might need to read between the lines to understand his true message...

For Young or Stephens I had planned to trade,
Up until Sydney ruined that with an unexpected raid.
Cheekily I bid on Henry and Green as a time-wasting intervention,
Kemp now became my true draft intention.

You all thought on me this placed too much onus,
Obviously you underestimated the size of my cohones.
Up next I grabbed Philp for a free swing bonus.

Assuming no problem's with Kemp's dickey knee,
Leaving this draft I am filled with glee.
Last thing to do now is to grab Martin for free.

I found his goodbye letter

Did NOT go down so well in my house:

Better-half: Can you PLEASE stop staring at the draft and help put the kids to bed
ferris: It's almost Adelaide's pick - I need to see if we do a deal!
*Still watching 15 mins later*
Better-half: FERRIS! NOW!
ferris: We didn't do a deal, but it's our turn now. Babe, I swear Carlton will be done in 5 mins and I will help.

Narrator: Carlton were not done 5 minutes later and ferris did not help.

An old uncle calls me after the draft and says how come we didn’t get Liam Henry and Tom Green.

Tried to explain the academy and points system - I ended up confusing myself after the phone call - old uncle had no hope of understanding

:p

My missus was so bemused by my intensity she posted a pic on Facebook of me glaring at the tv thinking it was weird. My mates partners returned same.

Yeah, up to 3 senior and a spare rookie spot.
Although we may redraft DeLuca I suppose.

Nice.

Hope we make two picks today, Martin and then a rookie pick. I wouldn't take Deluca nor Webb, but I suspect the club will go with Webb. Don't see the point of Deluca, unfortunately.

It's been suggested that we were only going to take 3 picks in the draft. I assume this would likely hold, and any trade to move up the order would include #44.

Then Martin would make 39 Senior/3 Cat A before the rookie draft.

Utter brilliance Ferris. Problem is I'm not sure most will get it. Yes, I saw it straight away. Others I feel may struggle a bit. Under appreciated way of writing in my opinion. Risky but ever so rewarding. Back on topic. Under no circumstances should SOS go. Me, you and all and sundry want him to stay,

If I'm a betting man, I reckon SOS is already in contact with the Swans looking at their picks 25 (now 27) and 32 (now 34).

Our 2020 second round pick would no doubt be on offer, which could suit the Swans who would be looking to add points for access to their 2020 academy boys.

Come on SOS, one final knock out punch [emoji109][emoji51]
He would have something up his sleeve no doubt.

Can't find anything that says live trading was exclusive to the first round. Benefit of having an early 2nd rounder, however, is that clubs would've had all morning (today) to field/negotiate offers. Guarantee SOS has been on the phone to the Crows and Port this morning.

Looking to make another move

I hope it’s for Elijah Taylor or Dylan Williams.....both talent to burn....then get Cahill with (what was originally) 43

EDIT - Love what we are doing by the way, crack in!!!

Robertson plays more in his limitations so is actually less likely to turn the ball over, Philp needs to work on his kicking at speed
Most players with elite speed have these issues.
